  • As long as we are playing Monday morning psychologist, I don't think he's an alcoholic. I think he's a young kid that drinks a lot like many many young kids I knew when I was 22, 23, 24 etc. Playing in a rock and roll band. First of all he's probably unrealistically confident. He believes that his God given ability will let him plows through anything. The people around him? Those are going to be people who think he's the coolest guy in the world and will likely not scold him.

Reading the very same article that blasted him for being unprepared you will also see that he is popular among his team-mates. Those who know him seemed to believe he has ability. What I would hope is for two things. First that this flood of bad publicity is a wake up call and a challenge and he sets his mind to overcoming it. Second I would hope the coaching staff does what they can and need to do to get him ready to play in the NFL. I don't know if that means tailoring an offense toward his capabilities but remember that's one of the reasons many of you hated Bill Belichick. Kosar didn't like to play the style of our fence Belichek asked of him. Phil savage said in essence the same thing. I'm hoping coach Mike is a little bit flexible and demanding.

Hopefully being seen in the national media as an asshole instead of a rockstar will have an effect on Johnny. I'm rooting for him now and hope he succeeds but if he doesn't I won't carry a lifetime grudge.

  • I'm thinkin he has a drinking problem...and who can expect him to

all of a sudden, get rid of that, change his party personality to a work

hard all day and night long personality, and stop saying stuff that sounds

good, then not backing it up.....

personally, I don't expect him to make the turnaround. Very sad. I guess the

qb coach figured if his coaching failed, it wouldn't be his fault, it would be Johnny's.

Include him in a trade with somebody and let them wait for three years for this knucklehed to get it.

I don't have a drinking problem. Fall down, get back up, no problem.

  • I don't see how it's "he's just a young rock star type of kid"...

he's missed meetings, left Peyton Mannings qb camp, been

    late too often, missed therapy.

all the while, he says the right things, and acts like he means it.

That is very telling, the conflict between his self-destructive actions,

    and his words.

I mean, Browns security had to go find him, and he was "drunk on his ass" ???

    Come on, man.

    http://www.rotoworld.com/recent/nfl/9271/johnny-manziel

One player called Manziel a "100 percent joke." Team security reportedly found Manziel "drunk off his a--" the morning before the Browns' season finale. He was fined for missing a treatment for his injured hamstring and spent the Week 17 loss to Baltimore in Cleveland's locker room. During his first NFL start, "Several sources said Manziel either didn't know the plays in the huddle or didn't call them correctly." Sources also told Fowler and McManamon that since-departed OC Kyle Shanahan preferred Jimmy Garoppolo and Tom Savage to Manziel as a 2014 draft prospect. Fowler and McManamon claim Manziel still has some "support in the (Browns') building," though it's mostly "on the business side."

  • See that? If true, Shanny wanted Garopollo.

Stupid ass Loggains - I guess he wanted Manziel to

enable him to find some babes who would hang out

    with him, too.

It's Sunday here... and I agree... similar take to mine.

For once you got it right... 😉

  • I'm really confused on any hard evidence any of you have that Manziel has a drinking problem. Jesus if someone was taking pictures of every time I was drinking in bars and clubs at 22 you all would have said I was an alcoholic bum. The guy has an attitude problem, that's for sure but let's not get ahead of ourselves.

  • In part it's pattern, jrb, but the report of him being awakened prior to the Week 17 road trip not just "hungover", but still "drunk on his ass" is both alarming and reinforces concerns attributed to his Dad about JM drinking.

Its not a question of how often, when , age etc. It is a question on how you allow it to impact your life. I will take a wild guess you may have prioriotized the playbook over the bar if you had had the opportunity to earn millions when you were 22. maybe not...........

I don't know, I think that's a lot more to do with having an "I'm better than the rules" attitude than a drinking problem. Again, I woke up many times still drunk off my ass when I was 22. However, that was on a Saturday night into Sunday where I knew all I had to do was lie in bed. I really believe the problem with Manziel is that he thinks he can do what he wants with no repercussions. I think the Browns are showing he can't.

  • Could well be a "phase"... but if it is, it should be ending as we type.

As I mentioned in another thread, haven't heard anything since Aspen (which was no big deal) so maybe the maturation has commenced.

  • Brady's Ball Sack said:

I thought he has a shot with his mobility. I didn't see enough of him in college to see his undisciplined brain and the total lack of ability to read the most basic of defenses.

Pretty much nailed it for why most folks wanted this idiot. They never really watched him play and understood his style of play at the collegian level. It simply don't work in the PROS.

  • BEST quote ever...

"As one player put it, Manziel throughout the entire 2014 season was a "100 percent joke." 😆

How the FOCK did we let a guy like LOGGAIN influence one of the biggest DECISION EVER for this franchise??!?!?!

    Give us a fock'n break. Alcoholic…drink a lot…party a lot…disregard responsibilities…yada yada yada.

    All the same chit.

Read what his teammates say about him. Worries about nightclubs than the game.

"It's uncertain how much coaches collected from Manziel, but one source said Manziel was late often enough that it was never a surprise when he was."

  • I don't know why the Browns didn't put Manziel on a short leash earlier but he is on one now and he deserves it. Haslam, Farmer, Pettine and Manziel's own team mates have made it clear his behavior is not acceptable and won't be tolerated.

  • VesnaKociper said:

is my total disbelief at how many fans here are really incapable to posting a fucking original thought....

Johnny Manziel .. can't play. He fuck's off because he can't play.

Manziel IS A BUST. He was a fucking bust when Haslam forced the drafting of him.

    Now THATS original....yer fukkin brilliant

    • Get rid of Cribbs 3 years before we did, when he still could fool people into thinking he was more than shit.....and he was, at his best, SHIT.

Yet.....the Browns probably should have signed him back this year.....as he was better than anything we had at returning kicks.

  • So I've been thinking about this a lot lately, and hearing Adam Caplan on CBD reinforce the idea that Haslam is responsible for the Manziel pick cemented this opinion even more.

We all know Manziel sucked last year. So who should get the blame for him being on the team? If you think it's Pettine or Farmer, the answer would be no. Farmer wanted Bridgewater but was pressured into trading up to take Manziel. So the person who shoulders the blame for Manziel is Haslam.

So if Haslam has a shred of integrity, he won't not fire Pettine or Farmer because he is the one who put them in this hole. So if Manziel fails, Pettine's job is safe. If Manziel succeeds, then the Browns are winning and his job is guaranteed.

This gives me a bit of hope for continuity for the Browns which I hope leads to winning.

  • I think he did well enough pre-major injuries to justify staying at least that long regardless of the JM pick.

  • Ahhh....no.

Doesn't work like that in the real world.

There's such a thing as "the fall guy".

If the Browns win less than 5 games next year. He's a goner.
