what the hell? Did we turn a major corner or is Cincy closet bums?

The truth is both, that the Bengals aren't very good and that the Browns are turning out to be pretty good, while my Ravens have taken the vacant seat at the bottom of the division usually filled by Cleveland.
I stand by what I said a few weeks ago, final 6 weeks coming up will be crucial. That said, a win next week would be huge, because you guys could split the rest of your games after that and still be 10-6.
To be fair, you guys are benefiting from a injury plagued Bengals and Ravens team, and you also have a surging Steelers team to compete with. As the Ravens and Bengals get healthy, this is gonna be a wild finish for the division, and the 1 wildcard spot not filled by an AFC West team.
You seen how many people have been in and out of our roster? And one of our guys who hasn't as of yet missed a game, needed an epidural in his back the other week just to play. Our front 7 has been dinged the whole season, we saw Taylor limp off the field again yesterday so who knows what's going on with that. Armonty is obviously out the whole season....so yeah, we're as banged up as anybody in the NFL.

Right? Mack on IR, Armonty Bryant on IR, John Hughes on IR/Designated to return, Backup LB/Special teamer Darius Eubank on IR
Gordon on Suspended list all year.
Phil Taylor out for a while. That is 3 DL there....and who else?

Taylor limped off the field last night because he looked like he just finished eating pre-injury phil taylor.

Do you suppose we are benefiting from missing three Pro-Bowlers on our offense, too? So to be fair, we are still winning despite missing Alex Mack, Josh Gordon, and Jordan Cameron. Not to mention our d-line has also been injured. I don't remember the last time we had all three starters at the same time. Oh yeah, and our leading receiver was out last night, too.
Everyone gets injured. The Browns are showing they can play through that adversity.

Those teams are no more injury riddled than the Browns. The Browns are down 2 First Team All Pros: Mack and Gordon. Plus Pro Bowler Cameron....plus several other quality player game losses.
Sure, we get Gordon back after another game.
How many All Pros and Pro Bowlers did the Ravens and Bengals lose?
Jimmy Smith, Dennis Pitta, didn't have Daniels for the Bengals game, left side of offensive line been shuffling in and out. Bengals have been without Green for many of their losses, and he still doesn't appear to be 100%.
Don't misunderstand me, not trying to take away credit. Browns deserve their record. they have done a better job handling the injuries than we have.
and you also have a surging Steelers team to compete with.
No, we don't, not really. We are done playing them. They are now the concern of the Bengals mostly as they are the ones with 2 games left
Compete in the sense of who wins the division, not head to head.

The browns aren't injury plagued? It's week 10 everybody's banged up. We're missing 3 offensive pro bowlers and have battled with defensive line injuries all year.
It's not easy coming into a losing franchise and changing the culture. Looks like Farmer and Pettine are succeeding though, hats off to them.
And I agree with neon deion about hoyer, pay the man!
Yes, the Browns have injuries. Everyone has injuries. I agree.
Browns are in prime position to take the division, it helps that they are playing well in spite of injuries while the Ravens and Bengals struggle with theirs.

Lol I derped on that one it's fixed now
Easy mistake. It has been a while since I've seen Marvin Harrison's name tho and visualized that epic receding hair line lol.
-
Everytime I think Marvin Harrison is going to get fired they give him a raise. I don't know how he has held his job for so long, but I don't mind.
Marvin Harrison came out of retirement and is now coaching the Bengals!!?! (Marvin Lewis

)Marvin Harrison probably could have coached a better game. Did you see Lewis get tackled by his own player? Priceless. I don't know why Mike Brown keeps Lewis around

Roller coaster ride with Lewis. I don't think he's a terrible coach, but I do think he has a tendency to lose his teams when the going gets a little tough. Bottom line I don't think Dalton's play last night was a result of poor coaching and the game go so out of hand because Dalton really was that bad last night. The only QB to have a worse QBR in recent memory is Eli Manning his rookie year were he nabbed a perfect zero and we've all seen the ups and downs of Eli Manning.

I don't think he's a bad coach, but he's definitely on his last leg. He can't get that team prepared for games that matter. They were a big favorite in their last playoff game against an inferior SD team and laid an egg yet again.

Reading this made me vomit.
do you disagree? do you think that generally cleveland sports fans are level headed, rational, and intelligent?

A small percentage are for sure.
You need to realize how damaged most Cleveland sports fans are. Lots of bad memories destroys brain cells. No excuse I suppose, but its a factor.

I don't think Mike Brown works that way. If Lewis was ever going to be on his last leg that would have happened years ago IMO. He's had some serious up and downs. I'd place the game last night more on Dalton's absolutely pathetic play than on Lewis and his ability to coach. However Tom Coughlin is in a similar position in New York so you may be right. I'm sure his seat is getting warm but I don't believe his job is in danger, not yet.

