The Browns Board

  • One team deflates footballs and that was a scandal until they won the SB then that story faded off the headlines. It all comes down to winning. Yeah you don't want to give the media the stories but the story I posted about Pettine and Gilbert's personal issues is a non story at best. So in that respect it is just going to happen continually until the team starts winning on a regular basis. I think with Pettine he will get the job done in 3 years. That is the goal I would like to see anyway.

  • If Pet gets a QB, we'll win. I don't see Johnny ever being that QB, regardless of how he comes out of rehab, so the FO has to pull a rabbit out of the hat.

  • For the first time in ever I don't even care what the browns do or don't do in free agency. I don't care who they put on the field. I don't care who they draft. I'm not sure I can bear spending 16 weeks in my favorite time of the year sitting in front of the television watching this train wreck. They have to win me back now and not on draft day or in press conferences. On the field.

    ...

    ...

    Thank god for the buckeyes.

The vibe of your post is totally counter of your avatar. The FO has been too impatient with the coaching staff. With as many HC's and the Browns have had since their re-entry, it is ridiculous. How many starting QB's? Totally nuts. The league stacked the deck against the expansion Browns and Texans in '99. No way were they going to win with the picks they were given, not like when Carolina came in. The Texans drafted wisely and they had 3 straight playoff appearances and then in 2013 they won their first 2 and lost 14 straight.

I say draft Lael Collins(OT) and a wide out in the first round, defensive lineman in the second and go from there.

Round peg in a square hole is how they're trying to make Johnny fit and it won't work.

Hoyer is scared. Ever since the injury, kaput, finis, frightened. Before that, Weeden - Big 12 - no competition and no good. I loved it last year when he came in for Romo and totally threw the ball away. Bryant comes up to him making the crazy gesture.

McCoy - Alabama ruined him in the national championship game. I also don't think any QB who is worth his salt would let himself be pulled from a game that important. (Sit down son you have millions at stake coming from the morons in Cleveland who have no idea on how to evaluate talent).

I'd throw Johnny out there in the deep end of the pool and see if he can swim or not. He was great in college.

Hell maybe he could return kicks and punts!

Another scandal 😡 . Pettine said about Justin Gilbert “I don’t want to get into it,” Pettine said. “It’s very personal.”

This stuff cannot possibly be going on with other NFL teams where every word gets twisted and magnified ridiculously out of proportion.

Really, the coach saying the issues with Gilbert is personal is that bad??

Consider the slant from that article- it's BSPN- the National Enquirer of sensationalism.

One path I see is upgrading the defense which is very doable to where the Browns can have one of the better defenses. If the Browns can keep the score down then hope you have enough offense to win. I don't think the Browns will win any shoot out games. It's frustrating to see a team with talent not have the key player in place but I don't see it as hopeless by any means. Play to your strengths which should be our defense.

So would you take a DL and ILB as the first two?

I think there are several decent WR that will still be available in the 3rd & 4th rounds. The key will be whether a decent OT is still there in the 3rd. Do we trade up after our 2nd pick to get one?

This is where you guys know more than me. I see the needs. Upgrade the defense for sure. Wide receiver for sure. Having more depth on the O line wouldn't hurt, we saw that when Mack went out. I speak as just a fan for almost 50 years. I think we need Hoyer this year but I'm not factoring in things like salary. There may be a veteran QB out there but I lean towards Hoyer probably because I saw what he can do when we went 6-3 and I think one of the reasons he stumbled the second part of the season was our running game dropped off about the time Mack got injured.

Bad? No... but there were better statements, e.g., focusing on how he feels about Gilbert having a better 2015 or at minimum stopping after "I don't want to get into it." Once he said "personal", folks want to know. The statement ended up being catnip...

Of the many potential issues Hoyer had, being scared was not on the list.

No, because there is not ILB worth the #19. But if the list is as thin at 19 as it might be, then a trade down (or two) might result in ILB value when our second pick finally happens.

Denzel Perryman, the best run stopper in the draft is worth the 19th pick

Kirksey will be fine in the role of ILB, he really started blossoming by the last 5 games. With Dansby coming back, I don't understand how the glaring needs of DL, OL, & WR are superseded by that of a run-stopper's talent.

No, we can still use a LB....at least for depth if not for the future. Dansby is up there.

at #19? I think we have more glaring needs, tbh.

If Perryman fell in the 2nd round, different story.

  • If the top 3 DL's (Williams, Brown, Shelton) are gone and Collins or Peat is there at #12, I take either one. Collins looked very good at the combine today, just as he did in the senior bowl. But I doubt he will still be there.

  • Stop talking about the draft. This thread is to illustrate how I don't care who we draft until they start winning.

  • I've been reading these threads for awhile. Not excited about this years draft.

Just not seeing what you are in Collins, Ag...

On the other hand Peat has the weirdest body I think I've ever seen. Hard to believe he can move like he does with that much mass from the waist down. I think his picture is now in the dictionary next to "low center of gravity".

Jake Fisher looked fantastic. Moved every bit as well as I thought he would and appeared bulkier. He helped himself immensely.

And ya gotta love Ali "Where-the-fuck-is-Hobart" Marpet... no one helped himself more...

Don't look now, but your cart is in front of your horse...

  • No its not. Because just about everyone we've drafted in 15 years is a bum. The draft means nothing until those players can produce

  • time to get off the herron. all it does is bring everybody down.

  • You're free to not read this thread and make up some new fantasy land thread where the browns organization isn't completely lost in the woods
