Yea, but the guy that took the knee to the nose, which was broken, sucked it up and stayed in the game.

But, I agree, US soccer players should not be the preening pansies they are everywhere else on the globe. You don't flop, you don't whine, you don't cry. You don't act like a fucking drama queen. You are an American athlete....act like one. Dempsey, the guy with the broken nose, did so. Not sure about the other guy. I wasn't watching it then ..I hadn't gotten home from work yet. But even if he was legitimately hurt, which I don't doubt....a gurney for a hamstring pull? You walk off with the limp...or you get a couple of teammates to help you off while you lean on their shoulders.

So far our team has flopped the least in this tournament, something I'm incredibly proud of. Altidore being taken out on a stretcher is how FIFA and professional soccer in general deal with legit injuries. I have no doubt Altidore would've preferred to walk off under his own power but he didn't have a choice in the matter. Bitching about that is akin to bitching about an NFL player missing a play so the doctors can check for a concussion. It's protocol, the players have no choice in the matter.

Although I'll admit, if he shoved the doctors (or whatever personal was manning the stretcher) away to walk off under his own power, it would rank right up there with my "Proudest to be an American Moments." Regardless of our end result, that would've been the image of the tournament.

Yeah, I was going to say WTF about Altidore getting carted off on a stretcher for a hamstring pull till I saw the explanation. Crap Bernie Kosar limped off the field with a broken leg- you'd never see an NFL player call for the golf cart with just a hammie.

I've sort of gotten used to the flopping- but man, for the most part is it ever bad acting.

Cahill scored one of the goals of the world cup - and not just this world cup, when you run down the top 10 goals of any world cup, it'll be in there.

    Casillas is just being abused.

Hasn't he been on sabbatical or out with injury or something?

He's not first choice for Real Madrid anymore, he got dropped by Mourinho and Ancelotti has kept it that way.

    Now, England lol?

Poor buggerers, it looks like the USA has surpassed them at their own game and they didn't even see it coming! 😛

The Japanese blew a ton of opportunities but still got fucked by the refs with non-calls on blatant fouls that they were calling for Greece. Greece is now my most hated team in the cup.

So if we quit spying on Germany do you think they'd give us a 1-0 win? I mean unless Portugal or Ghana win by 5, Germany would go through too.

    Get on it Obama.

Edit: I'll take a draw as well. Math is hard.

  • MLD WoodyM MLD Woody wrote on last edited by

We adv with a tie or draw

We adv is we lose and Ghana v Portugal is a tie

We adv if we lose and beat the winner of Ghana/Portugal on goal differential

I think we are still going to adv. We have everything in our favor. Portugal should be the favorite against Ghana and they're -4 right now.

Plus, Klinsman is a German legend. Do we really think Germany is going to try to crush us? They probably won't come out and beat us by 2+. I think we got this

But god damn, that late goal was awful. For how well we played... a mistake early and one late killed us.

Holy shit though, these games have been great.

  • T Taco918 wrote on last edited by

If we play the way we did against Portugal, we can draw with a German team who would rather skate by in their final game and rest up for the knock out rounds. We played a great game with only two major mistakes, unfortunately Portugal took advantage of both. We should've had three goals and Portugal truly only earned one (the last one.)

After a few drinks I'm much more optimistic about our chances. That last goal would be much tougher to stomach if we hadn't won the first game. I'd be concerned about a hang over but we still control our own destiny and have the upper hand which should be enough motivation going into the final game in group play.

If the USA wasn't a participant in that game I would say it was one of the best in the World Cup so far and I might be able to say that if we advance.

    But we have to advance.

That's what happens when you play in the middle of a rain forest.

Ballsy pick. They still need to beat Italia to move to the knock out stage. Suarez is a baller though (I have a buddy who's a huge Liverpool fan. I'm pretty sure I've heard enough about Suarez to consider him family.) I'm looking forward to that game.

I could go on a long rant about England, but I'll decline the option.

All I can say is: DUMBASSES.

You would think the US team was headquartered in Cleveland with a heartbreaking loss.....errrr.....tie, like that.
