  • As long as the price is right, I say don't hate it should he come to play for the Browns.

Question is, what is the right price?

  • FWIW, apparently Ray Farmer always confirms when a FA is visiting, but wouldn't confirm this story.

  • The word is that he is coming in today. http://cleveland.cbslocal.com/2014/03/12/report-rb-ben-tate-visiting-browns/#.UyGjow50qs0.twitter

And STARTING QUARTERBACK (I think we can safely say that now) Brian Hoyer is recruiting slot receiver Edelman from the Pats. http://www.dawgsbynature.com/2014/3/13/5503980/cleveland-browns-free-agency-live-blog-day-3-rumors-signings-and-more

  • If we did sign Tate and Edelman we have our starting RB and slot receiver ....add in our starting ILB and Safety already signed where do we go with first 3 rounds in the draft ....

Do we trade out of 4 and look to go shut down corner opposite Haden...do we take an O lineman to play right tackle ...... do we still take Watkins to give us a great WR threat ( Gordon, Edelman, Watkins ) or do we take the QB at 4 ?

  • The guy that got 4.3 YPC last year? 771 total yds in 14 games?

If you don't understand the NFL it's probably best to keep your mouth shut.

He backs up an All Pro. 771 yards ... 7 starts. 25 years old with 4.7 career ypc.

When is the last time we had a starter average 4.3 - 4.7?

You say 4.3 like its a bad thing.

    Z

  • 4.3 ypc will get you over 10 yards on 3 downs. Good enough. Tate would be a solid fit, barring injuries, but I suspect he'd be paid more than a 3rd/4th round rookie who could give the same production.

Edelman would not solve our need for a #2 WR. He would be the guy replacing Davone Bess in the slot (rather than Hawkins whom the Bengals would match).

So, that need would still be there, and with Watkins talent you would never want to take him out of consideration.

And getting Tate would still not satisfy our need for a RB, imo. I would still go for a Carlos Hyde in round 3 if he were there...or someone else.

And we still could use an ILB....even if they sign Moats. If CJ Mosley/Shazier were there I think they have to be considered.

Plus they would still need an OG.......David Yankey is my man.

    And a QB.....still.

    And maybe a #2 CB.

So, to me, signing those guys helps, but we still need players at those positions.

I believe if we sign Tate and Edelman you are looking at OT at 4 (or a trade down to 5 or 6) and a CB at 26 if a stud is left. 2nd through 3rd will net a number 2 WR and OLB and a QB. 4th will add a rookie RB. That's my story and I am sticking to it lol.

I honestly don't see those signings effecting what we do at #4. They will have more of an impact on what we do with the second through fourth round picks. I still see them targeting ILB in the third round, even if they do sign Moats, and I like Christian Jones in that part of the draft. Shutdown corner #2 will also problem come in this range, though maybe even with the second first round pick, and I still think the Browns will pick up another RB in the 3rd or 4th round.

Remember that Pettine said he wanted to overpopulate key positions with a lot of talent so that the 1st string guys realize there is another talented guy right behind him waiting for his chance to play.

  • I think we should look at the Eagles Bryce Brown.

  • it all depends on who the FO has on their big board #4. could be one of the QBs, mack, watkins or a trade down.

still like evans more than watkins and we move down to the 8-10 spot we can get him plus another pick to use to move up and get their next guy where ever that might be.

  • Tate was banged up last season. First time ever for him if I remember correctly. He's a stud and definitely a starting running back. Him and Lewis would be a great 1 - 2 punch. Not sure I like the Edelman take as Watkins is ours for the taking at #4

You're right I just don't understand the NFL. It's probably best to keep your mouth shut when you say things like, "Looks like the Bungles won't match the offer on Hawkins". Because, like you said, shut up if you don't know what you're talking about.

I don't really like Tate, just not a huge fan. That can change. That's all.

  • Reporting news is different than giving an opinion, Ccunt.

Your opinion on Tate is duly noted.

Edleman would play the slot. Watkins would play on the outside at # 2. Would be a lot of weapons.

Yup. Just have to hope Hoyer is the guy to get the ball to them.

Draft a CB with that second pick in the first. Holes start to fill and the team starts to take some decent shape.

  • Getting Edelman means Watkins is out of the equation imo.
