It didnt matter if he played last season at all, he was a top 5 choice, barring injury. I would be cautious as hell also if only a knee injury stood between me and $20 million dollars. Its not a bad thing if a guy is motivated by money, because after hes drafted, hes gonna have to play hard for the second contract (where the real money is made).
  • I didn't like the idea of Clowney cause i didn't like the idea of a player putting himself before his team and it was obvious he wasn't playing his hardest. But then that MikeH guy said watch the unc game if you wanna see why. At around 6:05 you can clearly see the player targeted his knee on purpose and there were a couple of really low chop blocks during that game. I guess i get it after watching the unc game and the vid that Mik posted above.

we'd be Retarded not to consider this kid if he's there at 4. Just to put things in perspective...his pass rushing moves are already better than all 3 of our OLB's. Only thing Kruger does bettter is that he's stronger and bullrushes better. Give Clowney a couple years in the NFL and he'll have that too. Neither Sheard nor Mingo's hand fighting skills are at Clowneys level...and that's scary. The kid is so fluid. I almost now think we should draft him with the 1st and get another wide receiver later in the round.

    2. None of you dicks have the balls to support a trade up

i think that's because the teams perpetually at the top of the mountain have proved that they make their scratch during the later rounds. Giving away those later rounds for 1 player is not the winning strategy

  • @mike-h said:

    1. Clowney won't be available

probably, but not set in stone.

  • Clowney was doubled and triple teamed on a good deal more plays than any other defensive player in college. I fully expected his numbers to suffer for that. In the NFL, offenses can't allocate those kind of numbers to one guy on every play.

    2. None of you dicks have the balls to support a trade up

Because most of us don't see a player at 1,2 or 3 worth two pics pretty simple.

and its true no team drafts and starts 10 players. Good thinking. But unless something really fucked up happens number 4 and number 26 usually contribute pretty well, or should.

No winning teams select 10 rookies during the draft who make their roster. Try harder.

    1. We aren't a winning team.

2.I can name 10 holes in the browns roster without even trying. So if they get home runs on the first six we would be more complete than trading away the future. But realistically how many winning teams start all of their draft picks? About the same number as team's with losing records.

This. And if we did trade up to 1,2, or 3 it'd cost probably a 2nd/high 3rd maybe more. Which is a pick that could definitely make an impact.

I'm sure we don't pick all 10, but I think we package to move up in later rounds not so much to move up to 1/2/3. Or package a couple for next year.

There's definitely some much needed depth we could pick up later. I don't see why we can't have 8-10 rookies.

  • actually it would be nice to have young guys we have now and 8 more decent players gel together at about the same time...

not a likely scenario but what the hell.

  • Clowney hasn't done anything to deserve to even be mentioned in the same breath as Lawrence taylor

Jeez, calm down a second! Always so much rage from you! I was just saying there are question marks on him, not saying he sucks, not saying take anyone else, just that there are questions that need to be answered. I don't want us to take a guy that's more interested in the money and fame than the football, that might just take the money and retire in a couple of years.

sorry mate! no rage involved. just a little twiddle dee winks in here that think there is only one pub in town. either manziel or bridgewater.

the reason i say people don't understand clowney's lack of performance last year is quite simple.......

if it was NCAA basketball he'd already be in the big leagues. but since it's the NCAAF they demand you play at least how many years?

yes he had one big hit but that doesn't define this player. what defines him is that his agent and his 'group' told him to sit out the whole year w/o playing period. SO for the guy to play at all is amazing to me considering this is what happened to his team mate the year previous.

ummmmm..........let's see, know you are the #1 prospect but play every game knowing that might happen to you or just sometimes stand aside a play and say "i gotta buy my momma a house."

    what would you do?

I would buy my momma a house. NCAA rules Benefit the NCAA, not the student athletes. I would have taken damn near every play off. Or do what Lebron did and make someone take out a huge insurance policy

And I never said 10 drafted players starting. I said, clearly, 10 drafted players won't make the roster. The Browns are already the second youngest team in the NFL and you assholes want to keep turning over 21 Year old players.

You don't need 10 rookies. They will pick up 2 or 3 UDFA that stick if theyre worth a shit at evaluating takent.

So you want 13 / 53 man roster to be rookies. Youngest team in the NFL easily with that. What 13 players do you cut?

And you don't sign any FAs with 40+ million in cap stace.

SOME OF THOSE 10 PICKS ARE GOING TO BE TRADED, LIVE WITH IT.

I suspect you are right that some of those 10 picks will be traded. Contrary to what many think though I do not think it will be to move up in the top of the 1st round. I can see us doing something to move back into bottom of the 2nd or perhaps even push our #26 higher into the 1st round. Beyond that I think you will see picks traded for picks in next years draft. Farmer made a comment to that effect recently in an interview when asked about the 10 picks and the FA money. He basically said just because we have 10 picks doesn't mean we have to use them all this year. I am fine with that.

of course he wouldn't, he's a down lineman. Why would he be talked about in the same breath as LB prospect? Two totally different positions.

  • @mike-h said:

yes, but they shouldn't be traded to move up past the 4th pick, why? cause those teams are going to want next years 1st rounder plus the indy pick plus possibly other late round picks along with all newbords born in Cleveland for the next 15 months. Package some of the later picks, fine. But do what the Redskins did to get RG? no fucking way. And you're Retarded if that's what you want us to do. I think Clowneys hands down the best player in the draft but I don't want us to trade up for him let along any of the qb prospects.

  • Lol. Didn't I see somewhere that Mike H writes professionally?

    Blah blah.

uh huh, you know I'm right. And it's precisely what teams like Texas want us to do. They want to bait us to move up so that they still pick at #4 and get exactly who they want and get our indy pick. Nice FO material you are there bro.

and next years 1st rounder and blah blah blah we know how this story ends. With yet another early 1st round pick starting under center in year one and two years later selling used cars somewhere in Tennessee.

Virtually no team selects every draft pick that makes their roster. Saftey in numbers. No winning team selects 4 HOFers in one draft either, right?
