  • Yeah right, the NFL is a quality employer.

    It's like;

    Here, I have millions of bucks for you and all you have to do is take pain killers and play football on Sundays. Btw, when you crash and burn can I have your tennis shoes? Oh yeah, and when you're so broken up you can't get bucks any longer, take this quarter and call someone that gives a shit.

    remain part of the NFL. Players (most) will take anything if it allows them to get into the game on Sunday. He fucked himself up after leaving the game and taking his habit with him. Now he wants the league to pay for his self induced troubles.

    I kind of laugh at these guys. lets say I work in coal mine, plutonium quarry, do commercial painting all my life, work on oil rigs, work at big international ports, etc..... and think there is not effect on my later life? I appreciate all the players. they are gladiators and risk their body for our entertainment. sad to say but the truth. There are more kids trying to be pro football players now then going to the coal mines. You know the risk now so talk the kids out of football!!!! you made money doing a sport. What is the concussion and pain killer effect in rugby?

    Because litigation isn't nearly so profitable in Europe.

    So they should pay less money and they'd be a better employer? Assuming your point is that anyone that's given millions of dollars is automatically going to go out and take every drug there is to take which is, well, a little bogus.

  • I was watching the "A Football Life" show on NFL network the other day. And it was the Cleveland 1995 show. McMahon was in the 1995 team photo wearing # 9 and also wearing shades

    Here's the photo

    The story underneath the photo would be unbelievable, if I didn't live through it

  • yep, that's onehellava yarn

    Get real. I'm not saying any thing like what you suggest. I'm saying that some employers are more interested in making as much money as possible without a reasonable regard to their employees' health.

    Without 'The Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938', you may have had to work in a sweat shop at the age of 12 for 12+ hours a day and for six months to get that Manziel jersey.

    I'm just sayin', you've got to watch out for overly greedy employers and that there is a lot an employer can do to be fair to their employees. Giving them injury masking drugs so the employee can perform is NOT a good long range strategy...for the employer or the employee.

    No doubt the league will settle. They don't want to air their dirty little secret.

    The suit makes the point that player addiction to pain killers was not "self-induced", but rather it was a by product of team Doctors and trainers pushing use of prescription pain killers far beyond their approved dosage and duration. In effect the league created an "exposure" to an occupational hazard analogous to coal dust (black lung) or asbestos (mesothelioma) or noise (tinnitus) or any of hundreds(?) of other workplace hazards for which victims have been compensated via class action suits.

  • The players had a choice in deciding whether to medicate or not. Coal miners and pipe fitters had no options to control their "exposures"

    Actually they had the exact same option... not working.

    Edit: ... and the exact same circumstance, i.e., they did not know the long-term consequences of their exposure.

  • I get it.....missing a game due to an injury quickly brings you down a notch in the depth chart, but, on the flip side, there have been, are, and will be players who opt out of having the pain symptoms of the injuries masked through opiods and continue to preform at a high level after the injury fully heals.
