We look forward to your report on that.

I think Brock Osweiler at 6'8" is one of the tallest QBs ever in the league. Backup to Peyton in Denver.

Brock Osweiler had the strangest throwing motion in college....just awkward. But he did alright, not as much arm strength as you'd think.

Has Osweiler even ever played in a game?

no clue, he played in pre-season. Not sure if Peyton has ever had to take a crap in the middle of a game or not

Those who blindly follow the Status Quo deserve to dwell in it.

why are you so fuckin fixated on manziel?

shouldn't you just care that we have a solid draft? build the team correctly?

JF has got to be one of the biggest first round QB gambles in history. i really doubt farmer is going to stake a claim to being the first first year GM that pulls the strings on the biggest bust of all times ala ryan leaf. not saying that manziel will bust, (it's probably a better bet that he will get laid out) it's just the thought of it that has to make farmer think about other options.

so what you are saying is you won't be happy with any other pick outside of JF?

so your status quo is johnny manziel or nothing.

ladies and gentlemen: the next PoG.

  • Being taller only helps. Therefore, Manziel being less than 6' hurts him. There's no debate about it IMO.

There's a lot of other factors of course, but just because Wilson is 5'11 and good doesn't mean Manziel will be.

    I wouldn't hate Manziel, but I think there's a lot better choices @ #4.

I think Osweiller threw a few passes at the end of last years season in a garbage game against KC. Didn't really pay attention though.

  • This whole argument that qb height is directly proportional to their ability to succeed in the modern NFL is fallacious. Of course you have this massive list of six foot plus qbs dominating the last 90 plus years because that has been the standard for a very long time. Coaches and collegiate schools were rarely considering grooming shorter quarterbacks because that went against the staus quo and the established physical specifications for being a quarterback. In modern football (the past decade or so) we are slowly seeing a change in this perception and coaches/front offices/colleges are more and more beginning to groom smaller, mobile, athletic quarterbacks. The perception that height was a must to play quarterback is slowly being challenged and I guarantee in two or three decades the makeup of the league's 32 starting quarterbacks will be dramatically different. As many have said Wilson (and brees) have opened the door to smaller, more compact qbs being considered for professional football.

  • It is not fallacy.

The stats and history are good examples of it. The risk of Manziel failing is very very high. Anyone that says otherwise don't understand the game in the professional level.

Height is an advantage. There's no debate about this.

With every Wilson and Brees, the great majority of them have failed while LOOKING GREAT in college too. Also, Wilson plays in a team that has one of the BEST defense and running game in the league. There's only 1 or maybe 2 other team in the league that's almost an exact replica of Seattle…that's SF…and Carolina. When you are dealing with a top 5 pick, you better be DAMN sure the dude doesn't have a lot of question marks.

  • Here is a list of every QB drafted in the first 2 rounds who are 6' or under.

Len Dawson rd 1 pick 5 - HOF

Sid Luckman rd 1 pick 2 - HOF

YA Tittle rd 1 pick 6 - HOF

Billy Kilmer rd 1 pick 11 - 2x all pro

Paul Christman rd 2 pick 10 - 2x all pro

Mike Vick rd 1 pick 1

Drew Brees rd 2 pick 32

  • Thats one helluva hit percentage.

  • so in the last decade and 1/2 there are 3 good QBs in the NFL who have or do now start out of 32 teams?

    .093.

yeah that's one helluva a percentage.

  • Every single QB that has overcame the height disadvantage enough to prove to teams they can play in the NFL have succeeded. And the list of total QBs 6' or under isnt much longer, with a couple more HOF's in there.

yes every single QB..........THREE out of 32 teams equals a percentage of less than 1%.

People want to draft Aaron Murray in the mid rounds, tell me what he measured in at.

I like Murray, but there's a difference between #4 overall and 4th round.

Smaller QBs sure can be successful, but it certainly doesn't help.

    What?]
  • I am more concerned with JF's frame than height. He is a weasel. Which, if you protect him enough wouldn't be so bad if he didn't run around the field as much as possible.

Like Wilson he has the hand size to play in cold weather and overcome his height.

  • Yep. Anderson and Weeden really showed how the tall QB can perform.

    Oh, and Jason Campbell.

    Most scouts disagree with you.

that's about the stupidest thing i've read on this thread. it's not our fault as fans that multiple FOs couldn't find a QB that could play since '99 is it? couch was the best out of all the guys we have had since then but got beat up so bad playing for the browns it ended his career.

the only 2 things about wilson and manziel that are comparable is height and hand-size.

wilson is no spoiled frat boy who grew up with a golden spoon in his mouth and is humble. so wilson>manziel.

wilson is very controlled in his game. i don't consider him a read option QB first. when they do run those plays they are few and well planned. when wilson scrambles he goes towards the sidelines to get the first down with a line of sight on all opponents, manziel will scramble around like a monkey, turn it into the middle of the field where in the NFL he will get killed. so once again wilson>manziel.

wilson has won a super bowl surrounded by a great supporting cast on both sides of the ball. manziel hasn't even played one game. manziel is going to end up on a team that is still building or is horrific on one side of the ball.

    wilson>manziel.

    there's your comparison.

I think every scout agrees that height gives you an advantage at QB.

Manziel may be good enough to overcome the small height like Wilson, but being tall is an advantage. If Bortles wasn't 6'5 we wouldn't be talking about him in the first round.

I disagree. If you look at the data provided its proven not true. If we draft Manziel and he fails I guarantee when its all said and done nobody will look back and say well, he was just too short. Being bigger helps when taking the hits, usually bigger guys have stronger arms and bigger hands. Thats it.
