I suspect that the Redskins will apply for an exemption on the grounds of cultural heritage - if anyone else tries to name their team 'Redskins' they wouldn't be able to, but because it's such a part of american culture it can stay.

hopefully I'm just missing the tongue in cheek...but you're not actually suggesting the "gubment" was behind the NBA forcing Sterling out or even the pressure to make Snyder change the logo..are you? The govt had absolutely "zero" to do with the NBA's decision that Donald Sterling was bad for their brand, none whatsoever. The NBA is a private organization and if they felt Donald Sterlings private comments didn't reflect badly on the rest of the owners and brass at HQ..than they would have done nothing and the govt probably couldn't have done shit about it. With the Redskins, that was the patent office saying their logo isn't protected anymore because it would be akin to a team calling themselves the so and so niggers, they could do so...but they couldn't sue anybody for infringing on their brand because you can't patent the N word. They just came to a legal decision that Redskin is akin to the N word. Snyder doesn't have to do anything, he can keep calling the team the Redskins.....but you and I can make Washington Redskins merchandise now and sell if we were so inclined. He just has to live with that if he's super attached to the Redskins name. That is all. Nothing to do with Govt overreach on this one.
