On a serious note, to date the war in Afghanistan has cost in excess of $700bn (to the US alone, never mind other countries). $60bn as a one off expense to be able to withdraw, as the UK has now done and the US is doing - I think? - at the moment, is a good use of money. If the Afghan army wasn't up to scratch and we had to stay in for another two years, for example, could cost about another $100bn.
