I don't quite know what I saw. It could have been the Tooth Fairy.

yeah I don't understand the Tebow "hate" either.

Many athletes have been known to give credit and praise to God on the field, and off in their interviews...

..so why is Tebow hated more than the rest?

Because when he does it, he means it.

I think it came more from the time in college when he went overboard with it. During that rookie written test at the combine he tried to get everyone to join him in prayer and people were basically like do it yourself if you want but stfu and let us concentrate. I understand that sentiment, lot's of people would have been annoyed if they were about to take a test that could "literally" cost them millions of dollars. He's calmed down though with the public attention seeking that was what, imo, got him the acrimony.

... lol. Where do you want to go with this Cal? Evolution is a lie? The Earth IS 6,000 years old? What?

Well, if he says its 6000 years old, and he is a brain surgeon, I believe him.

Conservative brain surgeon says Earth is 6000 years old --- "sure"

Climatologist talks about climate change... --- "Screw the 'experts' and their liberal elitist education!"

  • I don't see why it is so tough for some to figure that God could have

created the heavens and the earth from anciet rocks, etc,

that already existed, that were already millions of years old.

Wait... so god was here, then he poofed rocks into existence that were already super old, then he put those rocks together to make Earth? Then he poofed all the animals, plants, etc on to it?

  • "some" <> woody

  • I'm surprised Woodpecker hasn't turned this subject gay yet.

Why are atheists always described as 'bitter' round here?

Just because many of the more vocal ones are so angry that someone else might find peace in a spiritual world that can't be proven by science. Look at the Tim Tebow thread on the Browns board. This kid has done nothing to upset anyone and yet half those respondingare positively furious at him.

For the record there are lots of people who are shitty and nasty to others for no reason. The bitter atheists are among them.

I'd love to hear how "knowledge" of the earth's true age -since lack thereof appears to be Tim's & Ben's fatal flaw- affects and/or improves your day to day.

Granted, I don't know you, but in one corner I see evidence of a surgeon and an athlete giving a lot of their energy and resources to improving others lives, and in the other corner I see someone that "harrumphs" on a message board anytime religion or Christianity is mentioned.

Totally less reasonable than a fish leaping out of the ocean and saying "fuck it, I'm growing legs today!"

It's not about that one specific piece of information - I'm sure you know the difference between knowledge and wisdom.

It's indicative of a greater overarching reticence to accept things that can be scientifically proven, like the age of the earth (within some parameters, of course, models vary on the precise age, but the ballpark is 4.5 - 4.7 billion years). We can objectively prove that the 'young earth' theory is incorrect, yet Dr Carson refuses to accept that, because it contradicts what he believes, based on his holy book. That is a major failing, in my opinion, of someone looking to run for office.

The attitude of christianity in general seems to be that the bible holds all of the answers about everything in the universe; someone with this attitude is presumably less likely to place a high emphasis on research regarding the world around us, which is a big issue for me and a lot of other people.

Tim Tebow? I could give a fuck what he believes. I just don't think his ability justifies the inevitable media frenzy. The main points being raised are 'his QBR is as good as QBs X, y & Z but he's not given a chance when they are' - yet, how much media attention is paid to Thad Lewis? Maybe three lines on the day he signed. His job is to help install the new offence by throwing to third stringers, not bring in a butt-load more reporters.

  • I have always tried to take things to the bottom line even in my walk as a Christian. This is why I don't get hung up on arguing points of the bible such as the age of the earth. The bottom line is this. Jesus is either who He said He was or He wasn't. I believe Him. The oldest book in the bible is the book of Job that pre-dates Genesis by hundreds of years. The whole reason for the bible is found in Job. Job was a good, righteous man but as he was dying he knew he was not prepared to face God, he was burdened with guilt and sin. He says he knows there is absolutely nothing he could have done or ever have done to make himself right with God. Job said it was hopeless because he needed a mediator, one who had equal standing with both God and man to bridge the gap. The whole message of the bible is that mankind needs a mediator and that is the why of Jesus' coming, to bridge that gap:

    Job Chapter 9

I know that You will not hold me innocent.
    If I am condemned,
Why then do I labor in vain?
If I wash myself with snow water,
And cleanse my hands with soap,
Yet You will plunge me into the pit,
And my own clothes will abhor me.
β€œFor He is not a man, as I am,
    That I may answer Him,
And that we should go to court together.
Nor is there any mediator between us,
Who may lay his hand on us both.

1 Timothy 2:5 New International Version

For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus,

for some reason I found that insanely amusing. Can I get a bah humbug now? lmfao

  • If that kind of deathbed comforting makes anyone feel better, then absolutely, more power to them, no problems with that. I know most people would be comforted by the thought that there's something after life, some place we and our loved ones go to.

I'm not entirely sure how it's related to what we talking about with competent reasoning skills, apart from the fact that if you look at only what we can observe, there's no evidence for any kind of after life.

Believing that the earth is only 6k yrs, old is almost as delusional as believing 'experts' always get it right.

Yeah, just go with that again.

Ignorance can be a non-derogatory term, and I'm sure that's they way you meant it (riiiight)...most people are ignorant of the laws of physics or nuclear engineering for example.

Of course ignorance can be bliss...your mom is happy because she thinks all the money you make comes from a legitimate job. 😁

Oh boy! We've reached the 'personal attacks for no reason' part of the conversation. I'd join in, but it's petty, immature and betrays a lack of ability to communicate on that actual subject. Oh, damn, guess I failed at not joining in.

Most people have a working understanding of physics, on the big things like gravity, force/drag/friction etc. though not on the actual mathematics of it, of course. That's a different type of ignorance. Example:

"We know the earth is really old, I don't know exactly how old, and it doesn't bother me, but I'm sure some people know it and it's important to them" - harmless ignorance

"Nobody knows how old the earth is, we can't be sure, and the bible says 6000 years, so I'm going to go with that" - bad ignorance.

No, I don't think so. I think he's aware that there have been ice ages and global warming had to have taken place.

...warming such as the Medieval Warm Period when Greenland was a Viking tourist attraction lol.

That's why they called it Greenland.

Lighten up...I added a smiley. You OK now?

So how exactly does "bad ignorance" affect people like you and Woody other than being annoyed by it?
