5 Browns Starting QB’s played in week 3
-
Week 3 was a busy week for Browns starting QB’s (past present and future) with five of them playing, and 4 out of 5 playing in the division.
In alphabetical order:
D. Anderson (and a shout out to the Carolina QB coach, Browns starting QB, Ken Dorsey)
J. Campbell
B. Gradkowski
B. Hoyer
J. Manziel
The Browns QB of the Week Award goes to Derek Anderson, who happens to be the best QB in the NFL based on his 119.8 QB efficiency rating. All in all, he has completed 29 out of 40 passes for 310 Yards with 3 TD’s and zero INT.
Anderson should be the starter. Not only is he outplaying Cam Newton, but Newton is hurt and should be allowed to heal completely before playing. Newton has rib and ankle injuries and is wearing three layers of rib padding which did not seem to help him much when a 320 pound Steelers Nose Tackle and a 280 pound Defensive End sacked him. He was sacked three times and knocked-down numerous more times. Midway through the first quarter, Newton started limping and it just got worse from there.
Rib injuries are the worst. It only hurts when you breathe or when you move. A critical look at Newton shows that he is wincing in pain just to take a deep breath.
Anderson started and played the entire game for week one, then came back in the fourth quarter in week three.
With 5:38 left in the game and his team down by 24 points, Derek Anderson executed a brilliant 6-play hurry-up offensive drive culminating in a 35 yard TD pass. The entire drive used up 1:39 in clock time. CAR was down by 18 points with 4:01 remaining.
When the 2 point conversion failed, the Steelers deployed their on-sides-kick coverage unit, but to their surprise, CAR effectively threw-in-the towel by kicking it away for a touchback.
Bruce Gradkowski and the PIT running game were able to mop-up the win. Gradkowski did not attempt a pass.
Jason Campbell came in to mop up for CIN with 6:08 left in the game and the score TEN-7 CIN-33. He passed for negative 3 yards in two attempts.

Those are great stats for Campbell and grad. Anderson will give you the occasional great game then will deliver a heap of steaming shit to your front door.

Yes, Mr. Mellon- I must say I was quite shocked seeing Anderson's gaudy qbr. Us Browns fans are betting he can't keep that up.

If he had maintained that quality of play, hell, he would still be the starting QB for the Browns.
We thought we had something in him in the 2007 season. If he continued to play like he did that year there would have been no Brady Quinn, Colt McCoy, Brandon Weeden experiments. He could have been our version of the likes of BR or Flacco. He isn't really any older than those guys, is he?
But he didn't do any of that, now did he.
He can be good for a few games, then he realizes that he is playing QB in the NFL and gags.

More like 4 played and one play-acted...

Based on the way that Kirk Cousins played last night former Browns QB Colt McCoy should have played against the Giants.

Name one Browns QB since our rebirth who even came close to matching DA's numbers in 2007.
It's too damn bad the majority had a woody over BQ and bad-mouthed everything DA did. Perhaps if he wasn't looking over his shoulder and having to hear all the ignorant BS that the fans and media spewed, he would have got the job done long term.

Or, perhaps, he's an inconsistent QB who has only had one decent season in 10 years of playing.
We're talking NFL here. If looking over his shoulder and listening to the media and fans is the reason he sucks so bad, then he doesn't belong. Plain and simple.

Inconsistent. It was a nail-biter every time he dropped back to pass. 2007 was a surprise.

Oh, but the dude had a wicked strong arm. He could throw an absolute line drive bullet like clothesline laser ballistic missile pass. Which proved to be a fantastic and very efficient way to get it to the other team.
