Revis to the Browns? No back to JETS
-
While I don't think it will happen at all because of the front offices own admission into not sinking too much into FA... - if this happened, pairing Haden & Revis plus the potential of getting Shelton?
Game over for the AFCN offenses. You won't run or throw on this team.
-
When did he learn to play QB?

It's highly unlikely that it would happen.
HOWEVER...I can't say that I'm not fantasizing over a defensive backfield of Haden, Revis, Whitner, Gipson and (hopefully) a much improved Gilbert.

-
Plus Kwaun Williams. Secondary would be stacked
-
I don't think we'll be a serious contender to land him.
-
Haden - Revis - Gilbert - K.Williams - Gipson - Whitner...
... and we still couldn't stop the run... what a waste...
-
I wouldn't pay Revis.
I would see if Stevie Johnson has anything left in the tank.. he was good in Buffalo and was just cut by SF.

Stevie Johnson? Nope.
Haden and Revis. Only thing that would make me happy if we didn't resign Skrine.

The Patriots give him a better chance to win and the Jets can offer him a massive deal thanks to the cap space they carved out by not making big bids for Revis or too many other players last offseason.
I'm sorry, but the Browns have about as much or more cap space as the Jets, no?
In fact, in checking, the Browns have more cap space:

So that is one bogus argument.
-
Remember when the Eagles had Nnamdi Asomougha, Asante Samuel, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and people were claiming they were going to have the most dominant secondary ever? They went 8-8 year one and 4-12 year two.
Yes, it would be really nice to add Revis, but I wouldn't throw a ton of money at him if we can't find a way to stop the run and fix our D-line.

But the Jets fit the author's narrative, no? Division rivals battling for the top player in FA...

The difference is that the Jets HAVE to spend the money while we do not.
We've reached the 89% floor, they have not. We could conceivably stand pat.

The problem with Revis is he's clearly about the money, has been his whole career. He's a great player, there's no doubt about it but as of this moment secondary is easily the best overall position we field talent wise. Desir, Gilbert, Williams all showed promise last year and that's not even assuming we re-sign Skrine as the #2.
Point is, if we're going to make a 'big money' FA splash I'd much rather it be at another position of need like DL, LB or WR.
-
I'd LOVE to have Revis on this team. That being said, for that kind of money...there might be other needs to fill first such as OLB'er and DL. If we lose Sheard, which it looks like we will....we might want to make offers to guys like Houston. He might want a lot too, but other guys like Orakpo and Worilds might be solid additions at very reasonable prices.
-
I agree with most, Revis would be awesome to have, but there are so many other needs with that money. The defense would be great at stopping the pass, but nobody would have to pass with the run D they had last year. Adding Revis would be like nailing the door shut against the pass, but it still leaves the window next to it wide open for the run...

Revis 5 years ago? Yeah Revis at nearly 30 years old expecting a giant payday? Nahh
We're good at CB, and I haven't lost faith in Gilbert to becoming a pro bowler just yet.

5 years ago?.....he's 29 and at his peak right now.....easily one of the top few CB's in the league.....5 years ago he was just finding his game....

Having two "great" corners typically exposes a weakness in one or both of their games.
Look when Asomugha/Hall teamed up. Patrick Peterson looked worse when Cromartie arrived. Asomugha/Samuel.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have Revis but he is going to cost a lot and the payout/cost benefit analysis may not be very high as we already have a very good secondary
