Farewell Gift for NE

That was a cheap hit and you guys know it. I guess this is going to be the new NFL, where the greatest talents just get Nancy Kerrigan'ed on the field with the cheapest, most dirties hit I've seen in a long, long time.
Anyway, I guess it's time for NFL fans around the league to rejoice while dishonestly claiming they don't root for injuries, since their poorly coached, uncreative fucktard organizations have a better chance of winning.

It was an absolute correct legal hit.....and the one that made the most sense for a DB to make.
I don't know about you....but this game is called "Tackle Football". And you tackle a guy by knocking him off his feet....so ergo
EVERY tackle should be made by knocking a guys legs out from under him. This is what Ward did....went to knock the ball carriers legs out from under him....and it is what every defensive player should do. It is the surest way to tackle somebody.
Do you really think that a 5'11 200 lb. DB should only go up high on a 6'6" 270 lb TE? If you do, you are an idiot.
It was an unfortunate break for the guy.....but it was a textbook, clinical, legal, efficient tackle.

It's sad Gronk got injured, but it was absolutely a clean hit. The NFL fines DBs for hits up high and to the head so they have no choice but to tackle low. Stop being a homer for 2 seconds and think logically..

Indeed. Because of the continued pussification of the game, look for more of these types of injuries.

I've watched the hit again, and think it was less dirty than I thought it was yesterday.
However, I just think chop blocks against people running at full speed, while borderline defenseless having been looking backwards a split second before, is a dirty hit, even if it's legal by NFL standards.
It's not a tackle. It's diving at a body part that isn't designed to bend the way diving at it makes it bend.
If you guys can't see something wrong with that, I don't know what to say. I'm not blaming your player; I'm blaming the league. It's just ridiculous to encourage that.
Yes, Gronk is a big, giant, strong dude, and he's hard to bring down with a traditional tackle. That should be an advantage for that type of player, instead of a career risk when people are allowed, wearing full pads and a rock solid helmet, to dive straight at your knee caps.
I'd rather see old school Rodney Harrison missiles at the upper body than chop blocks like that.

Ouch!!!

A "perfectly executed" chop block that is easily capable of ending someone's career. I think you guys should remember that, at the end of the day, football is a sport, not a Colosseum death match.
You do understand that the knees only bend in one direction, yes?

Blame the rules on that injury. If they didn't have all these pansy rules, Ward would've went high for the hit, not low. All the players on the pregame shows have said they would rather get hit in the head then the knees

Bullshit, DB's & LB's have hit low for YEARS and YEARS, remember Felix Wright? Yea that was a real pansy hit...

TJ Ward said the NFL fines were on his mind before he made the hit
"When they set the rule, everyone knew what was going to happen," Ward said, per The Plain Dealer. "This can happen if you have those types of situations. It's pretty much inevitable and they forced our hand with this one.
"I've been fined three times, and I don't like playing for free. If you go ask anybody in this league would they like to play for free? No. Repeat offenders, they're starting to suspend people for the year. I can't risk that. I won't risk that. And, I've got to play within the rules, point blank."

And, as has been said, Cameron and other Browns receivers were tackled very similarly but were lucky that their leg was not planted....or the hit on them was an inch higher or lower thus avoiding direct contact on the knee. It was just a matter of dumb luck for him.
Or, maybe, since he seems to constantly be injured, he doesn't know how to control his body to protect it. Ever think about that?

Ward should have slowed down (hell, maybe just watched) and let the trailing LB gently wrap his arms around Gronks waist and then slide his arms down his legs until they were wrapped together and he had to go down, of course an additional 10 to 15 yards would have been gained.
Not a NE fan, but I don't want to see anybody hurt, especially Gronk with all the injuries he has had.
That kind of injury happens because his foot happened to be planted at the time of the contact. Very unfortunate for Gronk.

The hit, by rules, wasn't illegal. It is what the NFL is forcing defenders to do.
If the roles were reversed, I would say the same thing. It's an unfortunate circumstance. The NFL is to blame. Don't hate the player, hate the game.

Obviously he's never played the game.

He had to take his leg out to stop him. He couldnt go high and get fined. He couldnt go middle and get bowled over. The ONLY way to stop the ball carrier and not get fined was to go low. He hit him right square in the thigh, not the knee. The receiver happened to have his foot planted when the force hit his leg, hence the injury. Your quarterback laid him out to get hammered, our DB hammered him in the only real place that would stop him.
It was an incredibly good play by Ward, I am very proud of him.

You sound like you wanted the trailing LB to give him a back massage. This is the NFL, not the Lingerie League.
It was a tough break for Gronk. It's easy to say Ward should've done this or that when you are watching the game on TV from a high camera angle, but the game looks totally different and is moving at lightspeed when you're on the field.

This sounds like gay fanfiction.
Maybe Gronk could have lovingly embraced Ward as well, and the three of them could have slowly, but sensually, caressed each other until a final explosion was reached.

It is not a chop block. It is a tackle. The person who was knocked down had the ball. And he was out in open field.
Do you know what a chop block is?
>>>. A chop block only applies to the interior line when a defender is engaged with a blocker, and another blocker goes down to block him below the waste.
IF Gronkowski had been an interior defensive lineman.....and IF TJ Ward were an offensive lineman and IF this action where the other player was engaged wth DL Gronkowski at his upper body and Ward hit him in the lower part of the body had taken place within the confines of the tackle box.....then it would be a chop block.
BUT, this is what we people who know what football is call a "Tackle" of a player with the ball.
Hello.

Shut the fuck up. The hit was a part of football and you're just pissed because Gronk got hurt. Seriously, go fuck yourself, you New England band wagoner bitch.
The fact that you're still on this board talking about it is sad.
