Big announcement at 2 PM

Yes, it is.....pretty impressive watching it as it was maybe a few hundred feet overhead and 1/2 mile from the runway.
I am kind of, sort of working on bumming a ride. We'll just have to see how things evolve.
People can rap big bucks all they want, but how sweet would that be....have breakfast in Knoxville on Sunday morning, hit the airport by 11AM, then land in Cleveland at 12:15 to watch your NFL team play, then be back home in time to catch most of 60 Minutes? I try not to envy much, but I can't help it in this case.

Um, not as easy as you make it out to be TC, a least not for the sideline seats. Been there, seen that. I've always said the el primo seats in the 100 level are the last 3 rows of the lower deck. They're under cover, and you can literally knock on the floor of the 200 level owner's suites. If you were going to extend backward, you'd have to knock out the back walls, and re-do the entire 200 suite level, raising it up. The other alternative would be to drop the field playing surface as they did at Ohio State. But don't forget- the Stadium was built on a landfill, and being right next to the Lake, I'd have to wonder where the water table starts at.
One thing I really hope they address- it's my major peeve. The stadium was constructed to conserve as much of the "feel" of old Muni as possible. That meant keeping the narrow walkways behind the stands. Hello, welcome to sardine in a can city before, after the game, and during halftime. Go into any other modern NFL stadium, and those walkways are 3 or 4 times wider. I'd be willing to bet the space behind the stands in Cinci's Paul Brown is at least 150 feet wide.
It doesn't sound like they're extending backwards, it sounds like they're extending forwards. There's space on either sideline to add 5-10 rows of seating toward the field without lowering field level. As they said in the presser, they're going to put fans much closer to the action.
And they are completely redoing the 200 level suites. Those suites have been untouched since '99, they're going to "bring them into the 21st century". Even looking at the renderings, the suites seem to be much larger and lower.

Well here's my take on that notion. Again, been there seen that. I'm currently in Row 9 lower deck- if they move me any lower, I'll have a conniption fit. Know why? The field flattens out too much and you have zero perspective. My claim to fame is I was at the very first Monday Night game, when the Browns beat the Jets in old Muni, in the field level seats opposite what was to become the Dawg Pound. They always sold out last- and for a damn good reason- once the play was farther away than your side of the 30, you couldn't see squat. So they're going to fix that problem with a mega-jumbotron? Unless you're into buying $7 beers, you'd be better off staying at home and watching the game on the widescreen. As it is, even from row 9 once play gets to the other 30 yard line, it's tough to see what's going on. Yeah, from the 40 yard line in, great seats. But guess what? The mobile field level camera is on my side of the field- so when that booger decides to position himself right in front of me- it's like Deja Vu at Muni- don't have to dodge around a pole to see what's going on, just a ##### Cameraman.

& BTW here's another example of how being really close to the field isn't all it's cracked up to be. the guy that owns the wine store I frequent has season tickets field level Row 2, 50 yard line for the Bengals, about as close as you can get to the action, no? Great seats? Not exactly. The play comes to your side of the field, you can't see over the bench. There's a damn good reason why the 200 level primo owners boxes are where they are.
I'm 100% with Ballpeen on this one- I'd gladly take first row in the upper deck over the first 5 rows field level.

I see on eBay that you can pick yourself up a good little Cessna for about 15K......so if you know how to pilot it yourself, there you go!

There is a development near me called Skypark where you have your house adjacent to a small airport, and the houses have "garages" that hold small planes. Essentially you park your plane in your "garage" just like a car and you can taxi down your street which is connected to the runway of the airport. You just take off right from home.

Problem there Gip is those eggbeater Cessnas probably only have a max airspeed of 120 mph or so. Compared to those Corporate Lear Jets that can crank out Mach 0.9, they're snails of the air. Just checked- a Cessna 185 with a a cruise speed of 145 mph and a range of 750 miles will set you back a cool quarter million.
LOL we need to hijack one of those Blackbirds from the Air Force Museum for Russ- that will get him up to Cleveland in under a half hour. Now that's arriving in style.

I think you are reading more in to this than is there. Your seats aren't going to move any closer. The top rows of the endzone uppers are being pulled to add the scoreboards. To offset the loss of those seats, seats are going to be added more or less to the ends of the lower pound seats in the areas that are currently open. More or less there aren't going to be open corners anymore. Not totally closed, but seats are going in here. It's not like your seats are going to be pushed closer to the field, or instead of sitting in row 9 now, you will find yourself in row 14.

Upgraded WiFi hot zone will bring out the George Jetson homos checking their tablets all game long. God forbid they go three hours without upgrading their status on Facebook or checking the stats of their fantasy team. I think it is rude as fuck to replace one's ability to socialize with a preoccupation for you smart phone, tablet, kindle...whatever. Turn the electronics off and watch the fucking game. The ballpark, to me, is a venue where I can forget about real word bullshit.

I heard that.

Well, the Twits have to Tweet.

I guess it's a generational thing- in my book if you have to Tweet, check how your Fantasy team is doing, or text everyone you know during the game,it's pretty sad.

Well, the ADD generation has to have something to do during all the interminable TV timeouts. God forbid they engage in public discourse with their fellow human beings who have also attended the game.

The remake of that was awful and never should have been made. Beyond it not working because it was really a Cold War tale, they just did a piss poor job of everything associated with it.
The original was good. This one sucked swamp water.

I actually use timeouts to post on here.
I'll admit my nose is buried in my phone, but not for the same reasons as others my age. Yes, I do have a Twitter and I do check it frequently, but it's for sports updates (injuries, trades, scores, etc.)
The main thing I use my phone for is...reading. I just finished the Bourne Legacy as well as The Verdict by John Grisham this week, and I'm starting Washington Rules: America's Path to Permanent War by Andrew Bacevich.
I actually average a book a week, mostly nonfiction but I do enjoy a good Clancy or Ludlum novel occasionally.

I guess I have gotten either picky....or I have become ADD as I have not been reading as much as I used to. I have read some Clancy and Ludlum...and used to have no problem, but lately, like when I had this last Clancy Book (Threat Vector, I think), I had trouble getting through it. Finally I got it on CD to listen to in order to finish it.
I will still read Dan Browns books.
But the one guy whose books I can and do breeze through is my favorite author: Bernard Cornwell.
I don't know if you are an Historical Fiction fan, but he is the king of that genre in my opinion.
You may recall the Richard Sharp series (performed in a series by Sean Bean). He is currently working on his Saxon Tales series.
One of the best that he did was a trilogy on the King Arthur tale. A much more "realistic" type rendering of the legend, which I wish would be made into a series.
Give him a try.

Clancy's later books were a little tougher for me to get through. I don't know if I became disinterested or if he lost his edge in his later years. I'm a self-admitted sucker for espionage, whether it be corporate espionage like in The Firm or clandestine operations/rogue spy thrillers similar to the Bourne series or certain Clancy novels.
I've never actually delved into Historical Fiction, but I can see the appeal. I'm afraid I was never a history buff. There are large gaps in my historical knowledge, entire centuries that I know nothing about. For the time being, I satisfy my fiction urges with either present-time special ops novels or dystopian future sagas.
In grade school I read Ender's Game (not quite a dystopian future, but still enjoyable) and was so enthralled that I had to finish both the Ender and Bean series.

I don't think you would need to really know the history to enjoy Cornwell's books. Though I am somewhat of a history buff , I did not really know a thing about the era associated with Cornwell's Saxon Tales, and I knew little or nothing about the (IBerian) Peninsula War that took place during the Napoleanic wars that is the primary subject of the Richard Sharp series. Cornwell gives you some historical perspective at the ends of his novels.
