Source: the #49ers are bracing themselves for the loss of LB Patrick Willis. Expecting him to retire.

Damn, Walter... Did you just come off of a twitter suspension?

Dude must be hurting bad to retire at 30. He was awesome to watch. After a year of rest I bet he comes back. He's borderline HOF if he doesn't play again. Be patient and bring him in next year.

something tells me he knows his time is up...something isn't "going away". So he knows when a football player can't get rid of a nagging injury it's a sign he's done. I dunno. Yeah you'd think at 30 he'd still have a few years left, I mean look at Dansby.

The 49ers were going to pay him 8.5 million this year and 9.5 million in 2016. What makes you think he wants to play in Cleveland after playing in three consecutive NFC championships between 2011 and 2013?

If that dude comes back to play football, it won't be for Cleveland

                Good for him...

Willis played at a very high, very violent level for years. Walking away rich and relatively healthy is a good choice.

He was on his way to the HOF, I wonder how much this hurts his chances of getting there...

It would help if he had a longer career. He has only played what? like 7 seasons? If he played at least 2 more at his current level he could be a shoe in. He would be in Derrick Brooks territory. But only 7 years. That short of a career is OK is you are Gale Sayers, but a LB?

Maybe it really is that bad in SF....all the rats want to jump ship.

Eight seasons, Gip. Hurt much of his 8th though...

In his first seven he made the Pro-bowl and with Ray Ray was widely considered to be the best at his position.

Sayers is the eye-test precedent to be sure. Really only played five seasons and only reached 1000 yds twice.

To my eye Willis makes the Hall, but it will be interesting to see if he does. May come down to fellow retirees after the 2014 season.

Like I said, if he plays longer he makes it....even if he doesn't play as well as before.

I think Dwight Stevenson only played 7-8 seasons at Center and got in. I think it will be harder for Willis though.
