do you think before you post and say to yourself... this sounds like a sane, rational, person? I sure hope you're under 20. if not, yikes!

What did I say that's wrong?

  • Looks like none of Massachusetts is getting the game. Oh well there's always the highlight reels.

  • I cannot wait. Whether you like JFF or not he will put asses in the seats. More people will probably watch this game than any Browns game this year.

You're damn right more people will. I don't know a single Cleveland Browns fan in person and never have, but I know more people who are interested in this game than any other this weekend (Minus Pats/Dolphins of course...)

  • Yeah we hate the Yankees too.

Probably not as bad as you do but still...

I'm curious about which part of the link you are referring to that makes it count. Don't worry, I count them. 🙂

I noticed one part which stated this:

In 1948, the Browns became the first professional football team to complete an entire season undefeated and untied — 24 years before the 1972 Miami Dolphins of the NFL would accomplish the task, but this feat is not recognized by NFL record books. Unlike the AFL statistics which are treated as NFL statistics, records of the AAFC and its teams (most of which folded) are not recognized. However, individual AAFC player statistics are included in Pro Football Hall of Fame records, and the defunct conference is memorialized in the Hall.

    Seems contradictory to me.

Also, Packers and Bears have more championship wins, but they are NFC teams.

It is not contradictory. I have given this story before any number of times. It all comes down to the petty jealousy and resentment of one guy: Bert Bell Owner of the Philadelphia Eagles and NFL Commissioner at the time.

Recall that the AAFC started in 1946.

The AAFC was right off actually more popular than the NFL. It got bigger crowds. It paid its players more. It included black players where mostly the NFL would not.

Despite all this...the NFL looked down its nose at the AAFC....thinking it was superior. There was a proposal in both 1947 and 1948 to do a "World Series of Football" Game featuring the winner of the AAFC...the Browns and the winner of the NFL.....which in the case of 1948 was Bell's Eagles. Bell refused to have his team/league participate. While the AAFC was probably better, it was not as sound financially....and the domination by the Browns of that league actually turned people off....because who would win was a foregone conclusion.

So, the AAFC/NFL merger occurred for the 1950. Finally, Bert Bell and the Eagles could not avoid the Browns, which were one of 3-4 teams that merged with NFL teams or were taken in. Bell thought that his team was by far the superior and that he would show the upstart Browns by slaughtering them on opening day of the 1950 season. Well, yes, a slaughter did take place. The Browns spanked the Eagles like a red headed step child. Bell was embarassed at having boasted how much better the NFL and its teams were than the AAFC and the Browns......but of course they were not better. The Browns were the superior force in football....going on to appear in 6 of the next 7 NFL title games. But due to Bells' bitterness and resentment over that loss of prestige for his team and himself, he still had the power to issue edicts concerning certain matters pertaining to league business. So he declared that the AAFC records and statistics would not be recognized.....and no commish to this date has had the balls to overturn that decision. But that is what the is all about.

The Browns would have and did kill every NFL champ in the 1946-1950 period. The only team that would have been a good match and might have had a chance to beat the Browns were the 1946 Bears. The 1947 Cards and the 1948/49 Eagles would have been chum for the Browns. Bell knew that as well....and did the only thing in his power to fuel his resentful and bitter attitude.

I chopped out the rest just to keep the post short.

Wow, learned something new. The biggest problem I see here is a team owner should never be allowed to be Commissioner. You all might say it is what it is, but going by this account I'm with Gip. It's bullshit and I count 'em.

Good to hear, always friends with a Yankee hater!

  • And here I am in North Carolina stuck with the barn-burner of Carolina vs Tampa Bay. I get it but damn. At least I get to see them live next week!

  • Growing up in my family, the Yankees are the Steelers of baseball. Most hated more than any other team.

  • The only people allowed to like the Yankees are people actually from New York. Growing up all these kids who were born and raised in Boston started wearing Yankees hats in high school to be "rebels" and the ones who didn't get pummeled were extremely lucky.

  • I hope he thrives on the pressure and attention. Would be nice to have a guy that has the ultimate clutch. Does better and better when the stakes are higher and higher.

    Go Browns!

  • You know, regardless of wether he turns out to be a star or a complete bust, Johnny F. does have a certain effect that is hard to describe. I am a Patriots fan and the only reason I joined this board was to pipe in on the Johnny Football thread, and I ended up enjoying this site far more than the Patriots fan forum... probably because most Patriots fans are stubborn rude conceited a-holes who refuse to have a legitimate conversation or difference of opinion without arguing.

  • There's all kinds I guess. I used to work with a guy that was born and raised in Youngstown Ohio. He's a Browns/Yankees fan. Said his father raised him that way. I said WTF...just doesn't make any sense to me.

Lol. Now that's amusing. Stick around, maybe we'll convert you. 😉 Or at least make the Browns your secondary team.

  • Seriously, take a gander at this site if you're interested- http://www.patsfans.com/new-england-patriots/messageboard/forums/patsfans-com-patriots-fan-forum.10/

The amount of bickering, bitching and idiocracy has driven me from it and I used to love posting there. I've been logging on here instead the past two days.

  • I know a guy from Texas who is a Dallas Cowboys/NY Yankees fan... I think alot of people like that are simply bandwagon fans who followed the Yankees for years simply because they were consistently a good ball team.

  • Hope jff doesnt shit the bed on national exposure. think some people are watching to see something great or a train wreck. i got my beer ready for either one.

Just out of curiosity... Same beer or two different brands?

    @hoorta said:

Yeah- no comprendo- the AFC Games should be on CBS, & NFC games on FOX. It's long been the rule the visiting teams Conference affiliation picks up the broadcast- at least on Sunday afternoon games.

It's the flexi thing... although I saw a different term for it that I've already forgotten.

This should show that Johnny is more than just another college football player. He is a phenomenon.

I wonder what percentage of viewers will be pulling to see Johnny "NFL Football" vs. Johnny "NFL Failball"?

    Go Browns...

  • This should show that Johnny is more than just another college football player. He is a phenomenon.

Of course, like Tebow, he will flame out if he doesn't play well. I think he will.

Here's to 10-15 years of must-see Browns TV.

I think most people are aware that the media can't get enough of Johnny. Regardless of the your stance on the kid, the extra Browns coverage will be a plus. I think we got scheduled for 5 primetime games the year following our Tebow year because of that. Full disclosure, I am also an Aggie, but I am not here to tell you how lucky you are to have him because of how good he was in college. I have seen way too many stars in college bust in the NFL to claim to know how good he might be.
