I have the Veterans Choice card. Contrary to popular belief, this is not a card that lets me go to any civilian medical center because I don't feel like going to the VA. You must be pre approved to utilize it. In other words, if my VA PCP deems it necessary for me to be seen ASAP, but I can't get any appointment (unlikely) with the VA, then she can pre authorize my visit for this particular condition. If you have a sickness that needs to be seen and don't have your PCP approval, you have to call a 1-866 number to request approval. Not sure how that works as I have never utilized it.
Politicians are once again using veterans as a ploy for the news.
