The unions in L.A. negotiated to institute a higher minimum wage but are now balking and, of course, wanting preferential treatment.

The website advocates this, per it's "about page."

FEE’s mission is to inspire, educate and connect future leaders with the economic, ethical and legal principles of a free society.

For young minds interested in an introduction to free market economics and its foundations in the broader philosophy of individual liberty, FEE is the best source for inspiring content, programs and community.

So I ask, is a union not allowed to follow this/these principal(s)? Or does this only apply to future leaders?

Yes, changing wage laws to only then try to exclude yourself from those laws is definitely a tenet of a free market.

  • THERE'S BOB AGAIN !!!

So, tell me, Union Bob, about how Reagan hurt your family. I really wanted to know

what that was all about. Your immediate family?

Or your fellow brothers in unions everywhere kind of "family"

    What?

  • Union leaders...one of the most distrusted and sleaziest professions ever.

  • I guess Bob thinks the unions and union leaders are his family or something. He never

did answer my question about that. Some unions are scum.

    Hi Cal.

Yes, my immediate family, and no, I'm not going into details. I had actually asked you to disregard that statement if you recall (I don't even know which thread it was in, or I'd post/paste it Cal).

There's a few buzzwords out there that yank our chains on this forum. For me, it's obviously union-bashing. Perhaps for you, and a few others, it's just the word or thoughts of unions in general in the workplace. I don't post a lot of comments in general, I'm mainly a football fan who happens to be pro-union. I visit here because I somehow like to see what folks are thinking; it's almost like reading the editorial page (for me anyway).

So I was president of my local for over 15 years. Stuart has me and my kind as one of the most sleaziest and distrusted ever. Assumptions aren't really cool....hell, I know just a few Steeler fans that I actually respect and tolerate.

Have unions crossed the line at times? Sure they have, I've never denied that.

Stuart and his "kind" are rote brained regurgitating monkeys who have an internal need to categorize everything in broad segments so as to make their small little minds feel better. Disregard him. I honestly do wish you would tell your story about the Reagan years and what you dealt with, I think it would be interesting insight.

  • Reagan. The best president ever if you were in the military. He raised our pay and gave us equipment the peanut farmer had taken away. God bless Reagan.

  • Unions served a vital purpose in the development of the industrial workplace but are an antiquated obstacle in most professions these days.

Hi, Bob ! I appreciate the clarification. None of us need details. Bigger than a breadbox? Has to do with the

air traffic controller thing? Just wondering, basically.

Bob, understand that for all my personal bashing of unions in general, and like the huge unions like the AFL-CIO,

and of course, SEIU, they suck scum off the belly of snails on the bottom of the ocean.

But there are great unions that do what they are supposed to do. If I worked in a "right to work state" and I worked for

a company with a great union... I'd join the union no problem. But the head of the AFL-CIO is a socialist beeach.

I just think that a union that takes political stands, must allow it's members to quit being members, or allow

employees to NOT be required to join the union.

Unions helped build this country in a huge way. Factory workers, etc etc etc, got fair treatment and fair to very good

wages and working conditions - often ONLY because of unions. Millions of families lived in nice homes and had great

lives because the parents did well because of decent wages and all.

But some unions have gone off the deep end, gone corrupt, and the union bosses have every reason to

pick fights for the sole reason of perpetuating their jobs. Some unions have gone violent as well as some

companies. The coal mine companies is a great read, I just forget the name of the book.

I'm guessing you were a great union pres, Bob - none of my bashing should make you think I'm bashing the good unions

out there. I don't remember you asking me to ignore that bit about Reagan. But it's kinda a low blow to say "so and so hurt

my family"....then not explain even in general terms about why. It comes off like a dishonest slur against that president.

Which btw, I was wondering - did your union take stands in presidential elections, and was the president

    you supported... a republican?

  • It is easy to push Cals buttons.

Cal! That donkey wasn't a magic Jesus donkey! It was just a donkey!

For the most part I get along fine with the union in my plant. There are a lot of instances though where we'd be better off without the current union practice.

    A. You only think you do, woodypeckerhead.

    B. You just changed the subject, AGAIN, to have something smart ass to say. You are a loser on this board.

    C. i said it before - I was ASKED why I understood about God's existence, and in that discussion, I explained

a very true story. Ever since you found out about it, you have ridiculed it, brought it up out of the blue every once

in a while. Ridicule is your only weapon against Christian beliefs, and most other subjects on this board. You

are really, really ignorant. Rarely, maybe once, you actually had something genuine to say.

    D. Having said that, you are a woodpecker - a stupid woodpecker that keeps beating it's beak into a metal pole,

never realizing that it doesn't have bark.

    E. And, I was correct again, you just....can't......leave.....people alone when you disagree with them. your little smart-ass birdbrain woodypeckerhead comments stink up this board. Pathetic.

    F. This is your grade on the board. Here's your sign.

  • cal, why are you unable to properly quote someone? I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that perhaps your browser and this website aren't on speaking terms, cause properly quoting someone is as simple as pressing the "quote" button under their post.

  • Thanks for proving my point buddy

Quite able, cleveage - it's just that I prefer my way, where I can only include the sentence I want to directly refer to.

But thank you for proving that liberals can't stand for anyone else to think or do things differently.

Why are you unable to quit bitching about everything? Afraid your little coattail woodpecker will

    leave you or what?

  • I love how every super right wing poster on here can be lock step on every issue. But if two posters agree in disagreeing with you on something, its time for the insults. Pretty pathetic.

Why aren't you ever able to capitalize the first word in your first sentence ya whiny bitch?
