The problem with the books is they're not finished. Martin has given HBO the green light to move in their own direction. I assume the end game will be the same. Hbo has apparently cut a lot of extroneous characters including but not limited to young griff and zombie cat. And if you have not seen this season...well this week's episode was wild.

As I understand it, they have had plot lines in the show that occurred after the point where the books have stopped. Perhaps Martin will actually be incorporating some of those plot lines into his books. I know that the next book should be coming out next year....maybe in fact he gave the show's producers authority to dramatize portions of his new book for the show even though they have not yet come out in print.
At least, I hope that is what happens some.

I think Roose kind of hopes he gets himself killed raiding Stannis' camp with '20 good men' - which would be lovely, but not a fittingly horrendous death for someone so evil.

I found last night's disappointing. Sure I already knew about jon snow but I felt Stennis was just a waste.

haven't read the books so the jon snow thing at the end really pissed me off. now i wish the night's watch nothing but doom especially the friggin kid who was supposed to be his protege'. dragon queenβ¦... looks as though it will be a long train ride for her. can't stand cersei (how about the rocking bod though?) but i'm pulling for the giant guard to start rippin nun's heads off.

Even though he's officially announced he's left the show, as have HBO. Maybe he's taking a year out like Bran, or maybe they filmed a load of sneaky scenes for next year while filming season 5?
Speaking of Bran, I hope he comes back and does something useful, like throwing magic grenades...

I'd imagine that the incredible amount of money had something to do with this.

Books. I've heard he's already given the people at HBO license to go where they want with the story line, which tells me there's nothing new forthcoming and not much interest in writing it.
