Here is a fairly lengthy set of trivia all about the NFL's version of the Final Four.....about the games/teams/players that participate in the games leading up to the Super Bowl. This goes back to 1966....not just to 1970 when the AFC/NFC title games were initiated. Some answers can be different when taking this into account. Give a try:

    1. Which current NFC team has appeared in the most NFL "Final Fours"?

    2. Which current AFC team has appeared in the most NFL "Final Fours"?

    3. Which teams have appeared in both AFL/AFC and NFL/NFC title games?

    4. Which team has appeared in the most consecutive NFL "Final Four" games?

    5. Which teams have lost the most NFL "Final Four" games?

    6. Which team has the best winning percentage in "Final Four" games....minimum of at least 3 appearances?

    7. Which team has the worst winning percentage in "Final Four" games....minimum of at least 3 appearances?

    8. Which AFC team has the most Road Wins in "Final Four" games?

    9. Which 2 AFC teams (besides the Texans who have never been in a game) have never hosted an NFL "Final Four" game?

    10. Which 2 NFC teams have never hosted an NFL "Final Four" game?

    11. Name the starting QBs in the very first NFL Final Four, in 1966.

    12. Who was the very first African-American QB to start an NFL "Final Four" game?

    13. The only 2 seasons in which all 4 starting QBs of the NFL's Final Four went on to become Hall of Famers occurred back to back. In which seasons did this occur?

    14. There are 9 Quarterbacks that have appeared in 5 or more NFL Final Four games. Name them.

15.A. Which 2 QBs to date have won the most NFL "Final Four" games?

    B. Which 2 QBs to date have lost the most NFL Final Four games?

While you are working on those last few questions, here are some additional interesting tidbits about the NFL Final 4 QBs:

            # Caleb Hanie....yes, that Caleb Hanie was the primary QB for the Bears in their Final Four appearance in 2010.

            # Speaking of ex Browns QBs, Jake Delhomme twice started for the Panthers in "Final 4" games....and Vinny Testaverde started one for the Jets, Trent Dilfer for the Ravens.

            # The QBs that started for the Browns in Final 4 games are Bill Nelsen in 68/69 and Bernie Kosar in 86/87/89.

            # As far as I can tell, the only person to both start a Final 4 game as a QB and to be the HC of a Final 4 team is Jim Harbaugh. (started 1995 as Colts QB)

            # Jack Kemp is the only Final 4 starting QB that went on to run for President of these United States.

            # While Terry Bradshaw was the starting QB for the Steelers in the 1972 "Final 4 game" that they lost to the Dolphins, Terry Hanratty actually threw as many passes and for more yards in that game than Bradshaw did.

            # Favorite whipping boy Kordell Stewart actually started 2 Final 4 games for the Steelers.

            # Some other non-descript names of Final 4 QB starters include: Bob Lee, Michael Rae, Gary Hogeboom, Steve Fuller, Dieter Brock, Shawn King, Mark Malone, Jim Zorn Eric Kramer....not your household names.

#15 Hall of Famers....with more to come....have started NFL Final 4 games.

OK, there were some of these games that had the same deal. In the 1993 AFC Conference title game, both Montana and Dave Kreig played some....not sure who started. I believe Montana.

Check. The Ravens have never hosted an AFC title game.

9-0 Rams, Jack Youngblood played with broken leg

OK, there were some of these games that had the same deal. In the 1993 AFC Conference title game, both Montana and Dave Kreig played some....not sure who started. I believe Montana.

                        Friday Afternoon. Final Answers:

                        1. Which current NFC team has appeared in the most NFL "Final Fours"?

The Dallas Cowboys with 16. Note: however this will be the 49ers 15th appearance in the NFC title game.....and the Cowboys have only appeared in 14 of those....but the Cowboys were in those 2 "NFL Title Games" in 1966 and 1967 in which they lost to the Packers in the games that were preludes to the first 2 SBs (but technically those are not counted as NFC games)

                        2. Which current AFC team has appeared in the most NFL "Final Fours"?

The Steelers 15 games. Second in AFC is The Raiders with 11.

                        3. Which teams have appeared in both AFL/AFC and NFL/NFC title games?

The Browns and the Colts both appeared in the NFL title games in that 4 years 1966-1969 pre merger era....and they each have appeared in AFC title games. Recall the Browns lost to the Colts in the 1968 NFL title game.

The Seahawks were originally in the AFC....and appeared in an AFC title game vs. the Dolphins back in the early 80s. But then they were switched to the NFC....and have now appeared in at least a couple of NFC title games.

                        4. Which team has appeared in the most consecutive NFL "Final Four" games?

The Oakland Raiders in the mid 70s: Five times from 1973-1977. No other team has appeared in 5 consecutive league/conference title games other than the Cleveland Browns who were in 10 straight (6 if you count just NFL.)

