3rd Round

The Browns Board
61 21 3.4k
  • Christian Kirksey

    Overview

Linebacker-fullback who won state titles in football and track as a Missouri prep. Saw limited action in 11 games in 2010, scratching six tackles, zero for loss and zero sacks. Did not play against Penn State (concussion) or Missouri in the Insight Bowl (right ankle). Stepped into the lineup in '11, starting all 13 games (first seven at weakside linebacker, final six at "Leo") -- produced 110 tackles, five for loss and a sack with two pass breakups and a forced fumble. Started all 12 at the "Leo" (played the weak side against Michigan) and totaled 95-3.5-2 with two pass breakups, two interception touchdowns and a forced fumble. Started all 13 games at "Leo" in '13 and recorded 104-5-2.5 with a pass breakup, an interception, two forced fumbles and a fumble return TD. Team captain. Did not run the 40, shuttles or 3-cone drill at the combine (right hamstring).

    Analysis

Strengths Agile and athletic. Flows to the ball when he has a clear path. Experience in space and over the slot. Has terrific personal and football character, including leadership traits. Two-time captain. Was a 21-year-old senior. Ran extremely well at his pro-day workout, recording superb sub-4.6-second 40-times and a 36-inch vertical jump.

Weaknesses Undersized -- lacks ideal length and bulk. Looks like a safety at first glance. Outmuscled at the point of attack -- gets stuck on blocks and covered up. Average eyes and instincts. Needs to be schemed free as a blitzer. Not a playmaker -- just 3.5 sacks and 9.5 TFL in three seasons. Bench-pressed 225 pounds just 16 times, second-fewest among linebackers at the combine.

    Draft Projection Rounds 4-5

Bottom Line Small-framed, athletic, finesse, run-around Will linebacker who will have to stand out on special teams to earn a reserve spot.

  • Not a fan of the pick at all... let's hope he proves is wrong. I think there wet much better players available at that spot.

What hurts even worse is that we mo longer have another 3rd, so a lot of the talent left will probably be long gone by the 4th

  • Well. Theres no replacing Gordon anyways. None of these guys would be much better while hes out than whats on the roster. Abberderis in the fourth?

  • I don't get it. Terrible grade on day-2

Mayock said it was a very good pick. Had favorable things to say about the kid. Put up decent speed numbers, and average strength numbers. But said to have good instincts. We shall see.

  • Nailed that pick in the mock!

  • If this guy doesnt produce, idk how you explain that. There were day one starters on the board. We should be sitting with our D set. Unless they plan to move someone to ILB, this is crap.

  • Kirksey will play ILB.

  • Not so hot on this one.

  • Or safety....

  • LOL did anyone just hear that clown from NFL.com say, "He believes his eyes"..... WTH does that mean!? Talking about Borland

  • Nailed that pick in the mock!

    lol... who didn't?

  • If he turns into a thumper at ILB, hats off to Farmer. I would say complete draft thus far. If not...I dont know what to say

  • not sure about that pick up but hey I am just a fan sitting at my computer watching the draft. WTF do I know 🙂

  • I hope they know something we don't about this whole Josh Gordon thing and they have a sleeper WR pick up their sleeve cause I'm giving day 2 a D grade at this point.

  • Im giving day two an F -. I want to rewind 5 hrs.

  • Be a great time to trade back in and Grab Yankey.

  • Come back into the 3rd. There's still receivers that could contribute. I wouldn't mind day 2, misus the news on Gordon.

  • Deal our bills 2015 4th rounder and we have 5 picks to work with. Yankee, Moncrief and another potential starter would be a decent recovery

  • Definitely hope they can pick up Moncrief.
