What receiver do we go after in draft/FA?

  • .. or not have a true #1.

What has been said that gives any indication Farmer values WRs high enough to spend a 1?

What about last season indicated that a #1 was important to our offense?

    Step 1: Resign Austin

    Step 2: Sign Shorts

Step 3: see what value falls to us in the draft.

  • I like Justin Hardy from ECU, he's the NCAA all time leader in receptions and he lit up the Senior Bowl.

  • Free Agent options: Cecil Shorts, Jeremy Maclin, Michael Crabtree, Torrey Smith, Randall Cobb, Michael Crabtree, Denarious Thomas,

Draft options: Amari Cooper, Devante Parker, Kevin White, Sammy Coates, Justin Hardy, Jaelen Strong, Devin Smith, Ty Montgomery, Nelson Algalor, Rashad Greene...

    Who do you want?

Cobb would be a nice addition to any team. GB has had a decent history of resigning the guys they really want. See Jordy Nelson last year.

The Packers also appear to have a culture where distractions are not tolerated and players tend to conform to expectations of a professional athlete.

They are also used to cold weather football.

If available, I like the Browns to get him. If this happens, however, it doesn't mean that WR stops being a priority. Still a priority but not so much of an emergency.

    This scenario works for me.

  • Cobb

    and then draft someone

  • green-beckham

  • we're not drafting high enough this year to take Amari or any other receiver worthy of a 1st round pick. Gotta get one of these FA wr's. Crabtree would be "awesome" as would Thomas. Thomas though I would see being non committal till he knows who's gonna throw to him. He's been in a Manning run offense now so he's going to have high expectations. Crabtree will just come for the money. I don't think we go WR in the 1st round this year, last year yeah we should have...this year though too many other needs opened up.

  • I would like to see Devante Parker in a Browns jersey

  • I would be good with shorts and-or crabtree. both are in our price range and would fit in well.

  • I would love to have Paul Warfield back in his prime.. He was simply the best at his position besides Jerry Rice... I'm to the point I'm getting sick of the Browns.. This shit needs to stop.

  • Kevin White WVA. Phillip Dorsett Miami,Vince Mayle Wash.St.,Antawn Goodley Baylor and one of these would work. The receivers in this draft seems to be pretty deep.Resign Miles Austin.

  • Lockett from KSt will be the wr steal in this draft. Watch how he comes along with whomever gets him. I hope it's us around Rd 3-4. He was the heart of that team this year.

  • We need to get a decent FA pickup and not dig through the bargain bin like last year.

I agree with you there. He seems to be one of those guys who everyone says "does everything well but nothing great" arguments.

  • Free Agent options: Cecil Shorts, Jeremy Maclin, Michael Crabtree, Torrey Smith, Randall Cobb, Michael Crabtree, Denarious Thomas,

Draft options: Amari Cooper, Devante Parker, Kevin White, Sammy Coates, Justin Hardy, Jaelen Strong, Devin Smith, Ty Montgomery, Nelson Algalor, Rashad Greene...

Torrey Smith fills three needs: a decent WR, a decent returner....and it weakens Baltimore

Draft options: Amari Cooper, Devante Parker, Kevin White, Sammy Coates, Justin Hardy, Jaelen Strong, Devin Smith, Ty Montgomery, Nelson Algalor, Rashad Greene...

Cooper won't be an option. He will be gone. Any one of the others could be possibles in the first couple of rounds.

    Who do you want?

  • as a wvu fan I say kevin white he hasn't gotten into trouble and improved a lot this yr

  • T. Smith and R. Cobb.

Smith with the deep routes and Cobb with all the underneath stuff.

    Ya, that would be hot.

Now, all we need is a QB.

Looking to last year has nothing to do with this year. Different coordinator, different philosophies.

Shanahan's system didn't place value in a true #1 receiver. Flip comes from a little more of a ground game/vertical attack background.

Flip took over for one year as an OC at San Jose State. Under Flip, the San Jose State offense jumped 32 spots in offensive rankings. But what's more interesting is that, in the two years prior to Flip taking over, no WR nabbed more than 60 catches for the year. Then, in Flip's first year, Grigsby hauls in 90 catches for nearly 900 yards.

Obviously, it's hard to gauge exactly how much of that is due to Flip and how much is due to having a solid receiver (Grigsby went on to nab another 90 the following season).

However, it does seem to suggest that there is a solid chance they'll be looking for a more traditional #1, especially with Gordon almost certainly on the way out.

  • Quite possible, TC, but Flip made a point to emphasize a continuation of established WCO/ZBS principles in his intro presser... not to exclusion of any change, but in the "by and large" sense.

  • Free Agent options: Cecil Shorts, Jeremy Maclin, Michael Crabtree, Torrey Smith, Randall Cobb, Michael Crabtree, Denarious Thomas,

i think if any of those fa even hear the word browns by their agents, they will all be fired...no one in their right mind would want to come to this pos organization..me thinks those guys want to win a championship...not be a cellar dweller
