What sucks is Bal is more competition for the Browns also looking for an OC... I bet most OCs want to go to Bal.

    Not most ... every.

    Zombo

  • and shanny jr. to ATL as OC.

  • Kubiak really did well with the Ravens offense this season and they will miss him if they miss on hiring an OC. Let's hope for the best in that regard!

Well, they have a fairly proven QB.....obviously proven.......the Browns do not. But I still think it possible they promote Dennison from within.

  • Kubiak and Elway, they go back as bud's a long time. Fox stayed out of the Offense and Left it to Case and Manning. And this is really where I don't know how Good Case is due to Manning could walk to the line and call anything Peyton see's. If David Cuttcliff (at Duke), Peyton's real QB coach can solve arm issue, I can see a power issue with Elway and Kubiak Vs. Manning and Case. Really think Elway is moving away from Manning [as what I've read, but did not believe} and Case is in Limbo.

  • I'm to the point I don't give a shit who they hire anymore.. Until we get a QB.. We will still be also ran's chasing a wet noodle and still trying to piss into the wind..

We seem to be at the same point

  • well there's also trestman and cavanaugh still out there.

If we really wanted Trestman that badly- he'd already be hired.

So if it's all about the quarterback who cares who is OC?

  • You'll notice that everyone is hiring people- except for who else. The Browns. We will get sloppy seconds.

I'm not crying over any that got away so far. There is still a mix of proven talent and up-and-coming promise available. As pointed out above, we may well be leaning towards the latter in the form of OAK's QB Coach, DeFilippo, and I'd be fine with that.

The proven-talent route did not end well this past year.

  • What...no comments that Baltimore is completely dysfunctional because their OC left??

  • No they are talking Mike Martz.....oi.

It is a team game.....and coaches are part of the team....and it helps that the QB and OC are on the same page. A bad OC can fuck up a good QB I suspect. A good QB may possibly make a bad QB mediocre and a mediocre QB look good.

But it seems to me your position has been that many of the most successful teams actually suck, and their coaches suck except for the fact that they have a great quarterback. So again why in the world when we want an offensive coordinator from a team that has a great quarterback? It would seem they had little or nothing to do with the success of the team, no?

(so Pittsburgh Baltimore New England Denver Dallas New Orleans Seattle Green Bay Indianapolis etc should be the last place we look for OC.)

    WSS

  • It seems like, for a lot of folks, if you're associated with a great team...no matter what you are, coach, player, GM....then you are GREAT!

And, if you are associated with a bad team(unless you''re SPECTACULAR), then if you are a coach, player or GM....you SUCK BALLS!!

I sometimes think there are GM's that think greatness actually rubs off.....hahaha....

  • You never know Mudfly. Sometimes I think some of Hoyer's success was his years as back up to Brady?

I get what your saying though.

  • Yeah... I would agree that being in that environment for a long time would help him develop....but he certainly isnt great or tom brady....and mallet is getting the same treatment....so, yes, players cut from good teams get more looks for sure...

More what Im saying is that good players(on GREAT teams) get elevated to great status. But when they find themselves on a bad team or another team(with that huge contract and expectations), all of a sudden they become average again........and that goes for coaches too...

Where are you getting that? Anyone can tell you that it is far far better for a good coach to have a good QB. Some good coaches can do pretty well without a great QB....but I would rather have the QB.

I suspect you are talking about BB and Brady......Yes, I would rather have Brady than BB.

That does not mean that BB sucks. If he had a decent QB, like he did here when he had Vinny he could coach a team to the playoffs likely.

But.....only because he has had a great QB has he done as well as he has....coached a team to the great heights that he has. In his career he has coached a team to the playoffs once when he did not have Brady at QB. That was the year here with Vinny.

So again why in the world when we want an offensive coordinator from a team that has a great quarterback? It would seem they had little or nothing to do with the success of the team, no?

You still have to have a system in place....ESPECIALLY if you DON"T have a great QB. The Browns don't....in case you didn't notice.

(so Pittsburgh Baltimore New England Denver Dallas New Orleans Seattle Green Bay Indianapolis etc should be the last place we look for OC.)

    Maybe, maybe not.

  • I wasn't even thinking of Vinny. Just some of the arguments you make about ready be more important than the head coach and there for the rest of the team.

I do take the position that its the team first. But this particular conversation just has to do with what mud said about hiring coaches or players because of their association with a winning program. It would be like hiring Bill Wyman to play base and wondering why your band isn't as popular as the Rolling Stones.

I guess a good comparison could be Paul Brown and Otto Graham. Paul Brown.....a genius no doubt......but what did he do when he didn't have OG at QB? First 10 years.....10 Championship game appearances, 7 wins. Next 7 years....2 playoff appearances, no wins.
