Jonathan Paul Manziel

I felt bad for him. He is keeping out of the clubs and goes to a wrestling event and gets called out in a way (Johnny idiot face) the "rassler" didn't do with LBJ. I see no problem with JM going to baseball, basketball and wrestling events. The last time I went to see some rassling was at our county fair back in the 90's and took my son. I imagine the script never changes, the evil bad rassler totally insults the home crowd and then when he gets beat in the ring by another "good" rassler the hometwown fans go wild.
The only thing I would fault Manziel for is if this part was scripted and he knew he was going to get called out. He should have told them no thanks. If he goes to these events he does not need to be the center of attention.

Im sure it was all in fun and, like you said, just part of that wrestlers schtick and entertainment for the masses......dont see anything to worry about here......

I agree Mudfly but wish with the the contrived insult would have been on the lines of something else as part of the schtick. Poor decision making has gotten Manziel into trouble and as he tries to break free from his past being called an idiot in front of thousands (probably millions more when the media runs with the story) is not the publicity that will help him.

Nothing to worry about besides the fact that from this point forward until he proves otherwise he will be known as JIF.
I see burnt toast jokes just around the corner....

NFL Network's Aditi Kinkhabwala covered the Browns' practice today and was asked "if there is any way Johnny could beat out McCown and be the starter on opening day" and she said:
"MCown would have to fall flat on his face, trip, or break every single bone in his body. Josh McCown looked phenomenal today, he is repeatedly completing long passes, this is clearly his team, guys respond to him."
"Johnny Manziel in one 11 on 11 series, I saw him fumble the snap 3 times. He's still not completing passes, he's still not looking particularly comfortable....... It's not happening, any time soon. I'm sorry, it's just not."
seems like being called idiot face is the least of his probs. -
Well, we finally heard from Johnny for the first time since last December....
There were really no surprises....and also no disclosures.
Just a lot of the exact same talk we've been hearing....working hard, keeping low, etc...
I will say he sounded pretty resolute and firm that his private life is private...he wont discuss it....and he's tired of it being such a distraction....and is firm that he is doing everything in his power just to be a good teammate....learn to be a QB.....and eliminate the type of negativity he has brought to the organization...
Sounds like he likes McCown too.....a lot less tension in the room with Josh and the lack of an open competition.....compared to last year, the pressures off, so to speak.
One revelation????.......he has retired the money sign and we will NOT see it in the future....HA!

We will see how it translates to the field.

I don't think it's the last we see of it - every time he gets sacked...

Can't get sacked on the bench.
gotta point there....

Here's at least part of his talk today....

First time since December, and hopefully last time until late August

No we wont, because he wont see the field.
Could be right...i'm not convinced that McCown is the answer to us having a great season. Maybe he will be. I think the Johnny Manziel from A&M gives us the best chance to win. Not sure if we'll ever see that guy though.

Just a little side note. Texas A&M's other Heisman winner and one time Cleveland Browns assistant coach, John David Crow, passed away Wed. night at age 79. He was a 4 time Pro bowler and in the age of Jim Brown actually had two 1000 yard seasons as a pro halfback.

Decent read from Dallas' Tim Cowlishaw of ESPN's Around the Horn "fame" addressing the JM paradox I have mentioned on a few occasions around here...
Cowlishaw: Johnny Manziel should make lifestyle changes, but he needs to keep his cockiness

Appreciate you sharing that. Good article behind a great pov. I liked his parallel to Fran Tarkenton in many ways. Tarkenton wasn't compatible with former HC and NFL QB Norm Van Brocklin's system like he was when Bud Grant was Minnesota's HC. This type of QB requires the right understanding of what he is and how he's wired to succeed. Van Brocklin wanted to Dr Frankenstein Tarkenton into his Minnie Me. I bounce back and forth between similarities to Tarkenton and the younger version of Brett Favre. There were a lot of unknowns about Favre coming out of high school because his dad used him as a QB that rushed for over 3500 yards in his high school career. That being the case, Favre goes to So Miss than ran an offense like the Veer Option. Along the way, there was also frat boy party animal that almost cost him his life and his football career at the very least. Luck was on his side and he was granted additional chances to succeed. Favre came into a game and erased a big deficit with his arm of all things. Who knew? Not even sure his own dad knew based on the way he preferred to use Brett. I've read up on his rookie year in Atlanta, and it looked like his preference to party was beating his understanding of why Atlanta was the first team interested in drafting him. Lucky for him, GB was willing to surround him with the right people and get a support group in tact while Favre could look to his inner-strength and beat his demons. Good thing; because the vicodin addiction that came later - re-exposed his vulnerability as a human being. Surroundings can be make or break with an addictive personality so it was good to see him beat those demons. He's said a couple times he sees a lot of himself in Manziel. That has include the important cocky quality you spoke of as well as the wonderment many had about whether or not his game transfers over to the NFL level in spite of where they were drafted.
Along the same lines, do you know what I remember most about Brian Sipe? There were times even during his MVP season he had an ugly first 58 minutes he would completely erase in a 2 minute magic show at the end. Anytime we were down with only 2 minutes to go with no margin of error remaining - he got really cocky in a good way. It was almost like he reminded himself right then and there of everyone that ever told him or printed "don't even bother - you only have 13th round arm strength." That extent/level of adversity sure brought out the best in him. The frequency of late game hocus pocus gave us our first version of Kardiac Kids. It's sad the only time we see highlights of him any more was on the 1 day the wind chills were double digits below zero; and Don Cockroft's FG range in warmups was really bad into the teeth of the wind. Dan Fouts' frigid winter visit to Cincy went a lot worse in every way; but that rarely ever gets replayed.
The first impression I had of Manziel was watching what that cocky attitude could accomplish against the mind of Nick Saban, National Championship talent and Bama's home field advantage. I was tuning in primarily to see what all the hype was about and ended up totally mesmerized and intrigued for more. How many college QBs were wired to do that? That author was right on the money to bring up how well Manziel did vrs Bama both times. IMO, it's nice for Manziel to see QBs like Tarkenton and Favre in the sense that success didn't come until after there was early failure and disappointment. He's going to need the same self confidence that Tarkenton and Favre tapped to rise above what held them back. Sipe was no different in terms of where he came from to earning League MVP. These guys defined themselves through adversity. Wouldn't that really be something if Manziel did the same thing?
