Sure Hoyer could "Groom". Meaning a veteran guy showing a rookie the ropes. Full out competition in camp though.

Fuck the ropes, show him the bench.
Joe Montana wouldn't give Steve Young the time of day, and he turned out OK. Fuck grooming. Unless you want to bring in Rex Grossman as a third stringer and let him "groom". Grooming is for coaches and washed up hasbeens. ... Not for competive guys who want to start in their own right.

hoyer hasn't played enough himself to groom anyone. that'd have to been done by one of the coaches or a vet we bring in.
i'm just wondering now that you mention that, what we are going to do with weeden and campbell. maybe they are going to try and throw weeden in some type of trade package come draft day. i know he's got money due him but i would cut him out like a cancerous tumor.

Hoyer would make an excellent groom for a new QB even if he wasn't that great on the field. The things he has been taught in his years in the NFL would be very valuable. Whether he has started a lot of games or not he is a vet. Hell plenty of QB coaches exist that groom QB's and never started a game in the NFL.

I like option C, use the 4 pick on whoever they deem the best QB in this draft class, and let Hoyer groom him.

I like option D, pick the best athlete on the board at 4 and if it is not a QB get a QB later when the value of the pick matches the talent of the player. Very few people agree but this is one of the best drafts ever to trade down in. If Clowney falls and we could trade to 6 with Atlanta (to get CLowney) and then 8 with Minnesota (to pick up a QB) we could likely pick 3 times in the first round and get starters on every pick. We would likely still have 1 or 2 2nd rounders left after that.
-
QBs will communicate and help each other. But at the end of the day, Hoyer wants the coaches, fans, and league to think he's the best man for the job.
If Hoyer came into camp with the mentality: I'm just going to give everything to help this new guy succeed. I'd be a little worried, from everything he said so far it seems Hoyers mentality is that he wants to be the guy - not groom the guy.
It's not like Hoyer needs to teach the dude anything. Both learning a new system so compare notes - be the best you can be on the field.
-
It seems Pettine has already thrown his weight behind Hoyer and not the back up QBs. I look for the #4 going for a non QB and a back up QB being drafted later and a free agency pick up.
There is a non exclusive franchise tag that could be used on a player that could result in 2 first round picks from a team claiming the player. Ward may be a good candidate for that scenario and could give the Browns extra 1st round choices in the 2 drafts after this one with the plan to get a high draft QB in the future.
Excerpt:
Non-exclusive means that the player is allowed to negotiate with other teams. If he receives an offer, his original club has seven days to match. If it doesn’t, it is entitled two first-round draft picks from the club that made the offer. If the player doesn’t receive an offer and is unable to reach an agreement on a long-term deal with his original team, he would receive a guaranteed one-year contract worth no less than the average of the top five salaries at the player’s position.

To everyone who says Retarded shit like "he did it against the best competition": so did Tim Tebow, Greg McIlroy, Tim Couch and a whole host of players who will never have an NFL career worth a shit. One day (and it may be decades down the road) all you 'competition' mongoloids will realize that NCAA football and the NFL are as far apart as professional bowling and occupational glass-blowing.
Manziel has a lot of qualities to get exited about (passion, determination, confidence, big play ability) but except for hand-size, Teddy Twatwater is superior in every way. Its like comparing Watkins to Evans. Sure, Evans has a few more inches, but in every other respect Watkins is the better prospect by a country mile.
I like Manziel's determination, I like who he is, his character in the face of ridiculous claims and concerns. Manziel won't be a flop/mediocre because of trumped up "character concerns". Furthermore, everyone (including 7'12", 460 lb. QBs) in the NFL is an injury risk. All that said, I will have my doubts about JCFs ability to translate to the NFL until he shuts me up by proving me wrong. If he ends up wearing a Browns jersey, I pray that he proves me wrong and delivers my beloved Brownies to the playoffs at least. Hopefully he'll learn that running for the endzone after spending .9 seconds looking for a receiver isn't the way to win in the big-boy's league.

sure if you wanna throw screens all day. he's not going to out-jump evans in the corner of the end zone or down the sidelines. the commentators during the combine stated how he blocks out the defender using his big frame, not letting the CB or whoever get in front of them.
hell, he made johnny manziel look good on all those ducks he threw downfield. he was catching everything in his combine drills catching the ball with his hands 3 inches off the ground. when have we ever had a receiver in recent years that can do that?
i would compare evans to all the good tall receivers in the league, whereas sammy is shorter and would be a tweener in the slot. haden would eat him up.

I think we are going to go with Hoyer, trade down in round 1 just a few slots and pick up a 2nd rounder, and trade our 3rd to the Skins to pick up Cousins....our hedge agaist going with Hoyer.
-
I can actually see us sticking with Hoyer for a year, trading our second 1 for a first rounder in next year's draft, and making a play at one of the QBs there. If Hoyer works out, great, if not we can look to trade up for Mariota or Winston (and I'm sure there are a few more that decided not to declare this year).

I have a hard time believing Manziel is over 200 lbs. He's a freaking stick! Not saying he needs to be a body builder, but has twigs for arms.
I don't know if he can take the hits. Get some meat on them bones!

Whether you believe it or not doesn't count for much - he was weighed in officially at 207lb at the combine. Not huge, but not exactly an ounce over 200lb. Besides, his weight is actually decent relative to his body size - if he were 6'2 and weight 207lb, not 5'11, then yeah you'd have concerns. Like Bridgwater for example.

I doubt they lied at the Combine.....

What the fuck are you even saying?
Manziel has a better frame than Bridgewater, Murray, McCarron, and many other QB's in the this draft.
What does every Browns fan have this creepy obsession that all QB's must at least be 230 and 6'4?
what the fuck is with you homos having so much man love for people.
Shit i didn't know it was combine stats. What the fuck ever. From his pics, he looks like a child. All I stated was i'm not sure he could take the hits from the men in the nfl.
You fruit cakes are so damn sensitive when it comes to your lover boys.

Someone tell me Hoyers height weight and hand size.
About 215lb and 9.5" hand size.
-
As long as the names of QBs are being thrown around, how about Mark Sanchez? He throws pretty spirals. Not much can be said for his receiver choices though except Mark throws the prettiest interceptions in the NFL.

-
so basically what some of you guys are saying is Manziel is an inch of height and 8 pounds from being an NFL QB?
LOL....yea hes smallish but a lot of smaller QB have done well.I cant wait till he proves all his naysayers wrong
with the rules being as they are and the late and viscious hits being taken out its the best time ever for him to arrive.
Some people just don't get it
