Locked The Browns Board

  • Wow, you guys are dicks. Someone across the pond decides they want to root for the Browns, and you call him snooty for responding to a dickish post? Well aston villa guy, you're a brave person to join us at this hour. Hope you know what you're getting into.

  • Thanks for joining Aston Villa guy. Certainly not a bandwagon fan. Perhaps you could point our "leadership" in the direction of a head coach/technical director? We're losing out on guys who'd rather stay assistant coaches or coach a college team which is on double, top-secret probation for the next decade than be the Cleveland head coach.

The Browns have a tradition-rich history and the most loyal (abused) fans, but the current Browns would've been relegated down to about the seventh division through the last 25 years if the NFL was European.

My dad was 13 at the time of the Browns' last NFL Championship, before there was such a thing as a Super Bowl. He never gave me a choice in the matter. I can barely go back to such disasters as "The Drive" (playoffs 1987) and "The Fumble" (playoffs 1988), which would be brilliant accomplishments and honest reasons to "wait 'til next year" compared to anything the Browns have done since returning in 1999. Now the Browns find drink-inducing ways to fuck up, not fourth quarters which could've taken them to the Super Bowl, but regular season games against joke franchises like Jacksonville.

    Welcome!

We welcome you- but be prepared for much heartache.

  • I have wanted to kill myself because of this team, are you ready for that dedication?

  • I'm glad I never mentioned I like soccer in my opening post now...

  • Imposter! I basically did the same thing a couple of years ago - Randy Lerner + new interest in NFL = Browns. UTV.

For comparison's sake, the two teams are actually very similar:

    • Very traditional/old/original teams
    • From industrial cities that have seen better days
    • Easily identifiable uniform/kit
    • Won lots originally
    • Not won much lately
    • A good group of young talent, needing some experienced heads to show them how to actually win games

Just to clarify though, Randy Lerner is not selling to Red Bull, so forget that. It was a rumour started by someone with nothing better to do. There's not much money coming in, and Grant Holt on loan is probably the best we can hope for right now unfortunately.

As I say, there are a lot of parallels between the two institutions, including the passion of the fans. Both have been so success starved that if you give them even a sniff of glory the city will explode.

  • Plus Villa Park is probably the best stadium in England

Better than the lane, that's for sure 😉 but best in England might be a push. Best looking, maybe, plus there's a decent atmosphere. But Anfield is probably better for atmosphere.

  • Anfield is terrible for atmosphere in my experience, bit of a myth that.

    Villa Park is just beautiful.

Can't disagree with that. Only really old Wembley would have given it a run for its money. For those wondering:

  • Welcome. I'm newer to these boards myself, but not a new fan. You chose a helluva NFL team to be a fan, and I mean that in a good way and bad way. Lol.

Not a soccer fan myself, and it makes no difference to me if you are or not. (Meaning I don't hate you just because you are.) I look at it this way with Lerner. He had two children, of which one was his favorite and the other he didn't pay much attention to. This made the unloved child unruly, and then at best he made some feeble attempts to try and get them out of trouble. His last straw was to send them off to military school, with Holmgren meant to be the hardassed sargent that was supposed to straighten them up. It failed and he finally gave up, disowning the unruly child that he did a shitty job of raising. And for that I say good riddance.

  • I think any new Browns fan should have to watch the drive and the fumble clockwork orange like for a couple days straight before committing to this shit franchise. Go Leeds United, FYI, havent seen a game in ages.

Old Trafford is amazing. Elen Road was the best time. Chelsea can suck a Dick. Showing my age here, is David Platt still affiliated with them. Dudes goal is still the best in World Cup history in my opinion.

Old trafford is great, but it's all modern, glass fronted and the rest. Villa Park is in the middle of the community, still with the original red brick façade.

David Platt left the villa in 1991! But yes, he's a villa fan I think so still comments on the club sometimes.

And I have watched and rewatched the fumble and the drive, and red right 88 and the rest, on their own and as part of compilations of "greatest comebacks" or "sutpidest moments" etc

Seriously? Spoken like someone who has never been off his soggy island.

Congratulations, I think it took you three posts to rip our team, our city and our country.

But Randy the pansy Lerner is great reason for supporting any sports team ... maybe you are this guy:

If so ... we'd all like to punch you.

By the way, here's a brief refresher:

  • Man, that Bradford game. Fucking ridiculous.

  • hahaha brilliant Zombo

  • Lol. I was going to comment about his trashing of California, but I've only been to LA and clearly that town does not represent the entire state.

  • LA is a cesspool. Outside is nice.
