Josh Gordon files grievance, because....

Cut him loose. Now.

But you don't trade your best players, that's not what "winning" teams do. All of you who used virtually that exact line two years ago can suck it. If he just had off the field problems but was a pro on the field, I could have seen the project value in him...but we all knew he was fucking off on the field when the ball wasn't going his way even during his big play at the end of the previous season. That was the time to trade him. Now we literally have dick. I hope his career dies on our inactive list.

Cut him loose. Now.

nope, now you keep him to fuck with him.

We knew this was coming...
How many times has Josh been fined for being late?
Are there records of the sit-downs management has had with him about his "tardiness"?
Was his suspension about being habitually late or about denying him a year of credited service?
The NFLPA is pushing this out of their interest on Josh's behalf... and rightfully so. If they allow this one-game suspension to stand, then precedent is set for teams to use suspensions to deny a player an accrued season.

Unions suck.

As much as I hate to see JG get away with this, the union is right to head this off at the pass by defending him. If they didn't have proper documented sit downs counseling his bad behavior, then they f'd up and fell asleep in Management 101 (that actually is my undergrad degree).

You might be right but my problem is JG knows himself whether this is true or not. If it is true he again does not take responsibility. Even if the Browns did not document it (and they should have) why doesn't he own up to it if it is true?

If what's true? That he was late? That does not matter.
What matters is whether management's dissatisfaction with any performance shortfall was communicated and documented. As AG said it's 101...
- Have an initial talk and document you had the talk (short note in calendar will do).
- Have a follow up if needed and hand note the talk's subject matter, date and sign.
- Need a third? Time to get full on formal. Warning letter to employee file detailing issue, potential future steps, etc. May offoically put employee on "probation".
- Fourth time? Suspension...

I'd tend to agree with die hard but what's your reasoning for the difference? If what's true? That he was late? That does not matter.

Ithere language in the actual contract that specifies a player must be warned a certain number of times before he is punished for breaking the rules?

I see a pattern with JG of not taking responsibility for his actions. Even with the letter he wrote (which was well written) you can see him constantly having an excuse or reason for messing up. He blamed his failed marijuana drug screen on second hand smoke. The THC levels are set high enough on these tests to rule it out. He said he slipped up one time and drank on the plane and that is possible but highly unlikely he would get caught the very first time. In this situation he knows if he was late or not but sees an opportunity to win out on a mistake by the Browns by not documenting his tardiness. He will win because you have to be able to prove the tardiness but this is just another reason I don't want him on the team regardless of his talent on the field. I knew a counselor if the meeting started at 9:00 AM he would lock the door and start the meeting at 9 sharp and if you were even just late by a minute or two it didn't matter. I thought he might be too strict at the time but maybe that was the right way?

No idea about the CBA requirements, if any, Steve.
I worked in a non-union facility in a right-to-work state my entire career. The steps I listed were roughly what was required of us to build a defensible position for the lawsuit that followed almost every termination due to a pattern of behavior such as habitually late arrival or absenteeism.
Acute offenses such as failing a drug test, reporting for work drunk or fighting at work had their own short cut to unemployment.

Cut him loose. Now.
The act of suspending him shows that they clearly do not want to do that. By suspending him that one game they get to keep his rights for another whole year before he can become a Free Agent.

The Players Union Is filing a grievance in part because this delays his free agency. It's clear to me he thinks he deserves to play for a championship team which is another example of entitlement. He hasn't even stayed on the field for a full year. Seriously this guy...

hate unions BUT some of my best friends are in them and i just want to tell them to STFU.....sorta like the browns should do to gordon.
and then cut his ass.
