Remember the Coop

The Browns Board
6 6 691
  • Depending on where you check his measurables, he's about 10lbs bigger than Winn when Billy was drafted. Cooper has an elite first step and burst. He tends to come out of his stance a bit high and uses that initial burst to win with speed and power getting but gets bodied into the lineman a bit much. However on other player he uses his hands very well, its all about consistency. In the NFL he'll need to perfect working on technique and leverage but if he does that - and you combine it with that first step.... You have a potentially great big man that can routinely effect the passer and rushing lanes.

I might have to replace the player I'm most excited about from Duke to Coop.

edit: Let me say that I think this kid has the ability to play the 5tech very well given time. He has the ability to beat you with speed inside and out, power inside and out. I would be very upset if the coaching staff asks him to put on additional weight.

  • Maybe even drop a few pounds...

Against Stanford he consistently gets position on O-lineman in pass rush and can't convert what should be leverage with a swim or rip. With another half step and a little arm technique he be a lot more dangerous.

    Play recognition looks good.

Three 2014 game tapes... including Stanford and Oregon.

  • Some people think this guy is in the wrong system with us.

"At 6’3” with 31 1/2” arms, Cooper does not have the length typically required to be a full-time, two-gapping defensive end in a 3-4 scheme, like that which the Browns run."

  • Not strictly the 3-4...they also play a hybrid defense.

...and they do it like 90% of the time.....
