The Browns Board

  • For the first time in ever I don't even care what the browns do or don't do in free agency. I don't care who they put on the field. I don't care who they draft. I'm not sure I can bear spending 16 weeks in my favorite time of the year sitting in front of the television watching this train wreck. They have to win me back now and not on draft day or in press conferences. On the field.

    ...

    ...

    Thank god for the buckeyes.

  • Hard to fault you, and I doubt you're alone. Some will say you're being negative, but I am not one of them.

  • I'll always love the browns but man they're hard to support at the moment.

  • I will be the first to admit I don't follow football like some here. I just have been a fan for almost 50 years. What I do know are people, working with people has been my career. I know what negativity can do to a business or an individual. There is a negative mindset in Cleveland that is only destructive. One quick example, the Packers this year. The way they blew that playoff game was worse than the Browns "the drive" or "the fumble" but I just don't seem them wallowing in self pity for decades over it or speaking some nonsense of being cursed but just reloading and going forward. The past is over. The only thing to do with the past is learn from your mistakes going forward. I want to see the Browns identify past mistakes and stop repeating them. The first thing that comes to mind is continuity. Constantly tearing down a foundation being built. Put good people in place and give them some time. We have a good HC by all accounts. Give him some time.

  • None of that has anything to do with me. Give me one reason browns. Give me one reason to stay here and I'll turn right back around...

  • There is nothing new under the sun. The Bengals went through 12 years of losing seasons and I saw the same things happen to them that are going on with the Browns now (complaints they were dysfuntional, toxic, who would want to go there, etc..). What changed for the Bengals is that they finally got a good HC. Lewis made them competitive in his first year much like we saw Pettine do this year with the Browns. The Bengals were competitive the following year and in year 3 they made the playoffs. My positive outlook right now is I do believe we have finally gotten ourselves a good HC in Pettine.

  • I can give you a couple: 1) we went from 4 wins to 7 this year. 2) we have more quality on the roster - forget the first round of the draft, we picked up a couple of quality guys in the draft, a few more UDFA, and a few more in FA . 3) we have an owner that wants to bring Cleveland a winning team - he hates what's happened and hasn't worn rose-colored glasses or drank koolaid once (yes, he's also made mistakes). 4) we've got a great young coach and GM. They are also learning and making mistakes but I like what I see and I think they'll get better. 5) we don't have a franchise QB. That's both a problem and a solution. If we did, it would be harder to figure out the one thing that can make us perennial playoff contenders. 6) if you give up now, you won't be able to say that you never waiverd from rooting for the Browns when they do win!

I agree but I was not happy with the owner raising the ticket prices. I think of a young friend of mine who works as a clerk at a store who probably doesn't make more than minimum wage. It already is a huge strain on his budget going to the games. I would like to think the Browns org. take this into consideration and only raise ticket prices when they absolutely have to. JMO

  • See you at the start of Free Agency

All Browns addicts here. No one is fooling anyone. Can hardly wait for free agency to see how the Browns's long term plan is set into motion.

And if you really are apathetic then here is a little light research to give you something to ponder instead of following the Browns.

  • It reminds me of those people constantly saying "I don't care what other people think". They do. They just want to hear validation from other people.

You're in this bitch for life, there is no escaping. You don't get to cower off when things are shitty and scamper back when they pick up. That's bitch made.

I can GARUN-FUCKING-TEE you'll be glued to the TV come draft night.

  • Things got shitty a long long time ago and I stuck by them. It's now so shitty and so long that I just can't even put forth the effort to be upset by it anymore.

  • In reality we are just going a long for the ride. The Browns org. will do what they want, when they want and how they want. I just would to see them make wise decisions, learn from past mistakes and do the best they can to put a winning team on the field. I think they are doing that so they have my support.

Now that I know the evolution of finches I can die a happy man. πŸ™‚

  • I just can't get excited about this thread...

  • Haven't been around for a while. Been taking a much needed hiatus from this shit show of an organization. It's been refreshing.

I was born and raised a Browns fan. I live in Columbus surrounded by Bengals and Steeler fans, but I have never once even considered giving up my beloved Browns....until now. We've gone into many an off season since the return with not much hope for the next year, but, IMO, it's never been this bad. And that says a lot. This team has been a laughing stock over the past 15 seasons, but at least it was in our own little cocoon world. The moment we drafted Johnny, we put ourselves into the national spotlight, and ended up looking like fools. I cannot and will not support that stupidity. Drafting Johnny was plain stupid for this organization. We were not even remotely prepared for any of the chaos that came with him. This kid managed to embarrass the Browns. Let that sink in for a moment. We needed no help in being an embarrassment, but we sure got some. We went from being an afterthought embarrassment around the league, to a very public joke on a national level. Thing is, I can't blame Johnny for that. Whoever thought drafting him was a good idea is to blame. Farmer or Haslam. That's what gives me little inclination to continue supporting this organization. Separate from the FO, I love the team and coaching staff. Very tricky issue for me right now.

What I do know is that if the FO decides to compound the issue by handing Johnny the starting gig next season, I won't be watching. It's just another train wreck waiting to happen. I can't do it. I have no faith in the kid. He hasn't given me any reason at all to have any faith. He's done not one thing to prove me wrong about him. Not one. I hope his rehab was his decision and not a PR move from his agent, but I have serious doubts. As a human being, I hope the kid finds his way. I even have sympathy for him to an extent. I think there might be a bit of him losing some of the love of the game that came with all the hype. I also feel like if that's the case, the best thing for him would be to take a step back, get away from the spotlight for a while and concentrate on rebuilding that love of the game. I'm just not sure his "people" will allow that to happen. He's become a brand instead of a person to them. But before he can even start that process, he has to battle the addiction and immaturity issues.

For me, even if he does everything right, and works his tail off, gets his addictions under control, and loses the hype of Johnny Football, I'm still not convinced he's an NFL QB. Just feel like the mountain he has to climb is too steep and my patience has worn too thin. Another point to consider is that if all that happens and he becomes a mega star again, will he be able to control those same demons that has landed him here? I feel for the kid, but the Browns had no business drafting him into an organization with tenuous stability. That's no place for a kid like him to be successful. He should never have been drafted as someone's savior. A kid who most likely never held a job in his life was expected to take on probably the hardest job that exists for a pro athlete. Bad idea.

    Bingo, right there.

Do NOT trade away draft picks. We have 3 of the top 43 picks, use them on players who can jump right in and contribute now. All these trades and reaching for talent has killed any chance of progress around here. It hasn't worked.
