The Browns Board
46 24 1.9k
  • Yeah I'm going ahead with a few assumptions:

    1. The Browns aren't out of it until they lose.

    2. We are going to have suffer through a learning curve from Manziel in the process. That means turnovers and "hold your breath" kinds of moments.

    3. The defense has the ability to play with the best offenses in the NFL. They do that, despite everything else... The Browns have real post-season potential.

Regardless, I'd love to see a 10-6 season. I'd love to see some explosive offense from Manziel and company. i'd love to go into the draft next season with two picks again in the first round knowing who the QB is going to be and with one of the best defenses in the NFL. Use the draft to add some finish to the club instead of filling critical holes.

    I'm scared. But I'm excited!

  • We finish 3-0

We beat cincy, cincy loses to denver (cincy may be playing for a pipe dream birth against Pitt, probably will be eliminated by then though)

Steelers lose to cincy (losing to falcons would be ideal - battling for playoff spot lol, and a tough one against the chiefs)

    Ravens lose to us

That gets us the division, which isn't too far fetched.

Cincy really has to lose to Denver and beat Pitt (with nothing to play for). And of course, we need the 3-0 finish which automatically eliminates the ravens from AFCN title due to division record tie break.

Wild card birth is possible, but I think there will be two 10-6 teams over us that tie break

Of course, that piss team east is our biggest obstacle. They gotta lose 2 in a row (unlikely) or lose to cincy (also unlikely)

  • Even if they don't make the playoffs this year was a step in the right direction, and quite a refreshing change from years of 4-12 or 5-11.

  • OK, we're going to hope the Browns can win the last three, you enjoy Sundays at the Pottery Barn with the wife.

  • Let's face it, keeping Hoyer in the last few games dug us a hole. We are so much better than our record! So yes, I'm angry!

  • I say bring on any team if we make the playoffs. It is win or go home for everyone - all teams must prove who they are.

  • Two of the last three games are against Division teams. If we win all three and the Bengals lose to the Broncos next week and the Ravens/Steelers lose another game we could win the division.

Yup... Ravens are a non-factor, if we win out.

CIN and PTG must lose 2 each.

Division Champs is the clearest path... not to be confused with easiest...

Does anyone honestly see this playing out?

Hey, I'm still hoping for another win so we don't have a losing Season in I don't remember how long . . . 2007?

Definite progress made this year, and hopefully we'll be able to address some (hopefully all) of the holes that showed up this year.

If our D had come out of the gates playing like they have the past couple games (like they were supposed to), we'd be sitting in first place . . . that's what I call progress.

  • guys-he's still a rookie with far less experience than all those other struggling rookie QB's he came in with and is now 13 games behind. Winning 3 of 3 is asking a bit much, but showing some real promise, mistakes and all, is about the best we can expect this late in the season for a new QB in the NFL. Now if the D does what they did for Hoyer in all 3 of those games, then it is likely we win them all. But that was the best defensive effort in at least a decade. I know it was the right decision to give Hoyer one more chance, but damn JFF would have buried them with the field positions they kept delivering time after time.

Toughest one to win will be the ravens on the road.

We can do it, but odds are against it.

Say we do win the first 2, and lose a tough game to the Ravens and don't make the playoffs. We still have positives to build on for next year. These guys will be hungry for more (at least the ones that will be kept), and we've played in games that were like playoff games to a team like ours. This would still have bee a good productive building year, and mistakes that were made this year won't be made in the future. It's all good my friends. This has already been a good year, and the potential is still there to be even better.

    Ditto.

It's funny how the season changed- at the beginning of the season, the D was horrendous and the offense scored points. Now it seems the tide has turned.

We've had meaningful games in Nov-Dec for the first time in 7 years. The stadium is fun again.

I'm excited too. At the very least, win out. It may not bring a playoff berth, but maybe we knock the Ratbirds out.

If we win out, that's one loss for Cincy, plus Denver will beat them (playing for home field advantage in the playoffs). That's two for them.

It's less likely for the steelers, but it starts with a loss to the falcons, followed by KC. Or, if they lose to cincy, we win the division tie-breaker with them.

    Unlikely, but not impossible.

Turns out my bleary-eyed, playoff-scenario analysis was a tad off. I mean what were the chances of that @ 03:30... 😉

Cinci must lose two as they have a 1.5 game lead on us.

PTG, however, need only lose one, if that loss is to Cinci.

    Better? 🙂

Showing promise compared to Hoyer would be completing 60% of his throws and scoring a TD in 1 out of 15 drives. (I could say 1 out of 28 but that would still be awful). The bar has been set *THAT* low and yet the Browns staff reluctantly had to make the switch to Johnny. There are about 25 other QBs in the league that would have likely gotten the Browns to the playoffs with the D fielded each game.

Lets just hope they go 0-3, prefer them to eliminate themselves quick.

I'm under the impression that cinci isn't that good, despite their record. Their defense is surely not what it was (top 10 to bottom 10?), whether they blame losing Zimmer or injuries idk. Likewise their passing game is pretty putrid, despite their weapons. If they go into week 17 with nothing to play for (loss to CLE and DEN) I can't imagine they go into Heinz field and beat a PITT team that has a lot to play for if they split with ATL and KC.

If some of these 7 and 8 win teams don't finish with 10 wins (not division leaders), then cincy could have a chance to edge into a wild card spot with 9 wins thanks to their tie (And then lose 50-6 to the Colts).

Idk that piss team is just too big of a nuisance, we gotta assume we make it if we pull off 3-0

Baltimore can finish 10-6 as long as we beat them, would be nice to beat them back-to-back 😎

I wish I knew what happened to Brian.

Some guys talk about how his picks earlier this year were just dropped, not more so than what any other QB gets though IMO (maybe he has a couple more picks, but he went so long without throwing any it wouldn't have been too awful). Then they talk about the safety playing in the box killing the run game, but I don't buy into that too

Earlier this season, Brian had the longest streak of completions without a pick - they remained hopeful he was still that guy on a bad streak. But from what I saw, JFF camp must have paid weeden to go over pocket awareness drills w/ Hoyer and adjust his mechanics.

But yea, having a drive that goes longer than 3 plays would be a success over what we've seen lately. Johnny doesn't have to do much to be better.

The bar is really low. They said on NFL network this morning that in the last 3 games BH broke an all time Browns 3 game record in terms of touchdown passes vs. interceptions and a QB rating barely above 45 over the same period. They said it was not so much that JF won the position as BH lost it with the worst QB play in the league over that time period.

PS-they also said this was not really a fair situation for JM since the teams are all now in playoff mode and licking their chops over getting a rookie with no experience whatsoever. They expect moments of greatness punctuated with moments of rookie mistakes (pretty much what just about everyone here is expecting too). But overall they don't think he will be able to win yet.

So yes Tour- he needs all the help he can get from that D and the rest of the team if the Browns want to stay in the playoff picture.
