  • if you could put the attributes of bortles, manziel and bridgewater together in a QB then were talking a #4 guy (hell trade up).

i think some teams are willing to forego the risk and pray for reward because they need a qb TO START DAY ONE. they are that desparate.

    i don't believe we're that desperate.

well, we'll find out in a little over 3 weeks.

    tick tock.

    Who's that desperate?

    Oakland got Shuab.

    Jacksonville resign Henne.

    We got Hoyer.

Houston will got JC and they can get a number of good QB pick in the first pick of round 2.

There's also 2 QB that might be in the market when the draft get closer.

    It's about winning SuperBowl.

Majority of Superbowls are won by tall pocket passers.

Take this Super Bowl for example.

he made the plays when he had to, to extend the drives, but i'll agree the seahawks defense won that game.

but we all already know THAT DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS.

you do realize that the majority of QB's you just named won the Superbowl while also having a Top 5 defense right ?

Not saying "defense wins championships" is any more valid as "you have to have an elite qb" but come on man ...

  • @walterwhite said:

Aaron Rogers and Ben Roethlisberger aren't statues at all.

Brady and Manning are but also extremely accurate.

I'm just tired of this obsession you have to be 6'4 with a laser rocket arm to win football games

    wait for it.........

dude. 75% of the guys you just named are/were statuesque pocket passers.

Russell Wilson broke Peyton Manning's record for TD's as a rookie and has a been a top 10 rated QB his first 2 years in the league.

He made crucial throws early on and got Seattle to the Super Bowl.

To say he didn't "win Jack diddly" makes me think you live in the backwoods of Alabama and don't watch the NFL.

Russell Wilson will get paid, and get paid big time. He's a top 10 NFL QB

again, like I said, it is a matter of the odds. Who was the last guy under 6' to win a championship? Probably like Bobby Layne.

If the Browns get JFM...I will be all for him. I am neither pro nor con on him right now. I am only looking at the statistics, at the odds.

At 5' 11" the odds are never in your favor.

  • @walterwhite said:

They're is no "winning" formula to win a Super Bowl but havung an elite QB increases your chances 10 fold, just like having a great defense helps.

And Toxic - Statue QB's are becoming a thing of the past with the speed of defenses and evolution of the NFL.

Cam Newton, Colin Kaepernick, Russell Wilson, Nick Foles, Ryan Tannehill, are prime examples.

Even Young, Staubach, Marino, McNabb, Tarkenton, Zorn, Vick, Cunningham, and Moon had mobility son!

It's time you get on the Manziel bandwagon toxic!!!!

How about a new adage...which really applies: to win a championship you need a great defense and a great QB.

That pretty much is the case through history. The dynasties had both: 40s Bears, Luckman and the Monsters of the Midway.

50s Browns, OG and his super defense.

60 Packers, Bart Starr and numerous HOFers on defense

70s Steelers, Bradshaw and the Steel Curtain

80s 49ers Joe Montana and one of the leagues best defenses led by Ronnie Lott.

90s Cowboys Aikman and that defense.

Even the 2000s Pats had Brady and an outstanding defense.

Maybe Wilson and the Seahawks defense will be the badass bitches of the 2010s?

    Aaron Rogers

Packers defense ranked fifth in yards allowed and finished second in least amount of points allowed (240, second best in team history), sacks (47), and interceptions (24) in 2010-11.

    Ben Roethlisberger

2005-06 steelers ranked FOURTH in yards allowed and finished THIRD in points allowed

2008-09 steelers ranked FIRST in yards allowed and finished FIRST in points allowed

Eli + Peyton Manning (Exceptions?) - Although the Giants defense was in the top half, maybe top 10

    Tom Brady

2001 pats 6th in points allowed

2003 pats 1st in points allowed

2004 pats 3rd in points allowed

    Drew Brees

Saints 3rd in interceptions, 5th in fumbles recovered (Turnovers can win too?)

    Brett Favre

Packers #1 in points allowed the year he won.

    Joe Flacco

I personally believe Joe Flacco's are not terribly hard to come by. He had an elite team around him on both sides of the ball.

I just wanted to point out how ignorant you are. Not discrediting any of those QBs because they were/are all good-great, but usually the teams that win have a top 10 defense (quite a few are top 5). Even in the "modern era" of the NFL.

But forget logic, Johnny Football is all we need, right?

i don't hate manziel, i just like the thought of a couple of other guys at 4 besides him (and neither are QBs).

this whole QB ranking is going to get twisted up and down on that thursday night. mettenberger is moving up, carr is looking good, bridgewater is up and down...........where they fall or rise to nobody knows.

    UPDATE: Wednesday, April 16. 10:09 a.m. ET

Busted Coverage's Joe Kinsey reports one of their readers has identified Manziel's mystery friend as Kyndal Kyaire, a San Diego-based model and bottle service attendant at Fluxx Nightclub.

We can't verify this claim yet, but it looks convincing.

