Mangini comments on players

Yeah, I'd agree about them being safe. But the comments do eliminate my slight suspicion that Mangini wouldn't like D'Qwell, which is a good thing.
The comment about Jamal Lewis definitely is the most interesting one. Not exactly sure what to make of it, but it sounds like he could serve as our short-yardage back.
But he may need to renegotiate his deal to stay with the club. Cutting that roster bonus from $4M to $2M may be enough to reserve him a spot on the roster.

Yeah, It's gonna be really fun to watch Cribbs on the defensive side of the ball this year. Mangini already mentioned he plans to utilize his talents and let him play defensive back. Mangini sees what all Browns fans have seen the last few years, a dynamic all around football player not being utilized. With Holley coming back and Cribbs adding depth to the db's, maybe we don't need to draft a corner in the first round.

Had forgotten about Holley. Gonna be fun at the early camps seeing some of these guys healthy, with new scheme, new attitude and among some new faces.

I honestly don't believe that Quinn has played enough for anybody to pass judgement on his NFL ability. I just really hope we go into camp with a solid idea as to who the starter will be, hopefully we will move DA asap.... But we wil see

Holly's a FA and it's not a one way street. They have to convince Holly that Cleveland is a better fit for him then other teams that will be offering the same money.

When did they say Cribbs'll play D???

Mangini and Daboll have said the offense will be more of a west coast style, short passing game. Doesn't sound like a good fit for Anderson. I'd say it is Quinn's job to lose. Coaches aren't going to say anyting about a player, especially a QB that might hurt his trade value.

Mangini also said that he's exchanged text messages with Willie McGinest. Mangini said a lot of good things about him but speculated that it may take some time before Willie's ready to decide whether he'll play next year.
It could have just been a fluff answer, but he seemed to imply that he'd welcome Willie back next year.

That's kind of disappointing. New era, new system ... don't see any use for McGinest except for as I brought up last year, his worth as a possible coach.

If we need a DB, some guy named Leigh Bodden is getting cut up in Detroit (good call, Phil).

Willie McGinest was our best OLB last year. He came on very strong the last half and played very well. I would love for him to come back. He is still our best run stuffing OLB and had some sacks towards the end of the year. If he DOES decide to retire, I would love him as a coach. But if he decides to keep playing, I want him back.

Who's our LB coach?? Bryan Cox is our DL coach, right?
Mangini said during his press conference that some of the remaining positions on his coaching staff will be filled by coaches in the college ranks who felt they couldn't leave their teams before signing day.
My guess is that LB coach is one of them. Last year's LB coach, Mike Haluchak, has already joined the Raiders' coaching staff.

I listened to the entire press conference and if you try to take anything from what he said it would be pure speculation.
Everything Mangini said was general and he measured his responses to every question.
He didn't say anything about the QB situation or either QB. He didn't say anything about the status of any player. He wouldn't let himself get cornered about FA, the draft or any possible trades.
All he said is we are working on things and looking at things and evaluating things.
What he did say was that the are trying to figure by position, "musts and then needs" in that order.

Here's the link where Cribbs comments about playing playing defensive back this season.

The comments about lewis are weird... maybe he is trying to push him into a trade? although who would want him?

His comments about the players were followed by "and we have to lok at our cap position also".
Everything is speculation but he's may just be saying he likes Lewis but not at his current contract of $6.4 million.
