Shelton negatives...?
-
Everyone seems agreed on him at 12 so we've heard all the positives but what are, if any, the negatives on him that might make our FO pass on him?
His weight seems to be the main cause of any doubt from what I have read
-
He's fat. He ran like a 5.7 40 time......but that stat for a D Lineman may be irrelevent. I saw a show last night with Gruden and he said every time he watched Sheldon that he was very quick at getting to the perimeter.
He loved Shelton....but he hated Arik Armstead.
-
I also heard Greg Cossell say that 40 time is irrelevant, he has very quick light feet over a short distance.
-
If Shelton has to chase someone for 40 yards, they're scoring.

WEAKNESSES
Despite girth and leverage potential, can be a little inconsistent at getting push off snap. Dominates lesser centers but doesn't seem to look nearly as dominant against more talented centers. Will quit on a play when he's blocked. Produced eye-catching sack numbers for his position in 2014, but much of it was against lesser competition. Must work to keep weight in check.

WEAKNESSES: Not the pass rusher that his statistics indicate, showing little more than a standard bull-rush. Rarely incorporates spins or even swim moves into his repertoire.
Pad level rises as he tires and he can get knocked off the line of scrimmage when double-teamers coordinate their efforts and don't allow Shelton to split them. Needs to show greater awareness of cut blocks.
Tackle numbers are inflated by his hustling in pursuit. Weight needs to be held in check.

Most of those "weaknesses" seem to be against the pass. But the Browns need him primarily as a run stuffer.

"Will quit on a play when he's blocked. "
Not for long if Dansby/Whitner catch him doing it.
