Shooting Stars and Falling Knives: Players' Draft Stock Moves

The Browns Board

  • Some players' draft stock has moved so dramatically since the Combine.

I'm hard pressed to find a player who has risen further than Phillip Gaines (CB-Rice). When he caught my eye at the Senior Bowl and I put him on my sleeper list he was a 7th rounder per Draft Scout. By my Sleepers V2.0 after the Combine he was listed as a 5th Rounder. Now they have him as a second rounder... and I think he's still a good value there. He ain't no sleeper no more.

Obvious fallers include Teddy B. However, the biggest tumble I've seen is Yankey's (OG-Stanford) by nearly three rounds and in his case I do not know why. Anyone?

Any other major moves that have caught your eye?

I think Yankeys problem is mostly position oriented. He doesnt stand out physically, but his tape shows a helluva player. He wont make it past round 3.
  • Cyrus Kouandjio - failed medicals at the combine and has slipped from first round top half to possibly second or even third round.

If he were still there in the third round the Browns should snap him up like a gator after a marshmallow.

CBS Sports still has him ranked #31 best overall prospect.

  • Kyle Fuller of Virginia Tech. Ranked #1 in Mayock's cornerback position. Started out maybe 3-4th round pick because he had a hamstring injury but since combine his stock has risen a ton

  • on behalf of Poetic G and Walter White I feel obligated to mention the names of Johnny Manziel and David Carr in this thread. I know they have nothing to do with the thread but I thought I would beat them both to the posting.

  • I just mentioned his name in another thread so ill bring it here. Brandon Thomas, G. Was the number 3 guard on Mayocks list. His fall is due to injury (torn ACL) but its a HUGE fall nonetheless. Would be a great late round pickup for us. Rehab him up for 2015. Would likely produce much more than any healthy late round guard we could grab this or next year.

Tom Savage. Watched some of his games after seeing the rise, and was unimpressed. He has the best arm in the class, I think, but he's missing way too much else.

I still haven't given his tape a look. He did look good working out the WRs at the combine... for whatever that's worth.

Just do not get the fall. He measured very well at the combine... his 3-cone was much better than I was expecting. If he falls to the 3rd, he's a steal.
