Fair point.....but, Robert and the sister Lyanna were lovers, were they not? And Rhaeger kidnapped her. I do not recall the backstory being that he had her for long enough to impregnate her and have her give birth.

Edit: actually, I have gone back and read a synopsis of the backstory....and it appears perhaps that Lyanna was "captured" a lot longer than I have thought..in fact she was taken south to Dorne. And see this:

Lyanna died in a room that smelled of "blood and roses". A fever had taken her strength. Her voice had been faint as a whisper. There was fear in her eyes, while she called for "Ned" to promise her something. When her brother gave his word, the fear left her. She smiled, and her fingers clutched his own in a tight grip. They were still holding each other as she "gave up her hold on life". Rose petals slipped from her palm, dead and black. Later, Howland Reed found Eddard still holding the corpse. Howland managed to separate the hands of the living man and the dying girl, though Eddard had no recollection of what happened after Lyanna died.[7] Shortly before her death, Lyanna extracted a promise from Ned.[10] Neither the content of the promise nor the cause of her death are currently known. Her final words were a phrase that would haunt her brother for the rest of his life:

    “ Promise me, Ned.[7]

What the promise was is unknown. Perhaps it was to save her child by Rhaegar.

  • I'm glad that King Geoffrey is dead. Hated that little prick.

Yep, it all fits. But that's the problem - it fits too nicely, which means it probably won't happen!

EVERYBODY hated that guy. I liked that there were a couple of reminders as well of what he's done, as well as him being a complete dick in general in that episode, just to remind people how happy they should be.

Actually, maybe Kim Jong-Un liked him, who knows...

Well, if you haven't read the books you may not want to read this thread since it discusses things in the three books that have not yet been filmed.

But, if you think that the death of Joffrey would be the biggest shocker of this season......you would be wrong.

  • I'm surprised they let Joffrey die so early in the season though

It's the way it goes, the story is what it is and they're following the books, generally speaking. There's so much stuff that obviously happens now that reverberates around. Tommen becomes king, meaning Cersei is back to being queen regent and Tywin stays as the hand of the king, the Tyrells have less influence than previously. Basically it's made everyone sit up and take notice, and wonder if this game of thrones is still ongoing.

  • I know what happens in the books , its just inreresting to kill off as major a player as Joffrey in episode 2. I was expecting some dany filler and maybe a bit more getting to know oberyn and seeing the purple wedding around midseason.

Well, in reality, Joffrey is killed off in the books a bit past the halfway point of Book 3. Season 3 of the show stopped after the Red Wedding....but in the book the Red Wedding took place just before Joffrey's death.

    In other words...

  • see i would think reading those books would leave you on the same level as a young stoned-out tolkien fan that plays dungeons and dragons while his mom works a second job at burger king.

my book reading days are over after reading 'the stand' in a 2 night guard duty booth.

i don't take anything that seriously, especially a fantasy based tv series. it's hard enough to keep up with who are the good guys vs. the bad, let alone all their names and past harrowing events.

dragons, kings, midgets..............it's like farmer trying to weed out the browns first pick.

Heaven forbid anyone ever actually read something, or try to get any culture in general.

  • I need a magnifying glass to read some books as they make the print as small as on the back of a medicine bottle. 😁

If it's a genuine problem, maybe an eReader of some description might be worth the $99 investment?

yeah i know chris. just because i've read my fill of books and have decided my path in life makes me devoid of culture.

you wouldn't know culture if it hit you in your soccer loving face. red coat.

Game of Thrones is essentially a combination of The Sopranos/Godfather, Shakespeare, Lord of the Rings and others combined, The Tudors, etc. It is its complexity that can both be the atttribute of it plus its downfall. So many characters and thread lines to follow make it good...and irritating at the same time. It is not so bad with the TV series. It is worse when you read it.

I have been looking for books in the Large Print section of the Library. Right now I have the large print version of Master and Commander....the Capt. Jack Aubrey series by Patrick O'Brien.

With Joeffry dead, I wonder who will become the most powerful person in Westeros?

I also want to know what happened to the hooker that Tywin sent packing and how Cersi will react in the long run.

Same person as before - Tywin Lannister is the most powerful person in Westeros. Cersei continues as queen regent, like she was until Joffrey came of age/got married, now that Tommen is king. Cersei still, though, answers to her dad.

Even before Joffrey died, Tywin Lannister was the most powerful person

You will find out soon I expect where he sent her packing off to....I will just tell you, it wasn't very far.

and how Cersi will react in the long run.

She will want to rule if not reign. That has always been her goal.
