Tour’s Terrific, Last-Minute, Mock Draft

The Browns Board
15 10 514
  • No trades, but had to include some options... you'll see why...

EDIT: Oh and I will kick anyone in the nuts that quotes this entire post only say "not bad, but..." or "sucks and so do you", etc...

    Round 1 - #4 a. Khalil Mack (OLB-Buffalo)/ b. Sammy Watkins (WR-Clemson)

I love Watkins, but Mack is my top player in this draft. So only if Mack is gone, is Sammy my guy.

Mack is THE impact LB and one of four elite players in this draft. We do not have an impact player on Defense. Plus this draft is so much deeper in WR talent than it is LB talent that it is not even close.

Watkins is THE impact WR and one of four elite players in this draft. We have an impact WR, but adding Sammy instantly makes our WR corps rival the best in the league.

    Round 1 - #26 Xavier Sua-Filo (OG-UCLA)

He might be there at our Round 2 pick, but I cant take the chance. I'm tired of making due with middling OG picks. Xavier is easily the best OG in the draft take him and set the left side for years to come.

    Round 2 - #3/35 a. Jordan Mathews (WR-Vandy)/ b. Chris Borland (ILB-Wisconsin)

Mirror our first... pick if Mack, then Mathews; if Watkins, then Borland.

Vandys Mathews is the physical WR we hoped Little was going to develop into. He should be there at the tail end of an extensive WR run thru Rnd 1 and into Rnd 2.

Borlands motor is absolutely undeniable. Taking him this early in the 2nd round is reaching some, but he is a reach worth taking. Gives us an instant upgrade over Robertson who belongs outside in a 4-3.

    Round 3 Pick 7 - Phillip Gaines (CB-Rice)

My top sleeper has awoken to the point that some boards do not have him lasting this long. This I hope my favorite CB outside of the big 3 projected for round 1 lasts this long.

I noticed him in a couple of his Rice games, but it was his performance in preparation for this year's Senior Bowl that really started turning heads. He performed well in the game to boot. Then this 6'0-190# rising prospect ran a 4.31 at the combine and showed his "NFL ready" technique in workouts.

    Round 3 Pick 19 A.J. McCarron (QB-Bama)

I just cant quit this guy and I did try. But in the end I decided Ill take studious and steady over flashy and doomed to fail all day long and twice on Draft Day or at least Draft Day #2.

The kid has a chance to be a very, very good pro QB for a very long time. Is he the guy? Dunno, but he is at minimum the guy who will back up the guy and make him better.

    Round 4 Pick 6 C.J. Fiedorowicz (TE-Iowa)

Unheralded by contrast to his brethren destined to go off the board before him, C.J. is a throwback TE that can actually block well enough to seal an edge. He can catch to boot. But here is the kicker... he's sneaky fast for a 66-265# corn-fed hunk of Hawkeye. Great addition for both 2 TE sets and

    Round 4 Pick 27 Ed Reynolds (FS-Stanford)

Kid wowed me in Stanford's losing, 2013 Rose Bowl appearance. Peaked my interest for his 2013 season and he did not disappoint. There are better ball-hawks, but not many better hitters. Hes going to be a Special Teams Demon while he awaits his starting chance. Has the size to handle new breed TEs. Played CB his rSoph year and had six picks.

    Round 5 Pick 5 Seantrel Henderson (OT-Miami)

Every draft needs at least one attempt to catch a falling knife. Here's mine. I think Seantrel is made to play in a zone scheme. He has the quicks and the fast hips to handle speed rushers and will get stronger.

Round 6 Pick 4 Tyler Larsen (C-Utah St.)

I have to admit that I have no idea where this guy is going to be taken. Ive seen as high as 4th Round and as low as 7th/UFA and that's not counting Mdiggys 2nd round rating. What I do know is he will be a steal at this pick or later. Strong, fast and agile, Tyler really upgrades our interior line depth. I would not be surprised to see him push his way past our current back-ups into an OG role.

Round 7 Pick 3 Pot luck see who is there...

    Tom Hornsey (P-Memphis) - 45.2 ypp 29/62 inside the 20.

    Senorise Perry (RB-Louisville) - 60-206# and ran a 4.40 - 40

    Karl Williams (FB-Utah) - 60-244# and ran a 4.53

Ken Bishop (DT-Northern Ill) 60-306#; 31 reps and ran 5.23

Thats it. Have fun... just over 21 hours until the real thing...

  • This is my favorite of all the mocks I have read on here. So I submit it as mine as well. Except that punter ... Spencer Lanning will only get better. And he ahs an awesome passer rating.

    Zombo

  • Not crazy about the guard at 26 either ... but,as a a whole ... good mock.

  • Thank you, Z...

We're the sane ones around here.... I like Mack, but I've been on the Watkins wagon for months- if Sammy's gone, I have no problems drafting Mack. My difference is I take a qb @ #26, and hope Sua-Filo drops to the top of the second.

Or I could see us drafting a CB @ #26, and taking the qb at the top of the second. Garrapolo or McCarron. I don't delve as deep as you, but I'd consider a RB in the third round.

  • isn't seantrel the guy that's been busted a couple of times before the combine and now comes up as flunked the drug test?

Yup... so you think he will be there later? 🙂

Did not know he was one of the drug test ten until about an hour ago...

  • We need an ILB ......but I like the draft .....I like the CB pick....Gaines is going to be good ....only pick that scares me is the QB ....too much Colt McCoy for me .....

  • I really like the TE as well, nice mock

  • Last night I had a nightmare that the Browns picked a RB with the #4 pick. And I don't mean Carlos Hyde or Tre Mason or Ka'Deem Carey. I mean like someone nobody's heard of or talked about.

I like you're mock, it made me forget that nightmare for a bit, lol. I'm right there with you with the first pick of Mack of Watkins, though I'd prefer Watkins because there is a greater need there. I think they might both be off the board but pick #4, and if that's the case, I really hope the Browns trade down. I'm going to be irritated if the Browns pick an OT here.

I like Xavier, but not at 26. I'd prefer to pick up Teddy Twatwater here or one of the CBs or a WR if we didn't address it with #4. I'd prefer we addressed guard later as there are greater positions of need IMO with better value at 26. I like the Henderson pick, too, but I think he can be had later, too, and if we are going to consider a special teamer at 7 I'd rather look at Cairo Santos or another kicker. Cundiff is serviceable but I want a guy who hits that kick against the Patriots and wins the game.

Lastly, I think we ought to pick up a RB somewhere in the middle rounds to complement Ben Tate.

  • I think its a great mock. I'm with you all the way on McCarron, can't ever put my finger on why but my gut just tells me he's gonna have a long NFL career. Love the Boreland pick as well, dude is a beast and tackles everything.

  • Thanks all... couple comments on comments...

    On a QB at 26:

I am not adverse to taking a QB in Rnd 1, but the only one worth that pick IMO is Bortles, and I do not see him being available that late.

    On RBs:

I love one in this draft... Bishop Sankey. Were he there in the 3rd, then I'd have to give him some thought. But between the Tate and Lewis' return atop our 2013 casting call survivors, I just see us as pretty well stocked at the position

I like Sankey too, seen him on an ESPN show called on the clock, Im pretty sure the Browns had him in for private workouts too

Yeah, he get grew up a Browns fan. They went to his parents' house and showed their Browns basement. It was completely decked out in Browns gear and his brother was wearing Browns gear. Needless to say I was jealous of their setup.
