excellent idea. As I've said before, however, I think every American should have positive identification backed up by DNA and retinal scan, all issued by the federal government. At least that way no one can cry that they are too poor do have an identification card...

You shouldn't be able to force people to present ID for things like voting and food stamps etc...*unless* the ID is issued centrally for free. I'm renewing my passport currently, it costs about £100. Ridiculous, but I'll pay it anyway because I travel - if I'm on food stamps, maybe it's not something I consider a necessity.

A passport or food to eat????

  • You can't get a bank account, buy cigarettes/booze, enter a bar, etc. without a photo ID. You can't tell me that people go without an ID for any of those things but still have proper documentation to even receive government assistance.

You should have to present ID to vote and to use the food stamp card. Voter fraud is a big issue in the coal field counties in WV every election.

  • The ultra left wing liberals amaze me with their stupidity.

  • Well, I'm still for a weighted voting system. Require an exam both you vote. Topics like include US History, World History, current events, how our govt works, some math and science, etc. The higher you score the more your vote counts.

Make study material and practice exams free for the public. Put them in public libraries and places like that.

    Liberal enough for ya?

  • Woody, your suggestion would make every politician cringe.

I am no Constitutional Lawyer but I doubt this passes any sniff test.

Personally, I would vote against it.

  • Oh its probably not constitutional at all. Plus it would require a lot of groundwork to make it fair and viable.

  • I'd be ok with Willard M. Romney's 47% not being able to vote in Federal Elections.

Do you mean the Contstitution as originally not totally ratified, using original intent?

Or what the Constitution "says" after 227 years of SCOTUS interpretations?

That would hurt minority voters worse than any ID check ever could.

Poor minorities aren't the only group of ill informed voters. I'd imagine dome rednecks down south could give them a run for their lack of money

  • That picture id is a good idea and should cut down on a lot of fraud however there are ways around that. I used to work with a guy who was a scammer and a hustler. He told me him and his wife would go to the grocery store and spend about $200 on an order. Before they checked out, he would call this crack whore up who would come to the store and meet him. They would check out using her food stamps. ($200 worth). When they got outside He would give the whore $100 for the food.

    What a scam.

    Fair enough IMO.

Eliminate the bottom 40% of citizens and Obama never leaves Chicago.

Not at all woody. As a matter of fact the academic class seems to lean to the left. I would say that even though there are plenty of morons on the right a big and monolithic block of the Democratic voters are the poor African American and Hispanic community. The stupid hillbillies, or as logic can tell you pillbillies, are not so universally right wing. The do include a fair amount of racist idiots but also a big big bunch who hate the Republicans who would suggest cutting down on welfare benefits and disability approval.

(and as much as the man made global warming debate makes you feel superior, hardly anybody cares. Sorry.)

You make it sound convincing with that inane statement Woodley.

Both sides have less intelligent members ..it's just that the left has way more of them.

Liberals do have members that are smart, academia for example...but they have zero wisdom.

Being smart and having wisdom are two different things.

    You have no wisdom Woodley.

  • That sounds like something someone who isn't smart would say...
