Here are your survey questions for this week. Give your opinions:

    1. What were the best and worst trades in Browns history that you can recall?

Best: Hopefully it is the Trent Richardson trade that brings us JFF)....but here some Candidates:

    A. 1966 trade of 3rd round draft pick for Erich Barnes

    B. Trade with LA Rams to bring in Frank Ryan

    C. Trade with Steelers of Dick Shiner for Bill Nelsen

    But, my #1 is:

1978, the Browns trade Mike Phipps to the Bears for their First Round draft pick. The Browns use that pick, plus a 4th rounder to trade up with the Rams to take Ozzie Newsome. In essence they traded Phipps for Newsome. A bargain

Worst: A lot of you will say the Paul Warfield trade, which was bad, but probably not as bad as a lot of others. At least with Warfield they got 6 good years out of him before they traded him. A few other bad ones included these:

    A. trade of rights to Doak Walker, later HOFer, to Lions for draft pick which they used to take John Sandusky. Walker went on to give the Browns fits in NFL title games for the Lions.

    B. Trade of future HOFer Doug Atkins for the rights to Larry Ross and Sherman Plunkett? Icky!

    C. Trades of Willie Davis and Henry Jordan to the Packers

But my #1 worse trade is a multiplicity of trades outlined here:

    http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2014/04/how_the_1974_nfl_draft_led_the.html

    2. Defending Soccer Champion Spain has been ingloriously aufed from any chance at defending their title. Big deal, or no?

Not a big deal to me....maybe to the Spanish. But I like to see fresh blood, so I am good with it.

    3. If Johnny Manziel was a car, what kind of car would he be?

He would be a Cadillac Converj......in other words, a top of the line concept prototype:

    http://www.motortrend.com/features/auto_news/2009/112_0901_cadillac_converj_body_style/

    4. Today, the Washington Redskins have had all their patents and trademarks cancelled by the US Patent Office. What affect do you think this will have?

It could have a major effect. It does not mean that the Redskins must change their name....but it does mean that they ....and the NFL, now have no trademark protection over the name....or any of the brands and logos that they use. While they can still charge marketing right to their logos.....they have no right to go against anyone that chooses not to pay them for the use of Redskins logo on their merchandise. This could be big big money lost on all this. If I were an apparell manufacturer whom the NFL wanted to charge for producing Redskins gear, I would say "fuck off" you no longer have rights to these logos, they are now all in the public domain. At least that is how I read its potential.

    5. What city that does not now have an NFL team do you think should be the next to get one....expansion or move?

To me, it is San Antonio.....not LA

    6. Yesterday was the 20th Anniversary of the OJ Simpson chase. Where were you and what were you doing...if you recall.

I sure do recall. My daughter was born just after 9:00 pm on June 16, 1994. I stayed with my wife and child until about midnite, then went home to bed. The next day was June 17th, the day of the chase. I went to the hospital, then to the office, then back to the hospital and about late afternoon wife and child were doing fine and rested, so I went home. My in laws were there and I found my father in law sitting on the couch (they had been with my wife much of the day as well)....and of course all hell broke loose.

So when you see that 30 for 30 film on June 17th 1994....know that those events took place on the first full day of my daughter's life.

  • I was working as a a painter and listening to the verdict via radio on the job site.

Uhmm, the verdict came a couple of years later. I am talking about the day of the White Bronco Chase, June 17, 1994.

    Sure

I think we have a winner - Manzielratti

    4. Today, the Washington Redskins have had all their patents and trademarks cancelled by the US Patent Office. What affect do you think this will have?

    PC strikes again

    5. What city that does not now have an NFL team do you think should be the next to get one....expansion or move?

Some city in a state that doesn't have a team -- Birmingham??

    6. Yesterday was the 20th Anniversary of the OJ Simpson chase. Where were you and what were you doing...if you recall.

Don't remember about the chase but trial verdict I was at work at NASA/JSC.
  • It's a big deal only in the fact that you are now the first poster in Browns Board history to use the word "aufed

Actually, I have used that word here before...so this was not the first time.

(the funny thing is I got it from Heidi Klum....and it kinda works in some situations)

  • Warfield for pick that took Phipps

Note in my thread where we were actually able to turn the Phipps acquisition around for a first round pick that netted us Ozzie Newsome....so....we traded a HOFer away for a while, but then got him back, but we turned the bad trade back into netting another HOFer. So, in long range historical perspective, it turned out OK.

I can't remember what I had for breakfast so fuggitaboutit

  • Another personal note about the OJ thing. Nicole Brown Simpson and her sister were actually Lou Brown's second family if you will.

Lou Brown actually originally lived right here in Barberton, Ohio. When I was small I went to church with his family. Nicole's half brother, Tracy, and I were altar boys together. Her half sister married one of my best friend's wife's brother....but that half sister died of like ALS or something. My friend recalls Nicole coming in for the funeral, and they went out to eat afterward, and Nicole apparently said somethink like "Dinner is on OJ" as she used a credit card in his name to pay for the meal.

  • 5. What city that does not now have an NFL team do you think should be the next to get one....expansion or move?

    San Jose

Uhhm, the new 49ers stadium is being built in Santa Clara, right adjacent to San Jose.....so, so much for that. Done.

  • What day of the week was the chase? Sunday?

No, it was a Friday afternoon.

