No star teams

Since we kind of have a rag tag receiving cops and out backfield running group have some studs. (please exclude manziel from this conversation. we get it. sky is the limit) our D is a top ten D, not considered as a elite by many in the fucking media. our O line was touted to be great two years ago. last year it feel apart.
Our D back were a disappointment minus Haden. Sorry people Skrine sucks, so many times I screamed because of him since he started.
Could we be the team that comes from no where? I know there has been talk about the chiefs turning things around. Are we that team or the Panthers that went to the superbowl? do we just shove a F-U meat pie in everyones mouth this year and lose games by 3 or less?
Has anyone done a squad to squad comparison between the teams in our division. Comparing each part of the team to the other teams? I.E. offensive line, WR's, TE's, CB's, etc.. apples to apples for each team with grades?

To paraphrase Rosanne Rosannadanna, "You sure ask a lot of questions for a guy from Ohio."
We've upgraded many areas... some significantly. While I am as optimistic for our future as I have been in years, we are still a work in progress.
Pre-draft I saw us as an 8-8 team. I see no reason to change that prediction as of now, but may well see a reason, or reasons, before our Week 1 visit to Pittsburgh.

We were consistent QB play away from winning a lot more games last year... and I assume that will be the story until we find our franchise QB. It really is as simple as that IMHO...

My ranking for each position group:
Offense
QB - 1.Steelers, 2. Ravens, 3. Bengals, 4. Browns
RB - 1 Bengals, 2. Ravens, 3. Steelers, 4. Browns
WR - 1. Bengals, 2. Ravens, 3. Steelers, 4. Browns
TE - 1. Bengals, 2. Ravens, 3. Browns, 4. Steelers
OL - 1. Browns, 2. Bengals, 3. Steelers, 4. Ravens
Defense
DL - 1. Bengals, 2. Browns, 3. Ravens, 4. Steelers
LB - 1. Ravens, 2. Steelers, 3. Browns, 4.Bengals
CB - 1. Browns, 2. Ravens, 3. Steelers, 4. Bengals
S - 1. Browns, 2. Steelers, 3. Ravens, 4. Bengals
On paper, we should be competitive within the division. But still, the Steelers have the best QB, the Bengals have the best weapons, the Ravens have solid offensive and defensive groups, and we have the worst "skill position" players on offense. Until we get offensive production, we will struggle...

I feel a definite positive vibe coming from this team, like we finally got a front office with a plan that may actually work, and are implementing it step by step.
They took definite steps towards shoring up the defense, especially the secondary.
They seem like they have a solid plan with the offense as well. Not just getting running backs but guys who can move and block as well. Like that TE Dray, known as a solid blocking TE. They seem set on getting a true FB with a few in camp too.
My only concern is it may take longer than training camp to get the offense clicking together, which might spell trouble.

I second that emotion.

I'd probably bump the Browns up a spot at TE, possibly RB, and maybe bump them down a spot at S. Other than that spot on.
That's a good way to break down the division.

Never underestimate the power of belief within a football team. When you have lines this good both sides of the ball, sometimes it is just that turnaround in belief as a team that makes it turn into a steamroller. Browns have huge potential to really turn this around into at least a playoff team. I place the Bucs in that same category this coming season. Similar thing going on with defensive coaching hires and new key talent on O (just for the record I consider a healthy Hoyer as part of that talent since he proved he could do it last year).

Well, you know the old adage, "a team is greater than the sum of its parts". It is also true that a team can be lesser than the sum of its parts. It is true that the Browns have had a negative loser attitude it seems at times which causes them to fail to play up to the capacity of their talent. That has been a result of poor management, poor coaching, poor quarterbacking.
Hopefully all of those areas are in the process of being resolved here since Jan. 1. New management: Farmer. New coaching: Pettine. Better QBing: Hoyer/Manziel (Hoyer really only played 2 full games last year).
We don't know the results...and won't until at least halfway through the new season.

True.
When Hoyer went down last year, you could see everyone get depressed. It was like, not this Weeden guy again. No way we can win now.
Winning is contagious. When we had that streak last year, everyone seemed to be playing hard all the time.
