Jonathan Paul Manziel

Pretty decent Mary Kay article on it.
-
Cut Manziel. Go apologize to Hoyer and try to get him signed.
-
Alcohol addiction is a terrible thing. Rich or poor, it can hit so many.
Who doesn't have a friend or acquaintance over the years, that has
been affected by alcoholism, if not personally been affected?
So sad. Good luck to Manziel - I really hope he can get himself straightened out.
-
I bet he's already in nfl substance abuse program. but because of confidentiality it hasn't been reported yet
-
Yeah that sounds like a reasonable explanation. That he has been in the NFL substance abuse program all season long and nobody from the media reported it. That's probably it.

No, he was properly recently put in the program..
-
skip bayless is such a prude that anyone drinking a beer is an alcoholic to him.

There Seems to be quite a few people on this board that are pretty knowledgable about rehabs. I didn't realize I was in the company of so many mental health professionals.
-
You can go to the finest rehabilitation center in the world. Bottom line is you HAVE TO WANT to quit. No one is going to make you quit.
At some point yes to stay sober you have to want it for yourself. I will say however there are those who went into rehab for all the "wrong" reasons that it helped. Sometimes although they don't intend to change they see or hear something amongst a their "peers" that turns on the lightbulb. You can go to the finest rehabilitation center in the world. I think there are some guys who have worked in and around the field. I have but in a very tiny way and many many years ago. I also think some of us have experience with others who have been through detox or rehab or Alcoholics Anonymous. There are lots of different angles and reasons to attend.

And again is there no automatic suspension once a player has tested positive?

No. Stage one only gets a fine and is anonymous. So we wouldnt know about any player until he has a second fail.

As some have said this is just the first step, albeit the most important. You can't turn you life around until you look in the mirror and admit it needs turning around.
This guy is more of a fighter than most here give credit for. He will learn a lot and be given a lot of tools to continue the process AFTER rehab. This is a good thing for him and the Browns.
He has far more skills than most here realize as a QB or the front office would have closed the door long ago. I tend to rely on folks like Haden and Dansby to tell me that rather than internet web site members who have not been at practices against him every day to give me an informed opinion.

Return of the maroon tinted glasses... let's hope they are justified this time.

That was the policy for the first "fail". I was not sure it was still in effect after the recent changes.

Texas Ag is a retired counselor- he knows what he's talking about. Me? Not mental health, but I've been in the medical (laboratory) field for 40 years. So I humbly submit I know a thing or two about drug testing and the physical and mental effects of drugs. FWIW, alcohol IS a drug.
Add in, by brother has been in AA for over 30 years- still clean- so I know the signs when someone is starting to lose control. As he says, "one is too many, and ten isn't enough". When you get to that point- you have a problem. That's the primary difference between a social drinker, and an alcoholic- you don't, or can't know when to say "When".
