In Manziels defense Peyton Manning would have gotten pin holed out there today. Look Johnny made a lot of bad throws not under duress...but the whole game he was running for his life. Carlos Dunlap invited himself to virtually ever handoff party between Manziel and our RB's. Fucking ridiculous o line.

We've got seriously the worst fans ever. Myself included. We turn on people so goddamn quickly. I think this game showed Hoyer was far from failing on his own. That being said at least Johnny didn't throw everyone else under the bus at his post game presser.

Hey MANZIEL SUCKS, MANZIEL SUCKS!!!! Happy now? Just kidding.

I don't think there are any excuses.
I do notice a similar trend with those that wanted Johnny starting from the get go. Said people were very quick to point out that everything on offense was Hoyer's fault.
Now with Johnny not finding success, they have no issue saying that it wasn't all on Manziel. Which of course more level-headed people have been saying for some time.
The issues of this offense go beyond the QB position. However they were very much highlighted for the worse with Mr Football under center.
See below.

RE: Manning- I doubt it. So who was making the line calls and check offs? We don't know. If Johnny could see (twice at least ) he had an uncounted for defender ready to kill him, and didn't change the play- well that's on him.

I saw Johnny having a hard time discerning where the seams were.. he held on to the ball like.. forever.. He looked overwhelmed and he looked awful...

Johnny was terrible, much worse than I thought he would be. Lots to work on.

Bingo. Every time we lose some idiot calls for the entire offensive line to be traded, the head coach to be fired, the QB to benched, the water boys to be tarred and feathered, the owner to be jailed, and blah blah blah. Suck it up and support your team. Rome wasn't built in a day. Some of you would all rather throw out any progress we made since last year because of one loss. It's no wonder we are rebuilding every damn year.

Players respect Manning. He doesn't provide them extra motivation to rip his head off. Johnny has no respect (doesn't deserve it and hasn't earned it) and players have some extra motivation to show the millionaires son a piece of humble pie.
Don't give me this shit its the NFL they play hard all the time, this little shit head definitely gives opposing teams some extra motivation to make him eat dirt. Until he stops acting like a spoiled brat or earns some respect, it'll be the same.

Okay....Manziel sucked yesterday...but I gave Hoyer 12 -1/2 games before I started wishing Manziel would come in. Johnny needs to get time to develop. Also...keep in mind Pettine is a rookie too, and did not really do a great job yesterday. Personally, I have no preference who qb's the team....I just want a competent guy out there. The biggest mystery to me is this....if all the other players supported the switch to Manziel, and they were positive going into this game...then why did the entire team play so pathetic? Keep in mind.... this was the Bengals....not the Broncos. I really hope the coaching staff figures this out quick, because Haslam is not a patient man, and I really like Pettine. I would hate to see a new HC search.

Are you pleased he was so bad then? i wonder sometimes if people on here actually want us to succeed
No shit London. Are you pleased he was so bad then? i wonder sometimes if people on here actually want us to succeed
It's sounding like a bunch of Ben-galss fans blowing jizz all over each other.

Alright, I didn't want to make a new thread but I really sat there watching the Eagles game last night and thought over the game. Before anyone goes ape-shit, Manziel sucked. I'm not saying in any way shape or form he didn't. But here are some things I'm considering and what I'm hoping for moving forward.
-Manziel got humiliated between the money signs and media attention. Hell ESPN this morning a "mocking manziel" counter this morning (it was 6 I think). Honestly, I think that may turn out to be a good thing. Manziel got shocked into the NFL yesterday. It sucks, but perhaps it was the wake-up he and others needed to move forward. Manziel to realize he's not God's gift to the world, and Shanahan to realize the read-option nonsense doesn't work as more than a facet of a pro offense.
-The mistakes, and most noticeably the interceptions, were classic "rookie" mistakes to make. With all the media crap I know I almost forgot it was the dude's first start. Forced throw across his body and a late throw are mistakes he can learn from. I actually think being on the road may be a good thing this upcoming week.
-He's 22 years old. I'm not using that as an excuse, but I'm just throwing that up there as a stated fact.
-He did show a few flashes of what he brings to the table. Three drops didn't help his cause but twice he made a good decision to throw instead of run (both dropped).
Lastly, there's literally nowhere to go but up from here. If someone is going to play that badly, it's hopefully in their first start. It's discouraging, but that's my 2 cents.

I don't see nearly as many Aggies fans here now.
Anyway, yesterday's performance was obviously NOT what anyone wanted from Johnny boy. I don't really think there are any excuses. Hoyer wouldn't have won the game either, the team as a whole did not have a good day. However I'm not using that as an excuse by any means. Late decisions, bad decisions, bad throws, you name it. He f$^%ed the goose, big time.
But it was his first NFL start. If he was on the Pats, I could hear all the Bostonians now screaming about how his career is over and they should trade him now. I don't think so, because he hasn't had a chance to get his feet wet with real NFL football. Now he knows what it's like to get your ass handed to you so I guess that's a good "Welcome to the NFL" message. Maybe the rest of this year he can just work on improving plays in real-game situations.

Yeah no Hoyer would not have given us anything in this game.
Not even glimpses of competence in the Offense? A hint of a drive?
Not even glimpses of competence in the Offense? A hint of a drive?
Not even a hint. Why would that have changed when he has even less ability to escape defenders trying to take the handoff? And he had a real defense last weekend, but would not have had any this weekend any more than JF. Same exact outcome. This was a team effort at total failure of the trenches both sides of the ball. When you do your line grading this week it will show the data back up the statement.
I said consistently that I hoped they played Hoyer on out because giving a rookie the ball when it's playoff gear-up time with 13 games less experience than the starter was just not going to be a fair measure. Once they made the change I totally support the player, but hindsight says my first instinct was right. Just look what happened early in the season to all the other QB's taken in his class when playoffs were not yet on the line.
The hard question for Pettine now is where to go from here. Do you leave him in to learn from mistakes or do you tell him we start over next summer and place it on yourself as coach?

This game will test Manziel's character. If he's strong, he will forget about it and come back ready to win in Carolina. I've seen other rookie qb's have their confidence ruined just by playing for the Browns (Couch, Weeden, Frye, etc.)

Weeden took a crap his first game too and put up a measley 5.1 qbr, then came back his second week and improved to a 114 qbr.
If brandon can do it, then JFF can do it. Cmon Manziel, show us you can do better than weeden!!!

JM's confidence seems to be stronger than the rest of those guys you listed. (Or will he end up being just arrogant and delusional? Time will tell.)

Well... it seems that Broadway Flop Johnny wasn't ready for primetime.
I could dismiss that easily, if they had thrown him into the fire early on.
Johnny has been too busy being Broadway, when he should have taken this
opportunity to WORK at being successful, instead of partying around all this time,
and planning on running around, and just making defenses look silly eventually,
after running around like Fran Tarkenton - when Tarkenton was ten years old,
playing football with friends in his backyard.
Manziel said it himself - he played poorly his first year and a half in college.
I figure he could have cut that to six months if he had not been Broadway Johnny in
his own mind.
Of course, his receiver Hawkins didn't have his head in the game, and the Bengals
were really po'd at being embarrassed by the Browns at their home field...

with how bad the o line played, the d got gashed, no help to manziel came at all.
A rookie qb will not single hadnedly win you games when the entire rest of the team gives in.
Drops, pressure all day, the whole offense struggled -
Why did Johnny chuckle and smile after getting hit by defenders and seeing the money sign thrown at the fans and in his face. I thought he was the type of guy to bring up teammates and get in their face for missed assignments, etc.
