HOF Game

The Browns Board
19 9 684
  • Actually held my interest for a half... Miscellaneous thoughts:

    • -Seantrel Henderson, one of my 2014 sleepers, looked damn good at LT for Bills;
    • -I like the headsets for the officiating crew, eliminates a lot of the ref huddling and speeds up the game;
    • -1st team D's beat first team O's early on.
    • -Once second team D goes in it becomes a game.
  • *Henderson

  • Well fuck it, it's actual vaguely competitive football, no waved off sacks, no 'simulated' pass rush, full blooded tackling. It's only been 6 months...

  • i know this was only the first preseason game, but i didn't like what i saw from the bills. they needed to win that game just for the sake of winning a freakin game.

  • EJ Manuel is awful....I love it.

    I loved what I saw from the Bills. Worse that team does, the better it is for us. Manuel was a slug!

    Would love to see a winning season for the Browns capped off with a top five pick in the draft.

  • yeah i forgot about the trade ramifications.

    i think the bills are a lot like the browns as far as being in the rust belt area of the US, blue collar fans (yeah another generalization) etc. who have just had a terrible run of bad luck. manuel might lead the league in batted down balls if he continues to throw low darts at his receivers. he sucked balls last nite and watkins did absolutely nothing.

    +1. I hope the Bills go 1-15

  • I wonder why it took this long to get tablets on the sidelines. Watching the QB's look at black and white photos was completely insane

  • I didnt see much of it, how was the new rule with the Eligible Receiver / Defender Contact, Jersey Pulls, Illegal Use of Hands look? These new rules are going to suck for db's this year.

  • *Henderson

    Bills 1st team D looked good... aggressive. Offense not so much...

    I really did not see that much difference. Couple minor pushes let go... one bad PI call where the WR's feet looked to go out from under him.

    Others may have different view...

    Related note: Loved Pettine putting boxing gloves on Haden...

    One more HOF game thought... the 30-yd PAT is just stupid.

    You know I can even hear an argument about the current extra point. It's something like 99.5% of extra points are made, but moving it back is dumb. Why not just remove it all together? A touchdown is 7 points and you get the chance to go for an "extra point" if needed. Takes nothing away from the game really and could be considered a safer way to play.

    If you're going down that route, maybe take away special teams altogether. No kickoffs, pick the ball up on your own 20 (because most kickoffs are touchbacks these days anyway). No punting, just moved the ball 40 yards down field.

    Then again, ST are some of the most exciting plays because of the broken field.

    Ive watched alot of football and I only remeber one time I seen a guy get hurt on an extra point. From an excitement standpoint, why not make the offense line up with one less blocker on extra points? More blocks = more excitement on the play. Or take it away and give em the 7 and a chance to go for the extra point with the offense, but if they miss they go down to 6.

    Because there's that time every once in a while when the chips are down that one gets blocked or the snap is bad or the holder muffs it or...

    I liked the suggestion Bill Cowher had a year or so ago.....narrow the space between the goalposts. It toughens up a LOT of more or less "automatic" kicks & may just change some strategies when a team is sitting on the 30 or so with a 4th & 2 or 3 OR has a difficult angle. His suggestion, at least to me, made a great dealof sense WITHOUT changing the game.

    Not bad, but speaking of "difficult angles" and not "changing the game"...

    How about putting the hash marks back where they used to be?

  • There will soon be no more kickers and some extra spots on the roster. You will also have to think about the college game, ST sometimes makes the games. If the NFL does away from it, they may not be to far behind.

    Well that's not quite the same because I'd imagine 5-7% (I have no idea about this so don't flame me) of kick-offs end up in turnovers or points. Look I'm not suggesting it even gets changed, in fact I hope it doesn't. But for me I'd rather just say 'okay it's seven points for a td' with a chance for 8. I just mentioned the safety thing because that's the NFL go to for every rule change it seems like.
