  • Is this a "Heisman trophy" discussion?

Pretty much to be considered for that award now one has to be a QB on a championship contending team.

Ergo, Jameis and Mariota are the top candidates.

Todd Gurley seemed like a possible to crack that category with his performance.

And lets note this: The kid that replaced JMZ at Texas A&M had a better game in his first time behind center than JFF ever did. So? Is it the system....or the player?

Not necessarily... more of a notepad for players that caught an eye...

  • Today's crop:

    1. Tennesee's Marquez North (WR 6-4 221 SO) - only 3 for 15, but a pretty TD...

    2. Ark O-line... huge guys with a couple that can move.

    3. Ark RBs: Looks like they have their own West/ Crow 1-2 punch in Williams / Collins. Collins runs "tough"

    4. Cinci Bearcat LB Jeff Luc is kinda fast for his 6'1 256 size...

  • ESPN's Top 8 in their Heisman Watch:

    1. Marcus Mariota..Oregon QB

    2. Todd Gurley...Georgia RB

    3. Alice Cooper...Alabama WR

    4. Ameer Abdullah...Nebraska RB

    5. Kenny Hill...Texas A&M QB

    6. Everert Golson...Notre Dame QB

    7. Taysom Hill...BYU QB

    8. Dak Prescott...Miss. St. QB

    no mention or Winston

  • Alice Cooper? Impressive.

Amari Cooper, actually....but I think Alice works fine too

  • Watching Mariota and his Ducks go down against AZ last nite, I could not help but think "David Carr".

Most of the positive impressions were around high-motor, AZ defenders, but no player jumped off the screen and said "draft me".

The Duck players aside from Marcus have been reading too many press clippings...

  • If Joey Bosa was draft eligible this year, I'd take him in a Browns uni and not think twice.

  • Bosa has the look of a 3-4 DE, but I think he's going to go too high.

There be some ballers on the Mississippi St. roster:

    - QB Prescott has size, a nice arm and presence;

    - WR Wilson has size, nice hands and looks fairly fast; and

    - their 2 ILBs, McKinney (6'5, 249) and Brown (2 INTs) both look athletic.

  • Saw that Brown kid. I'd like to see more on him. Good discipline and range in coverage. Nabbing another ILB would be nice because, let's be honest - Dansby's play will decline quickly in the next couple years.

As for Bosa, by some miracle I pray he would drop to us if the Brownies are picking in the teens.

  • The Stanford DT/ NT, David Parry looks interesting... especially on the nose. good size 6'2 300, nice quicks, nice motor. 5th yr Senior.

On Bama Cooper looks like a really good, midsize WR prospect.

While I am wary of Bama RBs... I gotta think TJ Yeldon is going to be a good one. He always makes me think of former, 48er Saftey, Merton Hanks.

And for the next Punter as a weapon, how about Scott.

  • Alabama has had a lot of players get drafted high in the NFL and not live up to expectations (or straight up leave the league)

  • Parry stood out to me as well. I'd be interested in a mid round pick for him.

Cooper plays that John Mayer football. He runs strong routes and fights through contact, I think he'd make a fine fringe #1 WR. Is he a Julio,

Green or Alshon? No. But he is damn good in his own right.

As for Yeldon, I couldn't disagree more. The kid can't get past his ball security issues.
