BEREA, Ohio – The Cleveland Browns on Wednesday released quarterback Brandon Weeden
. General Manager Ray Farmer made the announcement.
Farmer released the following statement:
“First and foremost, the Browns would like to thank Brandon and his agent for being true professionals. The circumstances in which he found himself were not easy for him or the team. After discussions with Brandon and his agent, we’d like to give him the ability to pursue other opportunities.”From the Browns official website.

With Josh McCown signed by Tampa Bay, Weeden may in fact be the to FA QB out there.
Vick?
Freeman
By the way Kevin Kolb has been released and is a FA. Any interest?

What do we save by this? Are we also going to release Campbell?
Got rid of another guy that didn't want to be here.

Colt McCoy may actually be the best FA QB on the market. I'd take a Hoyer/McCoy/Carr trio and cut Weeden and Campbell.

And now those are still perhaps the two biggest holes we have to fill.

Edited:
ESPN Free Agent Draft Tracker lists 21 available FA QBs as of right now. Here are 31.8%% of those available:
Luke McCown
Derek Anderson
Colt McCoy
Brady Quinn
Seneca Wallace
Brandon Weeden
Jason Campbell
And we are a team that could desperately use a veteran backup QB.
Are we really going to keep Jason Campbell.
NO
And Oh yea, ESPNs #1 best FA QB: Bernie Kosar's buddy, Kellen Clemens.
(that right there gives me pause to wonder about Polian. I never really had before, but now? I am not so sure. Senility maybe?)

The other FA QBs out there are these beauties:
Mike Vick
Matt Flynn
Tavaris Jackson
Jimmy Clausen
Josh Freeman
David Garrard
Rex Grossman
Matt Hasselbeck
Kevin Kolb
Dan Orlovsky
Curtis Painter
Rusty Smith
Charlie Whitehurst.

Campbell's gone too...
The #Browns have released QB Jason Campbell, the team announced Wednesday. (@Browns)

Jason Campbell also gone

Making room for Schaub is my guess

Later Weeds, you will soon be forgotten.

I doubt that they are making room for Tavaris Jackson. But, I don't know about Schaub.

I'd take Kolb or Vick. Not sure how Vick would fit into Shanny's offense though...his running days are long behind him.

i totally agree with the schaub theory which we talked about early this morning in another thread. the question is now WILL IT BE SCHAUB or freeman or mccown.
freeman was a real high pick in his draft class has has the ginormous frame bigger than bortles. i think he got bombarded as a rookie ala tim couch and could be STILL a very good QB.
was impressed with mccown last year with his stint in chicago but he has since signed with tampa bay.
schaub had a great team around him and still dumbed it up with his bad decisions.
i'd rather have freeman as he is considered by me to still be a rookie. and the team he started on wasn't as good as the browns.
but this also brings into question whether or not the FO goes QB within the first 2-3 picks or waits for a guy in a later round?