Like I said, having a kid born the night before that all happened tends to cause you to remember it.

    2. Defending Soccer Champion Spain has been ingloriously aufed from any chance at defending their title. Big deal, or no?

It's soccer. If I wanted to watch someone struggle to score for 90 minutes I'd just take my friends to a bar.

    3. If Johnny Manziel was a car, what kind of car would he be?

    f1+accident+pictures.jpg

very fast, very dangerous, very flashy, very fragile.

You go from being champions and still ranked one to eliminated 1st. Spain fútbol is done for a couple years.

    3. If Johnny Manziel was a car, what kind of car would he be?

Hopefully he's a DeLorean so he can take us back in time to where the Browns where playoff bound.

    4. Today, the Washington Redskins have had all their patents and trademarks cancelled by the US Patent Office. What affect do you think this will have?

Eventually they will be changed to the Reds or something. Then they will go to the next team Indians or Blackhawks.

    5. What city that does not now have an NFL team do you think should be the next to get one....expansion or move?

LA. Business wise it's a good idea. It makes sense.

    6. Yesterday was the 20th Anniversary of the OJ Simpson chase. Where were you and what were you doing...if you recall.

I was 4 years old living in Ventura Ca.haha

  • Here are your survey questions for this week. Give your opinions:

    1. What were the best and worst trades in Browns history that you can recall?

Best: 1st round pick (#6, turned into Julio Jones) for a ton of draft picks. Can't downgrade the trade just because the front office screwed up the picks.

    Worst:

    2. Defending Soccer Champion Spain has been ingloriously aufed from any chance at defending their title. Big deal, or no?

Big deal. I don't think anyone saw this coming. Talk about a crash and burn.

    3. If Johnny Manziel was a car, what kind of car would he be?

    1973 AMC Gremlin.

    4. Today, the Washington Redskins have had all their patents and trademarks cancelled by the US Patent Office. What affect do you think this will have?

None. The Redskins have already appealed and will drag this thing out indefinitely. If any change does occur to the Redskins name/logo, the Cleveland Indians will be on-deck. Personally, the fact that such a big deal is being made about the Redskins (and Indians) logos offends me. So I think I'll sue the Native American peoples...

    5. What city that does not now have an NFL team do you think should be the next to get one....expansion or move?

    Honolulu.

    6. Yesterday was the 20th Anniversary of the OJ Simpson chase. Where were you and what were you doing...if you recall.

Watching the NBA Championship and eating crawfish in the bar at Chuck's Restaurant in Storrs, CT.

Worst: Bess - Miami/Richardson (moving up to 3)

Haven't been a fan that long, so very recent...

    2. Defending Soccer Champion Spain has been ingloriously aufed from any chance at defending their title. Big deal, or no?

    Huge.

    3. If Johnny Manziel was a car, what kind of car would he be?

One that appeared very flashy with no substance, but gave surprisingly good mileage.

    4. Today, the Washington Redskins have had all their patents and trademarks cancelled by the US Patent Office. What affect do you think this will have?

To start with, a huge market in unofficial merchandising. Long term, it would cause the NFL to lose money, so there'd be pressure to change the name.

    5. What city that does not now have an NFL team do you think should be the next to get one....expansion or move?

London! Nah, some big city that isn't LA.

    6. Yesterday was the 20th Anniversary of the OJ Simpson chase. Where were you and what were you doing...if you recall.

I was 8. In June, I would have been in school.

Ok I misread chase for case..In that case..I was at the local watering hole have a few beers...and watching it unfold on cnn...

  • 1. What were the best and worst trades in Browns history that you can recall?

    Best :

The trade for Bill Glass with Detroit was a very good one.

Runner-up: TR to Indy made best of a bad situation.

    Worst:

Warfield to Miami for their #1 pick... used for Phipps.

Runners-up: The trade up to draft Quinn; the trade up to draft TR.

    2. Defending Soccer Champion Spain has been ingloriously aufed from any chance at defending their title. Big deal, or no? Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo..............

    3. If Johnny Manziel was a car, what kind of car would he be? Corvair... unsafe at any speed... 🙂

    4. Today, the Washington Redskins have had all their patents and trademarks cancelled by the US Patent Office. What affect do you think this will have?

Ruling will stand on appeal and subsequent wallet pain will ultimately lead to name change.

    5. What city that does not now have an NFL team do you think should be the next to get one....expansion or move?

San Anton seems like a natural... it has size and a domed stadium albeit somewhat aged and the Gunslingers were a very successful USFL franchise. I think it would be via a move, since domestic league expansion is highly unlikely IMO. A 32-team league is perfect size.

    6. Yesterday was the 20th Anniversary of the OJ Simpson chase. Where were you and what were you doing...if you recall.

No idea... I do remember listening to verdict in the lunchroom at work.

    2. Defending Soccer Champion Spain has been ingloriously aufed from any chance at defending their title. Big deal, or no?

Huge deal. This was basically the equivalent of the #1 seed in football losing in the first round of the playoffs 49-7. It is definitely good for the rest of the world, though.

    3. If Johnny Manziel was a car, what kind of car would he be?

    Porsche 911. Small, quick, flashy.

    They are screwed.

    5. What city that does not now have an NFL team do you think should be the next to get one....expansion or move?

Most likely? LA. I think Oklahoma City might be able to embrace a team after what they've done with the Thunder.