As someone else already mentioned that type of fandom exists everywhere. Everyone would really understand if you could tune in to Pittsburgh sports radio when they were losing. Callers can and often are absolutely ridiculous and the reality is that type of polarizing position exists in the most passionate fan bases. Crazy fans exist everywhere.

I don't what to make of this game. That was an ass beating we put on them. Play half that good throughout the season and we're 8-0. This team is odd. How was our line that freakin bad last week against Tampa but this week we all of a sudden looked like the 9'ers run blocking. The only time the o line irritated me tonight was when Greco whiffed on Atkins and he tackles Hoyer on his way to the handoff, never seen that tbh. But yeah other than that the line was blocking fools out of their shoes tonight. And defensively we stopped the run...holy fuck my ass running we stopped the fucking run. How the hell did that happen? Srsly I've been wanting an all-22 x's and o's on why we couldn't stop the run all season but now I want to know what we did different tonight. I saw Robertson got most of the ILB snaps next to Dansby tonight. Maybe they figured out he's a better run stopper than Kirksey? I want to say Taylor's return had something to do with it but he was there in the beginning of the season so who the fuck knows. But something clicked tonight that's for sure. This is the front seven we were all expecting at the start of the season.
The secondary though, holy hell this is looking like the best secondary in the NFL right now. Dude's are playing their asses off. I know Dalton eerily reminds me of another ginger we had here in Cleveland...but there were some good throws he made to Green tonight that Haden shut down...skrine too. These guys are clicking huge.
Side note, Sheard looked like he had one of his best games this season. Looked better than Kruger tonight and I thought Kruger had another solid but not terribly great game. Even Mingo looked stout setting the edge tonight. Still think we need to get Kruger and Sheards hands down way more, and at the same time. I see them both put their hands down than stand up....and still rush. What's the point to that? They know you're coming. Why does our DC have them do that if down and distance make it an obvious rushing down?

May be before your time, but why did Tom Landry have his Offensive Line raise up and reset every time (essentially cocking the Offense)?
Could be something similar going on here with that.

Indeed.
The post game radio show on WKNR went until 3am & fans were still calling.

I'm pretty sure what you describe is a characteristic of a "bad coach".

Lewis has survived a lot of things... a run of off-field behavior issues, injury plagued seasons, etc., but after a couple good years with play-off disappointments, 2014 was built up to be "their season". Seize the AFCN and a chunk of home-field and push at least to the Conf Championship...
Many of the past failures, especially the off-field related ones, reflect at least as badly on the GM as they do the HC (and many would argue more on the GM). But when the talent is assembled... the pieces are in place... the expectations are heightened to be a major, post-season factor and you do not deliver???
Not looking good for Marvin, right now...
But there should be an opening (or two) in NYC...

Mike Brown doesn't, the fans do. If they don't make the playoffs they might get more bill board funding in cincy.
And Dalton sucked, but our defense deserves credit. Tight coverage and decent pressure.

Not that the Browns didn't play their best game of the year- but the Bengals were missing 4 starters on defense. (Adkins went out with an injury). And they lost their staring RT- whoever was filling in for him makes McQuistan look like Joe Thomas. The guy was a turnstile all night.
-
Big win.
Just big! period.
-
Compete in the sense of who wins the division, not head to head.
Well, since both the Browns and Ravens have finished up with Pitt, then I guess it is up to both of us to rely on the Bengals to take the Steelers out.
After last night does anyone have confidence that that will happen?
One undeniable thing is that BR is playing lights out.
-
that loss was on Cincy's FO and their inability to acquire a QB that can make use of their offensive threats. Not on Marvin Lewis imo. Defensively they were without Burfict and Mauleauga (fuck I hate trying to spell that name). If we lost Dansby and either Robertson or Kirksey...what would our interior LB'ers look like? Someone knock on wood this instant pls.
-
Playoff "issues" aside, Dalton looked like their best option last year.
I doubt the CIN FO made a decision on Dalton without consulting their HC... as in, "Can you win with...".
Last nite's loss to "the lowly Browns" was likely not Lewis' proverbial "final straw", but it was a pretty effin' big straw to add to an accumulation of them.
Injuries are a fact of NFL life. Acknowledge that, but ask of the players put on the field:
- Did they look emotionally ready to play?
- Did it look like they had solid game plans?
- How well did they execute those game plans?
Ultimately the answer to each of those falls on the HC.
One HC on the field went 3 for 3... the other was damn close to an O-fer...