                        5. Which teams have lost the most NFL "Final Four" games?

The 49ers and the Cowboys have each lost 8 "Final Four" games. Not sure why this question seemed so tricky.

IF the 49ers lose Sunday, they will break the tie for the most "Final 4" losses and will stand alone with 9 such losses. (But if they win, they will not tie for the most Final 4 wins....however, if the Pats win they WILL tie for the most Final 4 wins)

In the AFC the Steelers and Raiders are tied with most losses with 7 each.

                        6. Which team has the best winning percentage in "Final Four" games....minimum of at least 3 appearances?

The New York Giants are 5-0 in NFC title games. a perfect 1.000

(Bengals are also undefeated, but have only 2 wins)

                        7. Which team has the worst winning percentage in "Final Four" games....minimum of at least 3 appearances?

The Cleveland Browns are a "perfect"? 0-5 in these games losing in 68/69/86/87/89

Only other 0 fers are the Jags and Lions, but they have only been in one game each.

                        8. Which AFC team has the most Road Wins in "Final Four" games?

The New England Patriots are 3-1 on the road in AFC title games. A harbinger?

                        9. Which 2 AFC teams (besides the Texans who have never been in a game) have never hosted an NFL "Final Four" game?

                        .

The Chiefs have been in 3 games, all on the road. Two of those were AFL title games.

The Ravens have been in 4 games. All on the road. They are 2-2

                        10. Which 2 NFC teams have never hosted an NFL "Final Four" game?

                        The Panthers and the Lions

                        11. Name the starting QBs in the very first NFL Final Four, in 1966.

Packers: Bart Starr Cowboys: Don Meredith Chiefs: Len Dawson Bills: Jack Kemp

                        12. Who was the very first African-American QB to start an NFL "Final Four" game?

James Harris started the 1974 NFC title game for the LA Rams

                        13. The only 2 seasons in which all 4 starting QBs of the NFL's Final Four went on to become Hall of Famers occurred back to back. In which seasons did this occur?

                        1992: Aikman/Young/Kelly/Marino

                        1993: Aikman/Young/Kelly/Montana

(see next re years in which no HOFer played in a Final 4 game)

                        14. There are 9 Quarterbacks that have appeared in 5 or more NFL Final Four games. Name them.

                        Brady: 8 times. Montana: 7. Elway 6. Staubach 6.

                        Bradshaw/Stabler/Kelly/Favre/McNabb 5 each

15.A. Which 2 QBs to date have won the most NFL "Final Four" games?

Elway and Brady 5 each. Brady could break that tie Sunday

                        B. Which 2 QBs to date have lost the most NFL Final Four games?

                        Stabler and McNabb 4 each.

Note: For the following discussion, I am going to make a presumption that the following QBs are going to be pretty sure fire HOF QBs:

                          Brett Favre

                          Kurt Warner

                          Peyton Manning

                          Tom Brady

                          Ben Roethlisberger

                          Aaron Rodgers

                          Drew Brees

So, in the history of the NFL Final 4, 1966 to date ONLY the following season were played where a Hall of Fame QB or one of the above sure fire future HOF QBs did NOT participate:

1982 The QBs were Joe Theisman, Gary Hogeboom, David Woodley, and Richard Todd

2000 The QBs were Kerry Collins, Daunte Culpepper, Trent Dilfer, and Rich Gannon

2002 The QBs were Brad Johnson, Rich Gannon, Steve McNair, and Donovan McNabb (and note: McNair/McNabb are outside shots for HOF)

                          And that is it.

Other notables and the times they appeared in the NFLs Final Four:

                              Flacco: 3 times already

                              Roethlisberger: 4 times

Eli: just 2 times (and won SB both times)

Rodgers: only 1 time so far

                              Kaepernick: now 2 times

Marino: 3 times. He was in his first 2 years in the league and only went back 1 more time ever.

                              Brunell: 2 times

                              O'Donnell: 2 times

QBs that made the Final Four with more than one team were:

                              Kurt Warner...with Rams/Cards

                              Kerry Collins...with Panthers and Giants

                              Brett Favre...with Packers and Vikings

                              Joe Montana...with 49ers and Chiefs

Jay Schroeder...with the Redskins and the Raiders

                              Doug Williams....with Buccaneers and Redskins

Ron Jawoski....with the Rams and the Eagles

Earl Morral...with the Colts and the Dolphins

Craig Morton...with the Cowboys and Broncos

And now: Peyton Manning with the Colts and the Broncos

(note: Bernie Kosar started 3 games for Browns and though he didn't start a game, he finished a game for the Cowboys after injury to Aikman)
