The Browns Board

  • I bet Elway would have loved a 6'3" 230 lb. reciever who could win jump balls, but they were A LOT harder to come by in them days.

  • Good thing the NFL hasn't changed in 25 years

I would think the the more offense friendly rules, shorter receivers would have it easier today than they did 25 years ago. But that's something you don't do, think independently.

    he had Shannon Sharp too

  • Wow... So much hate. Poor babies

Any comparison of now to 25 years ago to gauge the skill level of our team is Retarded. Compare our WR heights to those of recent, successful teams. Maybe you get the same result, maybe you don't, but at least its relevant (even if some think its not that important to begin with)

  • why this thread hasn't been shit-canned by admin is beyond me.\

    please no more bronco/Elway topics

  • I guess Percy Harvin is too short too. Hahaha

  • Shannon Sharpe didn't play with the 3 Amigos, I think the TE was Orson Mobley FYI....but I agree with slowburn, hell with the Broncos. They're right up there with the Steelers and Ratbirds on my hate list.

I still shudder when I remember that whole era. We had such a great team, but our big flaw was a lack of any pass rush, and the stupid prevent D that cost us dearly.

  • My bad. I wouldn't have ever brought it up if it hadn't been

for talk about Hawkins and his size. I expect great things

    from him.

  • i was glad to see a strong defense go into the super bowl and totally dominate the game against horseface II and the vaunted #1 offense.

while i love colorado and would move there in a heartbeat the football team and their fans can forever kiss my ass.

  • The gig in Denver was great.

I kinda dig the music scene there because like Cleveland ( at least at one point) there were alot of good local acts.

But beside that. Fuck Denver. Nothing but heartache and them pitying us (if ptiying us is a word) with Horse face's gummy grin.

Talent wise IMO they were no match. Denver on offense was a one trick pony (pun intended) with a side "Sammy

    " Winder

They didn't truly evolve until they got Atwater, Sharpe, and Davis.

They got better on defense and had a horse in the running game.

this year, they're the favorite amongst the pundits to repeat as AFC champs........

i tell you what though, if horseface II goes down, that horse won't finish the race.

The team that won last year's conference title is almost universally selected to repeat. They won't.

How tall did Seattle's WRs go last year? Harvin, Tate and Baldwin are all under six feet.

  • as in, why I don't worry about our wide receivers at this point.

Elway had these three receivers, back in the late 80's, for those who don't remember....

    all three were short.

Mark Jackson was drafted in round 6, and was 5'9", 174 pounds.

Vance Johnson was drafted in round 1, a surprise, and was the tallest,

    at 5'11", 180.

And, Ricky Nattiel, who was also 5'9", about the same weight.

Elway did very well with them.

Quick, tough guys who could get open very quickly.

I wouldn't discount the impact of Hawkins this coming season.

Obviously we'd love to have a big receiver, but I agree that you don't discount smaller guys just because they are small.

My sleeper WR for us is UDFA Chandler Jones ... a smallish receiver that makes plays.
