Browns fans outside of Ohio

My parents live in Naples Florida from the mid 80's until they both passed in the late 2000's,and one of the things they were amazed at was how many Browns fans lived there. I don't know if that's still true, but they were certainly known in south Florida at one time.

It's true. I am the president of the Naples Browns Backers. We pack the house every week.

I tell people I'm a Browns fan and they're usually shocked, we don't have many here in Virginia (there's only 3 of us that I know of). I'm not far from DC and apparently the Browns Backer's bar there gets packed but I've never been. The rare times the Browns do something right it's pretty cool, most people at the bar join in cheering them on just based on our excitement. After that Patriots game last year most people in the bar were pretty pissed even thought they weren't fans, if I recall correctly one dude started screaming "That's mother fuckin bullshit! Fuck the NFL! That's fuckin bullshit!"
-
Here in NC most people don't even know the Browns exist and can't really talk about em much. There's no hate or otherwise just more of a not even being noticed as I watch from the TV in the corner haha. I'd say I MAYBE see 2-3 Browns fans at bars I go to but I'm sure there's more around. Honestly though North Carolina is such a fair weather NFL fan state I'm shocked when they even know the starters on the Panthers squad.
-
I'm in Boston and most people just feel sorry for me. Last year's come-from-behind victory for the Patriots against the Browns didn't help. And shameful as it was, I was telling Patriot fans not to leave the stadium because they were about to witness one of the greatest comebacks in NFL history (I just knew it was going to happen). I only wish that the final field goal attempt didn't come up about 5 yards short. Campbell played a good game, but the defense collapsed in the 4th quarter.
Nonetheless, Bostonians can pity me all they want; being a Browns fan is about resilience during difficult times. When we do start winning games and perhaps championships again, we will know that we were loyal during the tough times and that will make the good times even sweeter!
Go Browns!!

How does your state view the Browns? Are they respected? Laughed at? Etc.
I live in California and there is not a single person that thinks the Browns are good. Not on defense not on offense not ever. All they really know is Jim Brown. And now Johnny Manziel. And I get it. They haven't had much to talk about in years but still they will put ever other team above the Browns on any type of level. It's annoying. Any other people outside of ohio?

California is a big state, I think your statement covers where you live. There are plenty of Browns fans in the San Diego area.

yep I know of a few in SD myself - lived on our street in Maple Hts back in the late 60's

I live in SoCal and I know there are many Browns fans littered through the area. Lots of them in fact. I wouldn't consider Californians any more self centered than any one else from any other state. Some are, some aren't. I would classify CA as more "I don't care, or even think about the Browns" more than "I think the Browns suck".

People could complete and utterly care less about the Browns here...... Well, now some people care because of Conner Shaw. But then if he gets cut, everyone will HATE the browns since he is such a beloved icon here.

Here in Connecticut its mostly Giants fans (knowledgable and classy, old guard) and Patriots fans (entitled Boston-wanna-be idiots, nouveau-riche). Sports bars on Sundays get a smattering of all teams, it seems, but I'm the only Browns fan at my local watering hole. I get absolutely no grief from anyone - including Steeler fans - because they all feel sorry for me in my Trent Richardson jersey (waiting for the new jerseys next year to change). I used to hang with the New England Browns Backers in the '80s - they had commandeered a bar in the center of the state where they promised the owner that they'd pack it every Sunday if he'd put the Browns on every television (back in the days with the huge satellite dishes). It was always packed. I remember the first Sunday there: saw license plates in the parking lot from New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, Rhode Island, Mass, NY and New Jersey. Guys were tailgating too - grills were going before the bar opened at noon. My brush with Browns Greatness: I mentioned to a business acquaintance that I was a Browns fan, and he stated that he was too and that his father used to be a majority owner and President of the Browns from 1953-1960. The guy's dad was David R. Jones - who was part of the group that sold the Browns to Art Modell.

I live in west TX, nothing but Cowboy and Steeler fans. Cowboy fans..... Well they're Cowboy fans. Same fair weather bandwagon Steeler fans as everywhere else I guess. We have an Air Force base here and an occasional Browns fan comes through. There are however a decent amount of NFL fans here who know how much talent the Browns have other than the QB position

Good ole' Youngstown Ohio here baby, and there are plenty of Browns fans here. Plenty of faggoty ass bandwagon Steelers fans as well.
The Browns fans here are pretty damn rowdy and passionate about their team. We could give two fucks less about what others think. This is Youngstown. And the majority of folks around here KNOW football. Again this is Youngstown, folks LOVE their highschool football: of Mooney, Ursuline, and by extension Warren Harding fame (as well as Boardman, which was Bernie Kosars Highschool alma mater... My step brother had his locker in high school, or so he claims....).
And yes the rich, stuck up, filthy Debartolos are from here. How do I know they are fucking douche bags? Because I went to school with several of their grandchildren.
Anyways, go Youngstown and go Browns. People talk about Cleveland being a rough and tumble, blue collar city, and it is, but I believe Youngstown is even more so. Have lived here my entire life, and people here got some real real fight in 'em.

The first line is so true. My wife's family is from Ct, and their dad was a Staunch Giant fan, and my wilfe and all 10 of her siblings are Patriot fans. (the wife goes to the Browns games with me, so she is at least part Browns now) Loved being around her dad and his friends. They were old guard.

Well of course. I know about the Browns fans in SD and in LA. I'm talking about work. Fam. Friends. Random people around my area.

Outer Banks, NC and couldn't give a fuck who's a fan. Fuck em.

In my experience you have to search out to find the Browns fans (in nearby Columbiana county), rather than just run into them randomly. Unlike Steelers fair-weather fans...you'll run into those all day long. But when you do run into a Browns fan...it's like running into an old friend.
-
I will add that again being in NC I do love running into the occasional Browns fan. It's awesome because we all know there's no such thing as a bandwagon Browns fan and I typically have the rare chance to talk about the team outside of here or with my dad.

Substitute the occasional Saints fan for your Steelers, and pretty much the same in East Texas, i.e., Cowboys 24/7.

A snowbird pipeline from NE Ohio to Naples started in the 60's. My maternal Grandfather was swept up by it.

Maple Heights? Holy Milkovich! People in Texas cannot believe that HS wrestling is 2nd only to football in many areas of Ohio.