    ---End of Update---

Call the Pentagon, the Mystery Team and dig up J. Edgar Hoover. There are happenings afoot in need of serious investigation.

Namely, there is an unknown female associating with Johnny Manziel, and our national security may be compromised if her identity is not discerned.

In other words, Johnny Manziel hung out with a shapely woman at a baseball game, and now we’re going to talk about it.

Joe Kinsey of Busted Coverage spotted the former Texas A&M quarterback attending Tuesday night’s Texas Rangers game with what some might consider a "new girlfriend."

We do not know who this woman is, but we do know that she is not Lauren Hanley, the FSU grad everyone determined was Manziel’s girlfriend earlier this year.

She’s also probably not Megan Fox, despite similarities.

Does anyone know who this woman is? And more importantly, what qualifies as a “girlfriend” or “boyfriend” for young superstars these days? You have to be seen in public together once? Or do you just have to hold the door for them at First Watch?

Johnny Manziel is many things, but predictable and patient he is not. Kids in their early 20s change it up often. Johnny is still figuring things out, and probably burning through potential love interests like NASCAR tires in the process.

Mix his stardom with the power of Tinder and it’s a small wonder Johnny Football isn’t wading through young women on stilts just to get to his car every morning.

We may never know who this young woman is to Johnny, and normally I’d say that doesn’t matter. Who cares who players date, right?

The NFL does, judging by the line of questions former UCF quarterback Blake Bortles faced at the 2014 NFL combine.

According to Will Brinson of CBS Sports, Bortles went on The Dan Patrick Show and said teams asked him about his girlfriend, Lindsey Duke.

“Nothing was really that bad, I got a couple girlfriend questions,” Bortles said. “If I had one, some awkward ... if we come to town will she be there for dinner and stuff like that.”

Well, then. Sounds sensible and pertinent to me.

For one reason or another, teams are interested in who you’re seeing and what you plan to do with them. I guess it’s important to know with whom their potential superstars are associating.

You do you, Johnny. Just be prepared for the awkward girlfriend questions that follow. They're not just coming from the media these days.

Then why couldn't that same defense, with the same coach and 85% of the same players achieve the same success with 6'2, 225 lb Tarvaris Jackson quarterbacking the team?

The 2011 Seahawks had Earl Thomas, Kam Chancellor, Richard Sherman, Brandon Browner, Malcolm Smith, K.J. Wright, Red Bryant, Chris Clemons, Brandon Mebane, Heath Farwell, and nearly all the same backups and went 7-9. The next year, they went 11-5 and won a playoff game. You're telling me Bruce Irvin is the difference?

    205 yards, 2 TDs, 0 INTs, 72% completion and a rating of 123.1.

    153 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT, 48% completion and a rating of 80.9.

Yeah, sounds like he Dilfered it, alright.

He might not have thrown for 800 yards and 12 TDs that game, but he's certainly a key reason the Seahawks have been able to turn the corner. And he's not a 6'5 pocket passer. Imagine that.

    lol.

  • I'm no professional scout, but I've watched the tape of the top 4 QBs in this class and this is the order i've put them in based on what's on the tape

    1. Teddy Twatwater

Has ridiculous short and intermediate accuracy. His deep ball needs work. Highest football IQ of the bunch, takes what the defense gives him, goes through his progressions, and picks up on blitzes. If I had to pick a QB of these four and start them in September, Teddy would be the one. He ran a pro-style offense at Louisville. His size is a bit of a concern, he could put on 10-15 lbs. But he's the same size as Matt Ryan, and no one questions him about his size.

    2. Johnny Manziel

The quickest QB, has a 6th sense at avoiding defenders. Has a low release, which doesn't help considering he's 5'11. However, shorter QBs can succeed, and we've seen that. However, Russell Wilson has a high release, which helps balance out the fact that he's 5'11 -6'0. Manziel has a great arm, and can make any throw. I feel as if his pocket presence is underrated. He can stand in the pocket and deliver an accurate throw. When plays break down, no one is better than Johnny Football at making something happen. He has the toughest mentality and in my opinion biggest will to win out of any of the four. However, if he takes as many shots as he did in college, he won't be in the league for long. He needs to avoid those.

    3. Derek Carr

Derek Carr has a beautiful arm, and can make any throw on the field. He has excellent deep ball accuracy. However, he played in a gimmicky offense with lots of screen passes. The competition wasn't as great, and he laid an egg against USC. When he;s under pressure, his mechanics fail him. He is a hard worker, but I honestly think he wont be a great QB in the NFL.

    4. Blake Bortles

Blake Bortles is the least ready of the four QBs. He'll make some great throws, then he'll make some terrible throws. What makes him so tempting to take is his size and athleticism. He has the highest ceiling of any of the QBs. He needs 2-3 years before he's ready to be thrown into the fire. If the Texans or Jaguars take him and start him right away, I don't believe he'll have much success.
