  • Cam Newton not seriously injured in car wreck

    The Panthers quarterback escaped serious injury when his truck overturned in an accident on Tuesday afternoon.

    Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was apparently not seriously injured in a car accident that overturned his pickup truck early Tuesday afternoon in Charlotte, according to Kelli Bartik of WCCB in Charlotte and other reports. He did not suffer any broken bones, and doctors were examining his for internal injuries.

    The Carolina Panthers released a statement saying that Newton is in "fair" condition, and that he will be held overnight for tests and observation.

    Police told reporters that Newton was placed on a stretcher and taken to the hospital as a precautionary method. Authorities also said that he was communicating and asked not to be taken to the hospital after the accident.

    Another car was involved in the accident. Newton was driving his truck, and was the only person in the vehicle. The second car had a passenger along with the driver. Early reports did not include an update on the status of the other car's driver, but police officers told media on the scene that they did not believe anyone involved in the accident to be seriously injured.

    The accident occurred on the Church Street bridge over I-277 in uptown Charlotte, in front of Bank of American Stadium, at approximately 12:30 p.m. ET. The other car involved in the accident was reportedly crossing the street when Newton's truck hit it. Additional details about the accident were not available.

    The Panthers said that they were aware of Newton's accident and that the quarterback had not suffered any "life-threatening" injuries shortly after it happened. The team did not comment on his availability to practice or play.

    I disagree, the Browns have lost to Ryan Mallet, Blake Bortles and Kyle Orton. It changes nothing. Hopefully Cam is okay. I love watching him play. They showed him on the sidewalk and he gave a smile before being loaded into the ambulance.

  • Just FYI Panthers tweeted he suffered a transverse process fracture in his lower back. Not sure what that means to his health but wouldn't be surprised to see him out for the season.

    Actually it's technically only a 1/2 game. If they won this weekend and the Falcons lost against the Steelers (very possible) and Saints against the Bears (even game so possible) they'd be in first place. It's maddening that's for sure haha.

    Well Tony Romo had a fracture in his back and still is playing....for what that's worth. But maybe in the next game someone will hurt Romo such that he will have to sit......

    making the 9-4 Cowboys reliant on Brandon Weeden to carry them into the playoffs.

    And with this maybe Newton will have to sit making the Panthers reliant on Derek Anderson to take them to the playoffs.

    Too bad the Redskins don't play in the NFCS. They.....with Colt McCoy would be in the playoff hunt.

    And then lets take out Dalton and put Jason Campbell in charge of the Bengals playoff hunt.

    And please allow the Falcons to put down BR so that the Steelers must be reliant on Bruce Gradkowski to lead them in a playoff race.

    And if someone can put down Ryan Fitzpatrick then the Texans would have to rely on Thadeus Lewis to guide them on a playoff hunt
