OK, I have my candidate for most ignorant post of the decade so far. I will assume that you were not alive when the Beatles came out and were in their prime?

As one who has been alive ever since that time, I can assure unequivocally that NO phenomena that has ever occurred in society has ever been more popular than The Beatles.

than The Beatles. Nothing has come close....not in music, entertainment, sports....anything.

    By and large.

I mean I myself am an exception to the norm. Florida is kinda the South...Geographically it certainly is. You father in law (sry to hear that) feel in love because college football is everything here. With the Panthers, the NFL has gained some popularity.

Thanks. I see you are in West Columbia. He lived in Chapin, on Lake Murray. Want to buy a nice lake house? Its on the market.

  • I agree with a LOT of this article. Why is the organization trying so hard to downplay Johnny, while every other team is talking up their 1st round pick as the 2nd coming?

    http://www.bettingsports.com/browns-continue-to-be-really-weird-about-johnny-manziel/

Despite decades of futility and the strong stench of failure that generally emanates from theCleveland Browns, this team actually managed to generate some positive buzz by selecting Texas A&M superstar quarterback Johnny Manziel No. 22 overall in the 2014 NFL Draft. It’s been less than a week, but somehow the luster continues to fade with each passing day.

Not content to leave (better than) well enough alone, it seems the Browns organization has gone out of its way this week to rain on its own parade. They’re urinating in their own Wheaties. They’re collecting black flies for their own glasses of Chardonnay.

First came Haslam’s supremely unnecessary comments aimed, for some unknown reason, at putting Manziel in his place. Said Cleveland’s criminally inclined owner, “We were frank with [Manziel] on Friday that’s the expectation, you’re the backup. This is a hard-working, blue-collar town, this isn’t Hollywood. We want you to come in and go to work.”

While his message was reasonable enough, the tone and delivery were excessively harsh. There are ways to say the exact same thing without completely insulting Manziel, inferring that he’s lazy and too caught up in his own celebrity to bother showing up for work.

There's something that most probably don't understand if your not from the south. The NFL isn't really popular in the south. College football is the thing. Until 95, there was the falcons aand the redskins and I guess miami. So now, its growing in the south because we have some more teams. College stars end up leaving SEC teams and college fans follow them. Its a positive thing I think! This year I have 3 games I can get to!

I don't think that you can say that to be totally true. More of a generalization. If you consider Florida "the South", the folks in Miami and Tampa areas are more into the NFL than college football. That is also probably true for the likes of New Orleans or Atlanta, but sure, in places like S. Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, rural Georgia, northern FLa. that is certainly true. My father in law lived in SC until he passed away last year and became a big Gamecock fan when he retired down there.

I have to disagree with that..

First off geopolitically, North central Florida IS what would be considered "The South".. The rest football wise and trust me I've traveled this state extensively for long time is, far more CFA interested than the NFL.. Jax is a mix of Gator/Dawg fans. They don't particularly give a RAT'S ASS about the Jags....The panhandle is all FSU with a smattering of Buc fans and some Saints fans as you work your way west.. Auburn and Ala come into play strongly as well the further west in the panhandle you get....

I'm going to say Florida is a far more CFA focused state than the NFL ..That's not to say we don't give a shit about the NFL But between FSU,UF, UCF, USF, the Hurricanes,, FAM, and how badly the state's NFL teams have performed as of late I can easily say that college football is king in this state.. Shoot, we still have a fairly strong contingient of Buckeye fans here on the SW coast despite what turncoat (OH I can't take the pressure) Meyer has done.. This coming from an old school Buckeye fan that wondered why it took so long for Woody to clock that Clemson LB 😆

Florida is predominantly CFA.. No question..

Then again, I had to battle the wife between American Idiot and Playoff NHL hockey on TV tonight 😊 Yeah, I'm watching hockey on a corner screen in my studio and she has AI on the 64"

So what the Fuck do I know.. Just a noob 😁

it makes no sense if you don't understand football.

Catch the steelers off guard? Really?

Do you need walked though this step by step in order to comprehend what's happening? You really think they're belittling johnny?

You remind me of mike silver on total access tonight. 4 ex players and silver discussing manziel....4 ex players all think he should sit and learn.....silver screaming that johnny needs to play. No good reason.....only "he's johnny fucking football".

    Come one man....

I actually don't think we disagreed on anything. I stated that most of central and northern FLA was more into the college game, but that Miami and Tampa are more NFL oriented. Certainly there is interest in the college game in those areas....just like there is big interest in Ohio State here in NEO. But my nephew, born and raised in Ft. Lauderdale says the the Dolphins are the bigger thing down there than the Hurricanes...who are obviously popular (but not so much that they actually fill their stadium...unlike the Dolphins). I think the same applies to the Tampa area.

As for Meyer, he is born, bred in Ohio, and his initial coaching stints were in Ohio...as an asst. and as the coach at Bowling Green.

Florida was not his dream job, Ohio State was. Can't fault a guy for wanting to be at home.

And I am sure Ohio State fans prefer an Ohio born and bred coach. The last time they didn't go that route it was with very mixed results. John Cooper could recruit great players....and win a lot of games....except the big ones that count. Couldn't beat Michigan, couldn't win a bowl game. The President of Youngstown St. and Urban haven't had that problem. (While Tress lost a couple of BCS title games, he won 1 and won most of his other bowls. Meyer has only had the one bowl game which was a loss...but we don't think that trend will continue. The Ohio St. defense cannot remain as bas as it was last year.)
