Urban Meyer extended to 2020

  • Honestly, I'll be amazed if he sticks around through 2020. Basically for similar reasons you think Harbaugh will bounce. He said at one point ND was his dream school, I wonder if he'll try to win there too. He'd be a legend then. Or maybe everything will start to go south like it did at UF (talent depleting, Tebow leaving, losing control off of the field, headaches). 5 more seasons seems like it would be on the high end, but who knows. With his past trajectory, being an OSU lifer doesn't seem like it would happen. But getting that many years out of him would be fantastic.

This is the point where you respond to a reasonable post from a Michigan fan with OSU troll nonsense and look like pathetic assholes. Go ahead, do your thing...

He isn't leaving OSU for 6.5 million a year to go to Notre Dame

In 2020 he'll be 55 - enough time left to make a decent run with ND maybe, after doing as much as he can with OSU (multiple championships)?

  • Jim harbaugh hasn't stayed anywhere longer than what three, four years? Just so we're being realistic.

Idiotic statements are made on here all of the time (90% of political board, your comments on academics, etc). Troll comments and attempts at serious comments all blur together. If someone has so little joy in their life that they need my responses to feel good, then I guess I'll have to live with that.

You're a michigan fan in a sea of osu fans and you don't expect people to take it to you? That's a little naive.

I never said I don't expect it. I said i guess i need to do a better job distinguishing between troll comments and sincere comments that are idiotic. Some posters on here make that difficult

    He'd be a cfb god.

Not even the dirty stuff at UF (or potentially anywhere else) could probably change that

I never said that was a guarantee. I also don't think he'd really care amount the money at that point.

A lot of the reasons for why some here are so sure Harbaugh will bounce, can be equally applied to Meyer...

The biggest reason Harbaugh will leave is the NFL. He will not be able to stay away.

Meyer doesn't have that. He has never coached in the NFL.

How long do you think Meyer will be at OSU, and what do you think he'll be doing after?

I think he will be here at the minimun 10 years.

And when he retires, he will be sitting back counting his 6-10 rings

    10 years from now!?

    6-10 rings!?

    Ok...

    Haha, I realize that...

I'll have whatever you guys are smoking. You and early Miami Lebron. "not 1, not 2. Not 3, not 4..."

  • Harbaugh will still have 0 rings.

  • Michigan, LOL.

  • When Ohio,State hired Myer everyone in Tampa went on a hate binge. Not me, my Dad went there, I went there, and Urban is worth the money.

Ohio State coach Urban Meyer's new salary of $6.5 million is more than all but seven NFL coaches earn.

I wonder if that will affect his budget for assistant coaches. One of the reasons Harbaugh volunteered to take less (he was offered slightly higher than this $6.5m I think) was to have more money bringing in top level assistants.

I can't think of the last major hire where this wasn't said. Call me when a coach doesn't ask for a raise or extension for this purpose. Sumlin said this when he was hired (and he was hired very cheaply), then reamed us for $5M in only his second season. THEN made us go drop $1.8 just on a DC to cover up his failure.

  • Sucks for you.

We have some very experienced, highly sought after assistants. Many with NFL experience. If they want the money, give it to them. Harbaugh is a good guy for taking less. If he wants more down the road, give it to him. He's easily worth it.

We're Michigan for Christ's sake. We have the money.
